Jip, His Story is written by American story writer Katherine Paterson in the year
1996. This book sets in Vermont for the period of the 1850s and it emphases on a twelve-
year-old orphan child named as Jip, who is unrestricted as a toddler and misguided for a
drifter because of his skin colour. Jip works at an underprivileged farmhouse where
emotionally ill inhabitants have resided. Jip also realises that he is a child of a part-black
teenager of a fugitive slave (Lofting).
On the other hand, he has demanded the possessions of a slave retaining
farmer. Jip and Putnam Nelson run away together to the Subversive Train track. This essay
will discuss the friendship between the protagonist Jip and his friend Putnam. This essay will
also be highlighting the facts about how a toddler sentenced to a low-income family and how
he found his true friend. In this book, the narrator has portrayed a clear image of the
contemporary society of America.
From the beginning of the story, it can be seen that Deacon Avery of the
Congregational Church along with his wife has found Jip (Avi et al.). The Reverend cannot
keep Jip with them, just because he already has his thirteen children. The narrator frequently
discusses to the inhabitants or the residents of Jip’s city as God-dreading persons, but their
foremost apprehension appears to give protection to the poor and psychologically unpleasant
from flattering a duty liability.
On the other hand, Mr Flint, who supervises the poor, underprivileged farm, achieve
the most appreciation from other families or communities. However, he lives in very poor
and pathetic conditions. Apart from this, Mr and Mrs Lyman take very little care for the
inhabitants of that underprivileged farm, yet they are the wardens of that firm. Even though
his correct/ true state of mind they support Jip and give him the lesion or education by Put.

Put is an educator, associate, and friend, guidance as well as the father figure for Jip. Jip’s
instructor trashes to let him miss the mark by his teaching or training. She and Luke look
after him and help him to escape towards freedom. Mrs Wilkens is a friend to Jip awaiting for
learning that he is a black. The narrator discusses the conflict of racism along with the
superior mentality of the low-income family who has supported Jip.
Jip is miserable when Mrs Wilkens catches effort and housing in the city. He
oversights Lucy and Toddy, but emphases on his effort and his bond of true friendship with
Put. Once at a workshop, he goes everywhere to see a grown-up adult man, who is the
reflective duplicate of himself, apart from that he's light-skinned. Simultaneously, the adult
man is upright with the menacing outsider who has weird Jip in earlier even though Jip has
no hesitation with the pale man, who is the father of him, his intellects with the threat and
goes to the Stevens family.
The entire story is about Jip, who is a toddler and overwhelmes a wanderer railway
wagon and not one person ever approached him. He resides in a very underprivileged farm
possessed by Mr and Mrs Lyman. The name of his best associate is Sheldon Morse. Sheldon
is nearly thirty years of age. Nevertheless, his cognisance is of a ten years ages child. The
city’s supervisor/Administrator of the Unfortunate, Mr Flint had Jip and Sheldon to construct
a cage designed for the inward lunatic.”
The Wilkenses: Mrs Wilkens, Lucy, and Toddy came to reside by the side of the farmhouse.
Sheldon presented to labour at an excavation which caused to his expire a blast wretched
mouldy to the sentiment of the nugget afterwards. The death of Sheldon carried excessive
unhappiness to Jip.
Jip presented to look after this “lunatic” in an enclosure in the barred enclosure of a
room. Since not a single person in the city ventured to prepare or fix it. At times this
