Introduction
The following report highlights the logistics and supply operations of Woolworths
Company, a retail food store in Australia. The researcher has highlighted all the basic facts that
are related to supply chain management. The identification of all the possible elements within
supply chain increases the scope of the project.
1. Transport Modes that are parts of the Supply Chain
Woolworths Limited is made up of some of the most recognizable and trusted brands in
retailing, that comes up with an excellent choice each and have a high quality and very low
prices. The management of Woolworths faces a huge challenge in marketing its goods in
Australia given its huge landscape and vast area. It is one of the greatest challenges of the
organization to cover the remote locations and large distances which is one of the greatest
challenges for the smooth movement of the goods especially the fragile and perishable food
items. The mentioned company owns a Victorian delivery Fleet which forms the backbone of
its transport activities. The innovation wing of the company has started using bio fuel based
transportation trucks to reduce emissions. Efficient planning has helped the company to
reduce its dependability on its own transportation system and use third party based
transportation system.
2. Different forms of Collaboration that exist in the Supply Chain
The different forms of Collaboration that exists in the supply chain are;
1. Collaborative Communication- Collaborative Communication is the transmission
process of the contract and message among the partners of the supply chain in terms

of frequency, direction, modes and influence strategy. A balanced and free end
communication involves multiple layers of communication and a strong inters firm
relationship.
2. Collaborative Execution- The collaborative execution is the process of executing the
transactions in the supply chain of the organization in a proper and collaborative

performs its activities like the centralized ones.

C. Use of Social media to streamline the supply chain has been effectively carried out by the
particular department of Woolworths and the company had made its presence felt in
social pages over the internet with its official pages in twitter and face book

Some of the most recent emerging technologies of the supply chain management are;
A. Synchronized planning can be performed in the form of collaborative forecasting and
replenishment, coordinated production and by integrating all the different information
altogether
B. Supplier Performance Management must be done regularly by Woolworths to assess the
performance of the employees over a given period of time.
C. Creation of Virtual Marketplaces which includes e-marketing, net market places where
people can buy and sell goods at a real time environment.
5. Role of Production Operations in the Supply Chain
The role of production operations in the supply chain of the mentioned company of
Australia has a great significance in its all round development. It is based on the conversion of
the inputs into the outputs by using physical resources to meet the demand of the customers and
in turn fulfilling the objective and goals of the business. Production Management has vast
differences from that of finance, marketing and personnel. Some of the activities that the
management of Woolworths lists under the production management are;

There will be a huge shift in the movement and consumption of the items that are based
in the supply chain system of the mentioned company. The shift in the strategies will involve a
much more options to select for the company and will make transportation and other factors
easier.

8. Designing and developing the new System
a. Producibility- The new system must have a better productivity so that it meets the
demand of the customers
b. Disposability- The new system must have a huge scope that helps the management to
have a lot of options for different tasks in supply chain management (Juan et al. 2014)
c. Quality- Quality must be taken care of in the new system to increase the demand of the
customers
d. Environment- One of the moist biggest concerns is taking care of the environment.
However the new system takes utmost care of the environment to make sure to build a
sustainable environment

the various elements related the management of the supply chain of the mentioned organization.
