CE 1.4.4 Identified issues and their solutions
1.4.4.1 Issues
There were two most significant problems in this project and they were needed to be
solved as soon as possible. The issues are as follows:
i) The first major issue that we faced in the project was the specification, which was
called for the glass balustrade. The measurement of this glass balustrade was 1.5kn.
However, the client while the designing stage mentioned about the measurement of 3kn.
ii) The second issue that occurred in the project was that the failure in the installation
of steel erector according to the approved drawings. When we got the handover of steel
erector, I noticed that it was not as per approved drawings. Unfortunately, as we got the
handover lately, we did not have enough time to correct all the errors in the drawings.
1.4.4.2 Solutions
I gave suggestions to my co workers for solving the issues as this was bringing delay
in the project. The solutions that I provided for the above mentioned problems are as follows:
i) For the first issue or problem, I researched for various glass designs and finally
decided that altering the PVB inter layer to Sentry Glas would indicate that we could still
utilize the equal thickness glass. In addition, the base bracket is required to be changed to
12mm thickness for complying with the client’s standard. Although, it meant that the base
bracket would be extremely heavy for installing manually. I gave advice to my project leader
that we change the design from steel to aluminium for installing it quickly. More than 35%
on the entire installation and 30% on manufacturing was saved, since we installed lengths of
6m as a substitute of 2m.
