ITECH1100 Understanding Digital Revolution: Parchment Limbo Automation

This project focuses on automating the business processes of a second-hand book shop called Parchment Limbo using Microsoft Excel. The project analyzes the operating costs, pricing strategies, and transaction management of the shop, which is run by three staff members: Allie, Bernard, and Carl. It involves computing projected annual operating costs, evaluating pricing based on employee performance and monthly trends, and automating transaction tracking using Excel. The project also assesses whether the set prices meet the constructed goals and explores scenarios for price revision based on average offer prices and rising operating expenses. The aim is to improve efficiency and decision-making through data visualization and analysis.

Task 1
This task is associated with computing the projected annual operating cost and it is seen
that the staff salary has been divided into three employees namely Allie, Bernard and Carl and
the casual employees. The daily working hours for Allie has been 3.3 and for Bernard has been 5
and accordingly the total working hours for Allie and Bernard has been 514.8 each. On the other
hand the total working hour for Carl has been 1300. The total expenses that have been incurred
for Allie and Bernard has been “Nil” and Bernard is given $22 as the hourly wage. Therefore, the
total expenses that has been incurred for Carl has been $28,600. On the other hand, the casual
employees have a daily working hour of 5 and the total working hour comes to 1300. The hourly
wages provided to the casual employees is $33 and the total expenses that is incurred over the
casual employees is $3,300. The overall salary that is paid by the company to their employees is
$31,900. The company pays rent and insurance and therefore has to pay $2,900 and the utilities
cost of the company is $1,680. Therefore, the annual operating cost that has been incurred is
$36,480.
Task 2
The employees who are working in the organization have their own way managing their
customers and therefore take have their unique way for paying for the books which they receive
from the customers. In accordance to the price that is offered to the customers, Carl has been
offering the highest number of “good” prices to their customers and in the same manner Carl has
been providing the most number of the products that have “poor” prices. Carl has been priced the
least number of books under “terrible”. Carl has been followed by Bernard who has been
marking “good” prices and least number of “poor” and “terrible” prices. Allie has priced the

books the least out of the three. It is seen that Carl has been pricing the books more than the
others as he has been working for more hours with respect to the other employees.
In the same manner, the offer price that has been offered month by month explains that
most of the books have been priced in the month of October followed by August, September and
July. It is seen that in these months of most of the books have priced “good’ followed by “poor”
and “terrible”.
Task 3
This method looks discover and explain the automated process that is undertaken by the
company and the employees in an effective manner. The transactions that are taking place within
a defined time frame is recorded so that a track can be maintained of all the transactions that
have occurred. The transactions that have taken place are sorted with respect to the time and the
date of the transaction and all the interactions that have taken place with the client and the
feedback and the process that is taken in order to complete one transaction is recorded in an
efficiently. Excel software has been used in order to sort all the transactions in such a manner
that every transactions that have taken place from the first day to the last day can be maintained
in the ascending order.
Task 4.1
This section is created in order to generate an idea of whether the prices that have been
labeled are able to meet the constructed goals or not. It is seen that the offered prices have been
able to satisfy the constructed objectives as the prices have been set in accordance to the
condition of the book and thereby prices are paid to the customers based on the value and the
condition of the book. This will be beneficial for the company as well as the customers as well.

Task 4.2
Scenario 1
The prices that have been constructed for the books are based on the high price, low price
and medium prices. It is seen that the prices have constructed based on the average offer price.
The actual price has been constructed on the basis of the average offered price and the average
price has been doubled in order to construct the actual price.
Scenario 2
By making an estimation that all the books have were purchased and have been sold, a
revised price has been constructed and on the basis of the rise in the percentage of the operating
expenses over the general price that has been set earlier. The revised prices have been set based
on the percentage rise in the operating cost and therefore the new price has been set with the
respect to the percentage rise in the operating cost over the general price of the books.
