Assessment Task 3: Establish the ICT project team
Task summary
In this task you will select ICT project team members, assign roles and responsibilities, develop strategies to
ensure a cohesive team and determine any required training and support needs.
This assessment is to be completed in the simulated work environment in the RTO.

Copy of the Updated Business Case from Assessment Task 2

Your assessor will advise you of the due date of these submissions.

Assessment criteria
For your performance to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment task, you must satisfactorily address all
of the assessment criteria. If part of this task is not satisfactorily completed, you will be asked to complete
further assessment to demonstrate competence.
Re-submission opportunities
You will be provided feedback on their performance by the Assessor. The feedback will indicate if you have
satisfactorily addressed the requirements of each part of this task.
If any parts of the task are not satisfactorily completed, the assessor will explain why, and provide you
written feedback along with guidance on what you must undertake to demonstrate satisfactory performance.

Assessment Task 3 Instructions
Complete the following activities:
1. Establish the IT project team.
Review the IT Biz Solutions Team document and choose three people to join your team.
Remember that a good team is one that complements each other yet ensures a range of skills
and knowledge, both technical and non-technical. Also consider group dynamics when choosing
your team.
You will need:
One Assistant Project Manager
One Hardware Specialist
One Software Specialist
Refer to your Updated Business Case and stakeholder analysis to determine if there are other
team requirements to be addressed.
In order to establish a project team, it is not only important to identify required people for project
team, but it is also important to ensure that these people provide knowledge and skills required
for implementing project. It not only involves technical knowledge, but some non-technical
knowledge as well. Along with this, considering group dynamics is also important while
designing project team. In this context, three members are included in project team which are
Assistant Project Manager, Hardware Specialist and Software Specialist. Technical knowledge
and non-technical knowledge of these three team members are described in details in this
context.
Assistant Project Manager
In terms of technical knowledge some important aspects that Assistant Project Manager needs
to ensure are the followings:
Knowledge of IT infrastructure:
In an IT project, knowledge regarding IT infrastructure is of prime importance, otherwise, it is not
easy to manage a project where new software will be implemented for organization. Although in-
depth knowledge is not required, but it is important to have some basic idea regarding what is
an IT infrastructure, how IT infrastructure works and its importance in deploying any new
software for organization.
Some of the non-technical knowledge important for an assistant project manager are the
followings:
Define scope of project:
It is important for project managers to define scope of project and when this is defined properly,
it enhances success of project. However, it is not only enough to define project scope, it needs
to be communicated with project team and this is another important knowledge that assistant
project manager needs to ensure as well.
Lead team:
It is not only responsibility of team manager to lead a team, even an assistant project manager
needs to contribute in this context. Along with providing direction to execute project it is
important to motivate a team and this is where leadership skill is important as well.
Hardware Specialist
For a hardware specialist it is important to provide some technical knowledge and some
important technical knowledge are the followings:
Integrate hardware components:
Although this is a fundamental knowledge for a hardware specialist, it is important to ensure that
a hardware specialist is capable of integrating various hardware components according to
system requirements.

Hardware trouble shooting:
After software system is implemented, there might be issues in this software system for issues
in hardware integrated in this software system. A hardware specialist should be capable of
identifying these issues through trouble shooting and resolve those issues as well.
In terms of non-technical knowledge some of the important aspects are the followings:
Work in team:
It is important that hardware specialist has knowledge regarding how to work in a team as in a
project team work plays an important role for project success. Therefore, this is an important
non-technical knowledge as well.
Communicate effectively:
Another important aspect of non-technical knowledge is communication. It is important to
communicate with project stakeholders for identifying their requirements and implement those
requirements into project. It ensures that design and implementation of project strategies are
effective and efficient as well.
Software Specialist
For a software specialist it is also important to offer some technical knowledge and some of
these important technical knowledges are the followings:
Integrate software components:
An essential knowledge for a software specialist, it is important to ensure that a hardware
specialist is capable of integrating various software components according to system
requirements.
Software trouble shooting:
After software system is implemented, there might be issues in this software system. A software
specialist should be capable of identifying these issues through trouble shooting and resolve
those issues as well.
Testing of applications:
This is another important technical knowledge for software specialist. It allows software
specialists to identify issues in software in terms of performance and security as well.
In terms of non-technical knowledge some of the important aspects are the followings:
Work in team:
It is important that software specialist should know how to work in a team as in a project team
work plays an important role for project success. Therefore, this is an important non-technical
knowledge as well.
Communicate effectively:
Communication is an important aspect of non-technical knowledge. It is important that software
specialist communicate with project stakeholders to identify stakeholder requirements and
implement those requirements into project. It ensures effective execution of project strategies as
well.
2. Develop Project Team Charter.
Once you have chosen your team members, begin filling out the charter by completing the
following sections:
Introduction
Project team members
Roles and responsibilities (use your knowledge of the tasks to be completed; one
appropriate person must be established as the Assistant Project Manager)
Performance management and appraisal
Leave Team values and behaviours for now.
Judith and Ishtar have requested that Ben is able to support the team with software installation
and account set up. They would also like to see him involved in administrative activities,
including:
Documenting meeting minutes
