LITERATURE SEARCH ANALYSIS ON MENTAL HEALTH

Introduction
Peoples who are suffering from a severe health issue related to mental illness tend to have
significantly poorer physical health. The principal role of the mental health nurse is to reduce
their unexpected death in the current growing population. Therefore, the primary aim of the
paper is to do a literature analysis regarding the role of the nurse and how they address the
physical health needs of the people with a mental health problem in the United Kingdom. From
the study of Kisely (2016), it was noted that care of people having severe mental illness is
generally ignored. Government of the UK has established a new strategy "NO HEALTH
WITHOUT MENTAL HEALTH" that is well documented and highlighted the fact that people
with mental issue die because of physical illness earlier than healthy peoples. The huge risk of
mortality is twice high than normal people. There are many related factors that have influenced
the health of people physically with mental illness. They are an unhealthy lifestyle, low
prevalence of physical exercise, an unhealthy diet and habit of smoking. In addition to it the type
of care given by the nurse, the problem is assessing care and negligence of proper health
screening are the other factors leading to the poor physical health of the people with mental
illness. Government of the UK significantly emphasis on reducing the rate of death and
morbidity by incorporating the role of mental health nurse by improving the procedure of
physical health check in all hospitals. Across the world, initiative is taking place to address the
physical health need. Hence, the paper described the critical analysis on the way the mental
health nurse incorporates the physical health in the care of mentally sick people. The literature
review has been done by online search with the relevant database and explained their role. The
analysis will help to improve the mental health of the people in the United Kingdom.
