Learning Styles
Introduction
Learning styles refer to an individual’s preference of learning methodologies through
which they can comprehend, absorb and retain learned content during the process of learning.
Students understand concepts different. Some student would prefer reading materials while
others would opt for a demonstration or just an audio lecture. Therefore, to ensure that students
gain as much as possible in class, it is recommended that teachers should know, understand and
implement various learning styles to accommodate the diverse forms of the learners. This
necessity comes as a result of the influence of the different learning style son the student’s
behavioral change as well as the overall achievement of the learning outcomes. It is worth noting
that tee preferred style of learning in students is dependent on the environmental experiences,
cognitive and emotional factors.
Learning styles explains why most teachers would explain a concept in class, organize a
film for the course on the same top and even arrange a field study where the teacher would
demonstrate the concepts to the learners. Through this the teacher can cover the four learning
styles stipulated by the VARK acronym which stands for visual, auditory, reading/ writing and
the kinesthetic style of learning. According to my questionnaire results, VARK categorized my
learning style as kinesthetic.
Summary of Kinesthetic Learning Style
My VARK questionnaire results illuminate that I can learn better in a combination of
aural, reading/writing, and kinesthetic styles. In the score section, the outcome included visual=
0, aural=6, read/write=3 and kinesthetic=8. To summarize my learning strategies preference, I
can learn better through practical demonstrations and guidance from experts. I would rather ask

an expert to explain a concept for me than discuss the same with my peers or colleagues. The
combination of demonstrations and quest for expert escort makes me a frequent visitor to my
trainers. Moreover, I would struggle to grasp a concept from a film because films are associated
with the aesthetic element in my life. However, I can watch a video demonstrating how to solve
a task, such as how to assemble a wardrobe, and gain maximum content because it appears a
practical lesson for me.
Kinesthetic Strategies according to VARK Model
Students with Kinesthetic learning preference learn better with real-life examples and
experiences (VARK Learn Limited, 2019). Among the presences in this model include:
Students prefer practical demonstrations before attending a theory class on the same
topic.
Learners prefer physicality in learning in that they can maximize a lesson that includes
real-life examples and practical group work that enable them convert theory into happening.
Learners in this model prefer student involvement rather than listening to the concept. A
teacher can ideally conduct a lesson by asking the students to do a practice question or answer
questions in class; in general, students prefer being part of the team.
Generally, learners in this model prefer autobiographies and documentaries because these
are real-life experiences of people and practical events.
Therefore, kinesthetic students should appreciate real case studies, use all sense, ranging
from sight, smell, touch, and hearing, watch video demonstrations more so on real-life solutions,
embrace the try and error learning and generally use hands-on skills learning approach.
Moreover, these students can further apply their learned skills to opportunities that arise in life
situations, attend exhibitions and surveys as well as field trips and interview.
