Introduction
Microfinance is a category of financial services targeting individuals and small
businesses that lack access to conventional banking and related services (Brown,
2016). Therefore, it is significant because it gives various services, resources as well as offers
capital to the person and other institutions that do not get the loans, credit etc. In the research
proposal “Critical Analysis of Micro-financing on Youth Empowerment in Developing country:
A case study of Kenya” is selected. It is because it plays an important role in youth
empowerment in Kenya by charging up their lives and enhances their standard of living by
providing them resources according to their needs and requirement (Ranganath, Ghazaleh, &
Liu, 2018).
This topic is important because it balances the consciousness of the youth with their
values, belief and attitudes. It is also significant because of providing their effects so that it
provides information to the government and institutions about their positive and negative effects
so that further corrective actions will be taken. In this research proposal, the conceptual
framework by addressing the influence of Micro-financing on youth empowerment and their
importance in Kenya is discussed. The methodologies which will be used in conducting research
and budget as well as activities conducted in the project are also discussed.
Problem statement
The estimation demonstrates that in the country there are about 75% of the population
which are unemployed as well as the majority of the population does not get on the job training
that is about 92% of the population in the country are not trained in the specific area of the job
(Statistics, 2010). Therefore, to increase in the population that is there is 20% youngster out of
the total population in the economy but due to more continuous increase in unemployment, in the
current year poverty in Kenya is increased. There are various other factors which are increased
and negatively affect the country because of unemployment and poverty which includes an
increase in the infectious diseases among the youth such as HIV/AIDS, increase in the
consumption of drugs and alcohol as well as raise in the crime and violence in the economy
(Mugenda, 2008).

It becomes difficult for the government to deal with these situations and to develop
various policies so that these issues will be overcome. To the development of different strategies
the government makes rules but still, Kenya remains underdeveloped and exploited in a higher
manner (Ullah & Haq, 2018). Therefore, recently Micro-financing in Kenya is developed it is
due to overcome various issues that are present proposal demonstrate that research will be
conducted on examining the influence of Micro-financing strategy on youth empowerment.
Research Objectives
The population of youth is raising and faces various difficulties due to an increase in
poverty and unemployment. This results that through this individual does not satisfy their needs
which includes safety, psychological and other needs such as housing it is because this leads in
raising several issues which is related to health and suffer from the problem of lack of
opportunities (Kim, 2018). Therefore, the research proposal describes that research will be
conducted by investigating the practical means for empowering the youth with the help of Micro-
Financing.
This research will be important because not much of the study is conducted in Kenya to
understand the effects of Micro-Financing on youth empowerment in a more critical manner.
This provides information about the issues that youth is facing in the economy so that further
efficient policies will be developed so that problems will be addressed. It is also significant
because through this government can also organize various programs so that training is provided
and counseling sessions will be developed for the youth so that their personal and other problems
will be solved and youth can gain capabilities to perform efficiently in particular task.
Research Questions
The research question is considered the argument and subject area for which the research
is conducted so that the objective of performing the research will be achieved. The research
proposal describes that research will be conducted to get the answer of "Micro-Financing on the
youth empowerment in Kenya". Therefore, to get the answers various variables will be addressed
which includes problems which youth faced in Kenya will be determined and government
policies to overcome the issues will also be described.

The information will also receive the percentage of youth empowered in Kenya by
adopting the strategy of Micro-Financing. The research will be focusing on gathering the
information so that the answer to the research question will be obtained that is "What is the
influence of Micro-Financing on youth empowerment in developing countries that are
particularly in Kenya”. It is because the Micro-Financing strategy is increased in various
developing countries.
Justification and potential output of the research
The research proposal describes that the potential output of the research will be that Micro-
Financing helps increasing youth empowerment in Kenya it is because of increasing their
standard of living as well as raising their status. This also helps in increasing employment
opportunities and skills by providing loans to the small organization through which they can train
their employees to increase their capabilities in a particular job and area. Therefore, it is revealed
that expected outcomes will be positive and describes that there is a direct relationship between
Micro-Financing and youth empowerment, this is due to the reason that this leads in encouraging
the youth to become entrepreneurs and improve their financial services.
Conceptual Framework and Hypothesis development
Micro-financing definition
Micro-Financing is considered the category which provides financial services through
focusing and mainly targeting the person and other small institutions which do not access and get
the banking services such as loans etc. The estimation describes that in Kenya it provides
services to the 50% of the youth by giving saving as well as checking account, micro-insurance
etc (Nadzri, Omar, & Rahman, 2017). So that their problem will be overcome and provide
adequate resources according to the needs of the youth. Through this, it can increase and
maintain a positive relationship with the small banking institutions as well as individual
entrepreneurs. It also adopts the mechanisms and increases the opportunity to apply and get the
services in a group in which various youth entrepreneurs can get loans, credit etc (Kim, 2018).

This also reduces the filing work and other documentation of the youth and support them
by reducing their time, it provides quality financial services and maintains affordability as well
as payment services (Statistics, 2010). Micro-financing also plays an important role in
encouraging the youth to involve ad take part in various business activities and get a loan to
become an entrepreneur so that various problems will be solved and economic development will
be achieved in the long run (Vrajlal, 2016). It provides various services which include providing
credit 55%, deposits 15% etc (Chin & Mohd Nor, 2016).
Relationship between Micro-Financing and youth empowerment
There is an association among Micro-Financing and youth empowerment it is due to the
reason that it reduces unemployment in various developing countries because the investigation
revealed that the rate of unemployment in developing countries is high (Waniak-Michalak &
Michalak, 2019). This also enhance the status and reputation of the youth by raising their
standard of living as well as their families through this youth get finance when required and
increase the skills of the youth because of providing finance to the small institutions so that they
get adequate finance to train their employees and to increase their knowledge in specific fields
(Kumar, Agrawal, & Gambhir, 2017).
The training is considered the most important part of increasing the abilities and
capabilities of the individual towards their job so that they can perform better in specific job
areas (Nadzri, Omar, & Rahman, 2017). This also provides an opportunity for the youth so that
they can expand and start their enterprises. Micro-financing also organizes several programs in
which they provide the information to the youth about the friendly policy and access them so that
they can spread effectiveness and efficiency (Taifi & Khaddouj, 2016). This supports them the
youth to develop and bring new ideas by providing them training so that they can sustain and
develop more economically. Therefore, it can provide positive support in the overall lives and
health of the youth in different countries.
Importance of Micro-financing
Micro-Financing is important it is because this overcomes the problem of getting loans at
a higher interest rate and support the individual and entrepreneurs so that they can invest in the
business as well as themselves. Micro-Finance institutions also help the individual in providing

better facilities by reducing poverty and increasing the standard of living of themselves as well
as families. This also provides credit and removes the issue of inequalities in developing
countries (Kim, 2018). The main principle of the institution is that it helps in serving the
individual who are overlooked and by which the individual feels dissatisfied in society. The
Micro-Financing also provide positive effects in empowering women. Therefore, it is estimated
that Micro-Financing is increasing in the present year that is in the year 2018, there are about
11,700 numbers of institutions (Waniak-Michalak & Michalak, 2019).
This helps in increasing leadership qualities and can support the board of directors to
make efficient decisions so that youth and women will be encouraged and empowered (Yunus,
2018). Micro-Financing leads in providing an efficient loan repayment rate in comparison to the
existing products of banking. The estimation demonstrate that in Kenya government introduce
various policies so that Micro-Financing will be increased in the country and provide positive
effects which include that through this poverty will be reduced and can raise the role of
leadership among youth by maintaining integrity as well as honesty in the country (Chiazor,
Egharevba, & Ozoya, 2016).
Hypothesis development
The hypothesis is considered the argument which is developed by the researchers for
further investigation. Researchers collect and analyze the information so that the argument is
justified and the aim of performing the research will be achieved (Taifi & Khaddouj, 2016). This
also supports the researchers to focus on the subject matter and analyze elements that are related
to the study.

Methodology
The research methodology is the guideline that helps the research to accomplish the
objective of the research. In this procedure, various activities and approaches are used so that
data is collected and analyzed appropriately according to the subject matter (Brown, 2016). The
research proposal describes a research approach, technique used in data collection and data
collection.
Research Approach and sources of data
The research proposal describes that present research will be using descriptive research
approach it is because this helps me in understanding the characteristics of the respondents and
take the opinions and attitudes of different respondents. Through this approach, I can segment
the respondents and can investigate the demographic segment of the respondents which will be
involved in the study. This approach can also support me in providing information about the
occurrence of the phenomenon.
The research will be using a mixed methodology that is both qualitative method and
quantitative method will be used it is because through qualitative approach variables that will be
involved in the study will be identified and the quantitative method help in understanding the
relationship between both Micro-Financing and youth empowerment. This also supports me in
getting complete information about the subject matter and help in maintaining accuracy and
validity in the research.
The research will be using both types of data sources that are a secondary and primary
method, it is because in the secondary method critical analysis method will be used to identify
the issues faced by youth, the current condition of Kenya as well as the significance of Micro-
Financing in Kenya. Through this, the other segments of the subject matter will be addressed.
Further, the primary method will also be used by taking the interview from the focused group so
that their opinions about the influence of the Micro-Financing on empowering the youth will be
gathered. The research will also be using the questionnaire method that is an open and closed
questionnaire in which support will be given to the respondents and also get the free response
from the respondents.

Proposed data collection and analysis technique
For collecting the secondary method that is to investigate the two important variables can
support gathering elements that are related in gathering the information this will is taken from
gathering the opinions and attitudes of different authors about the Micro-Financing institutions in
Kenya. The primary method will be used by developing the questions and taking the interview,
in this interview starts with the formal introduction and questions will be asked according to the
subject matter so that all the respondents will be recorded to further data analysis. The follow up
of the responses will also be done this is because the efficiency in the study will be maintained.
The technique will be used for data analysis it is due to the reason that this helps in
getting the answer to the research. It is the most important step because the overall research will
depend on evaluating the information which is gathered. The research proposal demonstrates that
the pilot testing method will be used so that the questionnaire will be refined and the validity of
the study will be maintained. Therefore, the survey is taken by adopting the five-point Likert
scale so that the collected data will be scaled. These all methods support me in maintaining the
accuracy, validity and efficiency of the information.
The study will also be selecting the focus group so that opinions will be specific and
accurate. The study will be selecting 82 managers of Micro-Financing institution in Kenya. The
managers will be all level of managers that is from the top, middle and lower-level managers
who all focuses on executing several products of youth-oriented. In this, all the respondents get
involve in providing the respondents about the subject matter.
Organisation of the study
The organisation of the research will be done by dividing the task into different chapters-
 In Chapter-1 discussion will be made regarding the overall proposal of the research

opinions of the authors is also included.
 In Chapter -3 discussion would be done about the methodologies used in researching by
including technique which is used in collecting and analyzing the information

appropriate results as well as implications about the study will also be discussed.

proposal, the whole research is designed that is a research approach and sources of data will be
selected. The data collection and analysis part is time-consuming it is because the whole research
is based on the collected information. Further, the final report is developed by providing findings
in which the results and answers to the research question are written. After, this conclusion and
recommendations will be written based on the analysis and findings received through the
research.
Budget
The development of the research proposal as well as a literature review in which various
sources that is online resources, journal articles as well as other materials cost up to $ 1500. In
the second phase data collection is done which includes that in organizing interviews and
conducting a survey about $ 3500 cost will be incurred. In this step, I will also do an audio
recording to take the perception of the manager in an interview. The data analysis will be

conducted by adopting the software that is SPSS which costs up to $ 1000. Therefore, the overall
budget for conducting the research will be $ 6000.
