1.0 INTRODUCTION
Drug overdose is related to use of the chemicals for purpose of developing pleasurable
impact on brain. In all over the world, there are more than 190 million drug users and this issue
has been enhancing at the alarming rates among adults under age of 30. Long term damage to
body drug abuse, the drug addicts who mainly use needles are at risk of contracting the hepatitis
B and C infections and HIV. The drug abuse are psychoactive drugs which are mainly used
through people for different reasons (Brady and et. al., 2017). In regards to this, addiction is
disease that impact on behaviour and brain. Millennials are more affected from drug overdose
than the old generations.
1.1 Drug Abuse in UK
Copper Smith (2021) Stated that drug abuse is when an individual uses the illegal or legal
substances in ways a person should not. It might take care than continuous dose of the pills. The
drug overdose can be intentional and it can mainly occur when an individual takes more than
medically recommended dose. Main cause of the drug overdose is either through the accidental
overuse or intentional misuse. Millennials can ingest mistakenly incorrect medication or take
wrong dose of medication. The drug abuse occurs when a millennial use alcohol, prescription
medicine and some of the illegal substances more or in wrong manner. The substance abuse is
somehow varied from the addiction (Daly and et. al., 2018). Several people with the substance
abuse issues are quit or make changes in unhealthy behaviour. In year 2016/2017 around 1 in 12
(8.5%) adults age among 16 to 59 in the England and Wales has taken illicit drug in last year.
This level of the drug use was same to year 2015/2016 survey (8.4%) but less than decade ago
(10.1% in year 2006/2007 survey).

1.2 Influence of Drug overdose over millennials health
According to Berkeley Lovelace Jr. (2021), Increases in drug, suicide deaths and alcohol
have impacted all age groups and also communities. Its impact on the people in 20s and early 30s
has been pronounced specifically. Nationwide opioid epidemic has led to sharp enhance in death
rate for the overdose through teens and also millennials. Deaths from the drug overdoses were
from the opioids, illicit and prescription drugs for an instance heroin. Surge in the drug poisoning

deaths among the young adults and millennials reflects ease of the access to pharmaceutical
drug.
1.3 Factors that cause high use of drug among millennials
As per opinion of Mackenzie Whitesell, Annette Bachand, Jennifer Peel and Mark Brown
(2013), the family, social and the individual factors are mainly contributing to the risk for
millennials for the use of substances. There are some factors given below that cause the high
drug use among the millennials:
Family history- The drug addiction is common in some of the families and consists
genetic predisposition. If a person has blood relative like siblings and parent with drug addiction,
then they are at high risk about developing drug addiction (Ho, 2019).
Lack of family involvement- Complex family conditions or lack of bond with siblings or
parents may enhance risk addiction as can lack of the parental supervision (Smolina and et. al.,
2019).
1.4 Issues faced by millennials from drug overdose
JAMIE DUCHARME (2021) stated that there have been marked uptick in so called the
death of despair those consists alcohol, drug and suicide among the millennials. The issues faced
by millennials from drug overdose can contribute to the mental health conditions. In regards to
this, mental health is one of the primary risk factor. People with the drug addiction have one or
more health related issues which consist heart disease, cancer, mental health conditions and lung
disease.
1.5 Measures implemented to prevent millennials from drug overdose
According to Stephanie Lee Peglow and Ingrid A Binswanger (2020) Better way to prevent
addiction to drug is not to take drug. If doctor prescribes drug with potential for the addiction,
use care when using drug. The drug overdose can prevent in several ways. Better method to
remove the opportunities for the accidental or triggers overdose for the intentional overdose in
first place. If an individual uses the prescription drug, assure to use them directed through doctor.
It is necessary not to combine medications without first asking doctor if this is not safe. Person
should not mix the alcohol with the prescription drug without checking doctor first.
