In society, elderly people are stereotyped because of the behavior they portray to the
people. They are considered tough to handle due to their habit of asking too many questions on
small things they come across and their constant nagging attitude to correct the young ones due
to their wide wisdom on most subjects irritates the youngsters as they want freedom and hates
when someone nags them consistently. The years of experiences, learning and wisdom had
turned their hair grey thus making them stubborn on many things and any kind of interference of
others with their opinions frustrates them. The behavior of elderly people might impact as my
practice as a registered nurse as it will become hard to convince them for a drug or any different
kind of prescription by doctor even if they get convinced then their questions on small things
might freak oneself. As elderly people have an eye for observation so any kind of carelessness by
a nurse could result in their complaining about the careless attitude of nurse.
The terminologies such as aged, aging, elderly and old are used with the person who has
achieved an advanced age. The word Aged is used to describe the number of years a person has
lived; it is generally not considered old and could be used with any age number (World Health
Organization, 2019a). For example, a boy aged 15 has cleared the toughest exam in the world.
The word Aging is used when a person is advancing in life or becoming older, a person might
age as he is advancing in years or a circumstance in his life might make him aged (Bernoth &
Winkler, 2017). For example, Victor is aging fast due to genetic disease he is suffering from. The
word elderly means a person who has lived up to certain age and is now at the mature part of life
for example, John, who has turned 70 this year never, misses a day in his life without jogging.
The term old means a person who is at the last stage of their life and has achieved the highest
level of maturity for example there is no old man in the town like Mr. Holmes who can still play
cards with so much precision (World Health Organization, 2019b).
