Subject: Concerning the death penalty laws in the UAE and Australia.
Respected Sir/Madam,
I am a legal rights activist from UAE currently residing in Australia. I am writing this letter to
you to highlight my stance and viewpoint on the laws and regulations regarding capital
punishment. I have noticed a stark contrast in the law between Australia and the UAE. I am
writing to you to justify the impacts of reintroducing capital punishment in this country. I would
like to begin by stating that if I was in charge of running my country, then capital punishment
laws would be modified to make it a little less extreme.
The UAE has identified the death penalty as a legal form of punishment for a series of atrocities.
These atrocities incorporate several heinous criminal acts including treason, murder, rape,
assault, drug trafficking, corruption and in certain cases, homosexuality. If a person is identified
to be associated with any of these crimes, then s/he is subjected to death either by a firing squad,
hanging or stoning. Australia, on the other hand, has abolished all forms of capital punishment in

states. If I was in charge of my country, I would bring about a change in the death penalty system
where not all crimes performed under the law would require execution. I don’t argue against the
capital punishment laws that are in existence, however, I do believe that the current justifications
for these laws are quite extreme. Therefore, if I were the leader of my country, I would amend
the laws to fit the most violent and extreme of crimes under the jurisdiction of capital
punishment laws.
I would like to conclude by stating that if I were the one in charge of my country’s legal
structure, I would justify the existence of capital punishment in my country. That is one way of
expressing my stance that capital punishment holds justification for the moral aspect of human
rights, but should also uphold the natural order of life and death in some situations. Thus I
request you to provide me with the opportunity to publish an opinion piece in your esteemed
paper and provide me with a platform to highlight this viewpoint of mine.
