Research Methodology in the Study of Frontline Office Staff

A researcher planning to conduct a study on frontline office staff members in hotels is expected to encounter several issues. AN INTRODUCTION AND RESEARCH QUESTION
Understanding of Topic
Looking at the competitiveness of hospitality industry, it is important for the companies
to present frontline safety behavior appropriately so as to satisfy customer’s needs. Herein,
frontline supervisors are considered as the channel through the means of which organizational
values, policies and procedures are enacted at the frontline level (Rotella, 2009). In particular to
the firm’s i.e. Hilton, Marriot, IHG, sand Shangri-la Hotel etc. it is important for the frontline
managers to maintain appropriate behavior as they are directly in contact with the customers.
Therefore, this indicates the importance of possessing frontline safety behavior within hotel as it
is directly linked with the customer satisfaction (Singer, Linand Baker, 2009).To maintain
competitive edge within the market, it is important for the top level management to enhance their
frontline operators so that customers’ needs and wants can be understood appropriately and
addressed effectively.
Introduction
In the present proposal, researcher emphasize on assessing the significance of frontline
safety behaviors within the hospitality industry (Parker, Lawrieand Hudson, 2006). It is
important for the cited sector because operating in services oriented market, frontline supervisors
have to make sure that they deal with customer appropriately and address their needs and wants
in the best possible manner (Mearnsand Yule, 2009). With this purpose, researcher carries out
this proposal with the help of design, sampling and procedural considerations.
Research Questions
 Specific: Why frontline safety behaviour is important for hotels?
 Measurable: What knowledge regarding safety behaviour do frontline supervisors needs
in 5 star hotels?
 Achievable: Through the help of qualitative analysis, researcher focuses on assessing the
perception of frontline managers towards the safety behaviour.
 Realistic: Staff of frontline office will be selected with purposive sampling to gather
accurate and valuable information.

 Timely: To carry out the study, researcher will require 4 weeks of time.

Research Design
Looking at the nature of the present study, survey design will help in understanding each
and every prospects of the study appropriately and suitably (Whiteoak and Mohamed, 2016). It is
more important to understand the perception of frontline supervisors towards the safety
behaviour. Therefore, survey will help in gathering wide range of information regarding the
same and desired results will be generated.
Relevancy of design
Rationale behind selecting survey design is that it will help the investigator to gather
wide range of data related to the perception of frontline supervisors towards frontline safety
behaviour.
Ways of supporting research design
The main benefit of selecting survey design is that it will help in developing suitable
theoretical base of the researcher conductor regarding the selected topic (Daniel and Sam, 2011).
By the means of this, the investigator can easily carry out the entire course of study and generate
desired results with proper integration.
Methodology
On the basis of given topic, researcher will select survey design of study under which
primary data will be collected through questionnaire method with the sample size of 30 frontline
managers of different 5 star hotels in UK.
Identification of potential confounding and bias
There are several limitations that research possesses and it is important for the researcher
to undertake potential measures to overcome those. Herein, researcher will overcome confusion
and biasness through framing general perspective questions so that respondents provide adequate
and valuable information regarding the subject matter (Jackson, 2008).

Issues of research method
The major issue that researcher will face by selecting survey method is that, the cited
method is always argued to be inadequate to understand some forms of information i.e. changes
of emotions, behaviour and feelings etc. which indeed is one of the major prospects for the
present study.
Ethical considerations
To maintain ethicality of research, investigator will maintain confidentiality of
information which is gathered through different sources (Khotri, 2008). Further, safety of
individual privacy will be taken into consideration by avoiding haring of personal information of
respondents who will take part.
SAMPLING CONSIDERATION
Sampling technique
According to the present study, purposive sampling will be taken into account as it will
assist the researcher to select only those staff members who are associated to frontline office of
the hotels (Daniel, and Sam, 2011). Rationale behind selecting this approach is that it will result
in gathering accurate and unbiased information regarding the subject matter.
Conduct sampling
To conduct sampling, researcher will use email addresses of the personnel and request
them to fulfil the questionnaires so that data can be gathered.
Limitations
There are several potential limitations of the study that will affect the course of research
negatively i.e. time, knowledge, funds etc. In order to overcome, researcher will make use
different sources to gather wide range of information so that information regarding subject
matter can be enhanced suitably (Khotri, 2008). Further, different time management strategies
will be used to manage the time so that quality of research can be maintained in a significant
manner.
