Introduction
For the past 20years, health and sustainable development has been one of the central
parameters for international development. In this, measures have been undertaken for
reducing the morbidity and mortality rates. The focus in this context was on the sub groups of
women and children. In the era of 2000, three of the eight Millenium Development Goals
catered to reduction in the child mortality rates, reduction in maternal mortality and access to
the reproductive health care and curbing the spread of the diseases like malaria, tuberculosis
and HIV/aids (Buse and Hawkes 2015). The target audience in this case was the people
hailing from low and middle income group countries. This assignment conducts a survey on
two papers relating to the sustainable development through upgradation in the standards and
quality of health practices.
Paper One
Summary
This paper looks at the Millennium Development Goals, which accompanied
resources and accountability regarding curbing the health issues of the lower and middle
income group. The efforts of the international communities are praiseworthy in terms of
developing the sustainable development goals. Evidence based practices are upholded for
enhancing the awareness of the readers regarding the proposals for political assistance
towards the acquisition of the latest technologies (Buse and Hawkes 2015). Health agendas
are one of the effective sources for effective dealing of the communicable and non-
communicable diseases like that of the pollution arising from the intense road traffic.
Abstract
Health agenda enabled the UN member states to witness radical shifts in the
challenges of coordinative and structural leadership; local support towards prevention;

effective dealing of the commercial determinants; integration of the fundamental rights into
the approaches to healthcare and improvising on the civic engagement for enhancing the
corporate social responsibility. Here, one of the main concerns is that neither internal
community nor the global health community acknowledges the shifts planned for attaining
sustainable development (Buse and Hawkes, S., 2015).
Paper Two
Summary
This article talks about the challenges encountered by the developing countries in the
process of sustainable development. The alarming situation created by these challenges have
compelled the UN government to put on their thinking caps regarding addressing the
challenges through the establishment of Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Specific
mention can be made of the sustainable development goals, which seems fruitful for the
achievement of balanced growth in the parameters of economic, social and environment
(Sarvajayakesavalu, 2015).

Millennium Development Goals has generated much confusion and debates regarding
the achievement of growth and development. Here, the demarcation between the political
instabilities and the human welfare has acted as an obstacle towards accomplishing the
objectives towards fostering development in all forms. In response to the growing concerns
towards sustainable development, the Sustainable Development Goals have been developed
(Sarvajayakesavalu, 2015).

Sustainable development goals are more fruitful in terms of attaining sustainable
development. There are concerns regarding the accomplishment of the goals and objectives.
Focus is on the capacities of the nations to adhere to the guidelines and the other essential
requirements. Mention can be made of the five priorities for sustainable development goals,
which ensures smooth functioning of the operations. In this also, there are challenges, which
obstructs the mechanisms regarding sustaining the resources for the future generation
(Sarvajayakesavalu 2015). Therefore, the policies need to be proper and flexible in terms of
maintaining the efficiency in the operations. Propositions are made in the form of device
metrics like GIS, which is effective for monitoring the operations in terms of sustainable
development goals.
Comparison
As per the arguments of Buse and Hawkes (2015), readiness of health towards the
achievement of sustainable development is judged. On the contrary, Sarvajayakesavalu
(2015) highlights the ways and means of addressing the challenges encountered by the
developed countries in the implementation of the sustainable development goals. The
parameter of both the articles is health. Sarvajayakesavalu (2015) is of the view that agenda is
a central doctrine, which adds value to the evidence based practices in terms of globalizing
the healthcare services. On the contrary, Buse and Hawkes (2015) opines that sustainable
development goals attain prime importance as compared to the millennium development
goals. This is due to the issues of data delays, lack of priorities and gaps in the
implementation process.
Evaluation
Health is one of an important parameters for prospering economically, socially and
environmentally. If the health issues prevail within the social constructs, the economic

prosperity is adversely affected. Therefore, Sarvajayakesavalu (2015) states that in order to
deal with the health issues, goals are needed for adding values and weightage in the practices
towards healthcare treatments. In this context, focus is placed on the sustainable development
goals, which are advantageous than that of the millennium development goals. The goals of
reducing morbidity and mortality rates in women and children is one of the areas towards
upgrading the economic development.
Policies are also effective in terms of catering to the needs, demands and requirements
of the patients. According to Buse and Hawkes (2015), alteration of the policies is an
initiative towards upgrading the standards and quality of the healthcare practices. Official
development assistance have been sidelined due to the emergence of the sustainable
development goals. The need of the hour is device metrics, which helps in evaluation of the
progress in terms of delivering quality treatments to the patients. Typical evidence of this lies
in the monitoring systems and machines, which assist the healthcare professionals to detect
the illness before initiating the treatment process. For this, Sarvajayakesavalu, (2015)
proposes that infrastructure needs to be upgraded through standardization of the records
regarding the health history of the patients.
Global health programs are effective for addressing the health issues. Demonstration
of the ways and means to operate the devise metrics is an effective step for tracking the
progress regarding achievement of the sustainable development goals. Periodical upgradation
of these metrics is bound to deliver quality experiences to the clients and the customers
regarding checkups. Establishing standards for the monitoring mechanisms is accounted as an
important functionality of UN Secretary General board panel members. Questions have been
proposed towards the role of the panel members in exercising the responsibilities towards
making decisions of curbing the spread of the communicable and non-communicable diseases
(Buse and Hawkes 2015).

Global polls are essential for undertaking measures towards altering the
environmental outlook. This is because it is related to the community welfare. Millennium
Ecosystem Assessment have enhanced the scope and arena of the network. The major drive
behind this is cross scale learning and coordination between the staffs regarding development
of objectives and agenda for upgrading the standards and quality of evidence based
healthcare practices. Mention can be made of the Intergovernmental Open Working Group
towards enhancing the infrastructure. Typical evidence of this lies in the database
management systems, which is effective for preserving the data regarding the histories of
health issues encountered by the patients (Sarvajayakesavalu 2015).
More manpower is needed for upgrading the equipment of GIS for catering to the
issue of infant mortality rates. Mapping data from the developing countries acts as an
obstacle. This is in terms of developing spatial coverage for the dealing with the disasters. In
the developing countries, there is a lack of ground observation networks. The expenses of
healthcare services is high in the mountain areas. The access to these services is also difficult,
which necessitates the need of developing goals towards eradicating poverty from the society.
Accumulation of the determinants of ill health is an initiative towards fostering the promotion
of the treatments (Buse and Hawkes 2015).
Lack of geospatial information infrastructure adds to the complexities regarding
access to the healthcare services in the mountainous areas. This also includes the necessity of
adequate equipment, software and policy frameworks for upgrading the standards and quality
of the practices towards the healthcare. Governmental investments in development targets
reflects the measurability in terms of accomplishing the goals of attaining sustainable
development through globalization. Shifts in the paradigm of healthcare practices can be
properly placed through standardization and verification of the data for healthcare. Collection
of the statistical reports is assistance in terms of developing appropriate healthcare agenda

promoting wellbeing of the public domain. Focus on the community development is
necessary in terms of creating a healthy ecosystem (Sarvajayakesavalu 2015).
Conclusion
Globalization is necessary in terms of enhancing the fame and glory of the healthcare
services in the developing countries. Agenda and frameworks are needed for adding value to
the evidence based practices. Failure of the millennium development goals necessitates the
need of sustainable development goals for overcoming the main issues of morbidity and
mortality issues. Community development is the main focus for achieving paradigm shifts in
healthcare from the ancient to the postmodern era. The role of the panel members of UN
secretary general is praiseworthy in terms of accumulating governmental investments towards
upgrading the standards and quality of the healthcare services. Evaluation is necessary for
detecting the feasibility, effectiveness and appropriateness of the policies and practices
towards dealing with the health issues of the patients, especially in the low and middle
income group countries.
