LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT1
Business logistics is considered as a crucial aspect in order to deliver products in
correct time without any damage with the lowest possible cost. In the presence of current
development in technology, there has been the inception of many ideas as well as projects
about how to achieve the supply chain and business logistics related goals. Unmanned
Aircraft Vehicle (UAV) is considered as one of those systems that is used in logistics as a
tool in order to deliver the products to the end users (Valavanis & Vachtsevanos, 2015). The
pilots can control these UAVs with the help of remotes or these can fly autonomously on the
basis of programmed plans or automation system. In the recent time, a large numb of
industries are adopting the technology of UAV for the purpose of logistics. It needs to be
mentioned that these UAVs have begun to conquer the supply chain systems, but there are
still threads to tie and issues to solve (González-Jorge, Martínez-Sánchez & Bueno, 2017).
There are certain pros and cons of UAVs that the companies are needed to consider. The
following discussion shows the main pros and cons of UAV in logistics.
Precision can be considered as one of the major pros of UAV due to the fact that they
are equipped with GPS system and thus, the companies can accurately program and plan
them to the precise locations. This is majorly helpful for the companies on the savings on
transportation and distribution. UAVs lead to faster, cleaner and more efficient deliveries.
Amazon can be presented as an example in this case since the company has implemented a
delivery system for their customers in thirty minutes for the customers who reside close to the
company (Goh et al., 2017). At the same time, UAVs can be easily deployed as well as
installed within the organizations. In the presence of major advancement in control
technology, companies can operate most number of UAVs with relatively minimal
experience. Combined with the low cost of most of the models of UAVs, this contributes
towards the UAVs becoming accessible to wide range of operators. Moreover, UAVs also
have effective movement range being able in flaying lower and in correct directions that
