INTRODUCTIONLegislation determines various rules and regulations which are developed by governmentfor all types of businesses that are operating in the countries. Whereas, ethics refers to theapplication of moral principals in which company concentrate on a group or person's behaviour.For the travel and tourism sector both term are very much necessary in order to operate businesseffectively or appropriately. But if this type of companies will not follow these ethics orlegislations than they have to face lot of errors in their business. That's why it is necessary forthem to follow all rules which is made by government in a effective manner. It is very necessaryfor all travel and tourism companies who are operating their business in different countries ofUK. So that they can easily implement their rules and ethics accordingly. The main purpose ofthis study is to follow all legal or ethics value for making good business in the travel or tourismsector. This assignment is based on legislation or ethics in travel or tourism sector which coversseveral topics like regulatory and legal framework, regulations and legislations related to thesafety and health issues, role of business ethics in travel and tourism sector and consumerprotection legislations (Frans, 2011).TASK 11.1 legal and regulatory framework of the travel and tourism sector.Legal and regulatory framework:- It is a fundamental method which containgovernmental rules and regulations which is compulsory all the companies to follow all theseslegal rules for running their business effectively and ethically in the country. Now, a daystourism sector plays a very important role in an economy and also it is a leading industry in themarket. In context to tourism sector their rules and regulations depend upon its working placewhich means all the legal formalities varies according to the country. Sources of UK law:- It has four type of principals which contains European laws,Legislation, European convention on Human rights and Common laws. All these principals areexplained as below:- Legislation:- It includes various acts which is made by the parliament who is situated inLondon. Legislation is only a body who has power to control over 4 countries, where parliamentof UK involves two houses i.e., House of Lords and House of Commons.1

Common laws:- It is unwritten law in which judges in UK follow doctrine of judicialprecedents. By implementing this, future case of decided on judgements passed previously. European convention on Human rights:- It is an international convention whichcontain human rights and political freedom in Europe. In context to travel and tourism sector, they contain various laws and regulations which aredescribed below:- Health and Safety act 2011:- In this act include various rules and regulation regardingtravel and tourism sector. In context to this, companies make legal framework in whichthey mentioned about the safety, welfare, security and health procedures of their workersat workplace. The main motive of this act is to focuses on individuals health and safetywhere they are affected by the activities of a company. Along with this, it influencesvisitors or tourist for visiting at their place without thinking about their health and safetymeasures (Gabor, Conţiu and Oltean, 2012).Development of tourism act 1969:- The motive of this act is to develop tourism sectorin an economy as well as this act aid the government to get finance from the public fundmake some provisions regarding new hotels and improvement of existing hotels in thecountry. With addition to this, both development of tourism act and Health and Safety actis established by British Tourist Authority and Tourists Boards for England, Wales andScotland. According to Thomas Cook Discovery store, they followed both the above mentioned act as ithelps their sector to operate or manage their company effectively. There are various authoritieswhich is essential for industries to follow it effectively for performing their activitiesaccordingly. Following authorities are mentioned as below:-ATOL (Air Travel Operators Licensing):- This is a civil aviation authority of UKwhere they gives protection to the individuals who are using their air transport andbuying air tickets or any tour packages. SRA (Strategic Rail Authority):- The motive of SRA is to provide direction to therailways industry of United Kingdom and also they have authority for delivering railwaysservices effectively to its customers. ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents):- This agency deals with the traveloperators and travel agents who are worked at UK in the travel and tourism sector.2
