Handling Emergencies in an Aged Care Setting: Legal and Ethical Requirements_1

Change noticed Major Minor How would you act
on the situation and
report it?
The client has an
itchy rash all over
their back
I would act by
inviting a physician
to come and check
on to determine the
extent of the injury
Mrs Meadows
might have
suffered (Willis,
Reynolds&
Keleher, 2012).I
would report the
occurrence to the
supervisor
immediately so that
further action can
be taken
The clients family
is on holiday
I would try to
contact a close
relative or friend
who is near and
inform them of the
situation. The
friend can provide
information which
could help in
reaching Mrs
Meadows family
There is a tap that I would act by
trying to fix the

wont stop dripping tap. If I fail in
fixing the tap,ill
call the plumber to
fix the tap.
The client falls and
cannot get up
This is a very
serious issue and
hence I will act by
calling a doctor
since this is an
emergency
situation. I would
later call the
supervisor on what
had happened so
that he can
recommend on
what else could be
done
The clients dog has
run away
This is a minor
issue. Ill therefore
act by calling my
fellow workers at
the institution and
we shall try to find
the dog in the
compound. If we
fail in this,ill
inform vet services
who will help us to
find the dog for the
client.
