In this assessment case study is given in that Laura is associate director of non profit organisation in which evaluate skills building program(American Diabetes Association, 2017). She supervise two mangers appointed within the last six month the name of them is Kelly and Linda. Apart from that management skills and leadership style that could be use together and suitable leadership style that will be beneficial for company is studied. Strategies for improving these skills and steps to motivate employees in the organisation is also being discussed. MAIN BODY Ways to use Management skills and Leadership skills together Management skills and leadership style couldbe done effectively through proper understanding of the both skills as in this case study Laura is playing the role of both manger and leader. In this given study, both the managers are competent and successfully manage the available staff. This will gives an opportunity to Laura to enhance the skills of leader style through delegating the responsibility to the both the managers. She has to build the leadership quality in herself rather than focusing on management skills because being a leader she will easily be able to handle all the responsibilities that comes under her. In an organisation leadership skills weigh more than management skills as it include all the qualities of that should be in every mangers. Both the manager will be automatically motivated andconfident to solve the problem of their staff and mange their departmental employees. It will help them in building senseofbelongingnessand commitmenttowardsthecompanythatwillenablethemto understand the mission and vision of organisation. This include development of overall strength and qualities of employees through correct guidance to them. Better leadership is more important in every firm for improving the performing of employees and it facilitated the effective communication and create good team through proper monitoring of all the staff members(Deepak and Jeyakumar, 2019).This require understanding the behaviour of different people thoroughly, this can be achieve by study of this style. If both the mangers are successfully able to mange their staff employees than almost whole management will be monitored on its own. If manger has a combination of both the skills than it will be like cherry on the cake, but that will be quite rare to find both this skills together. Through this many leadership quality has come up to resolve the internal issue of company that will improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of employees. According to this case study, Democratic leadership is suitable for the situation it refers to taking the input from all team members and then decides the final action. It involves every employees into the decision process and allow them to take appropriate steps according to their circumstances(Demirkesen and Ozorhon, 2017).It will help them in increasing the confidence and build sense of resemble and give the best decision as they feel part of organisation. Laura having negative attitudetowards the company, as it hiding important information about the management to mangers and that leads to overworked on staff and due to this miscommunication it makes the mangers frustrated. Due to this style it made the leader to share all the necessary information to its manger andensure effective communication and relationship with its fellow employees. This is most helpful and used style in almost all the organisation. It allow the lower level employees to take the required decision regarding the project. It gives opportunity to the everyone to share ideas, participate and discussion, these all the feature required in the Laura. In this company certain things are needed, as employees were unaware about the what is going in the organisation. This leadership style is beneficial for increasing the group moralean better contribution.IT give sense of engagement in the management process, increase creativity and being rewarded and employees were feel motivated and encourages due to include them in every decision process in organisation. This leaders mostly include intelligence, social and ethical responsibilities, honesty, fairness, capable and ability to motivate employees and develop the feeling in employees to be see themselves with the associate of organisation. If Kelly and Linda were involve in decision process then, the situation of being neglected by Laura is not arise in the management. If this 2
style is implemented then almost all this issues will be solved as this is most suitable in this situation. Both the mangers are even competent and skilled if leader include them into the decision process than, they will definitely give best, innovative and creative ideas for sure. Also from that both the manger will be able to communicate the issue of related finance budget to their staff and that will tend to decrease the burden over them. In this situation, miscommunication, mistrust and lack of involvement of lower level employees is exist and that could be solved through this method or style(Gadde and et.al., 2018).Many of employees were not aware about the condition in organisation that will build stress and lack of confidence among them, that will also create confusion about what they required to do. At the end it willhelp in developing what overall improvement and functional activities in organisation. Strategies for improving Leadership skills and Management skills To develop the strategies to improve the leadership skills, leader should follow certain guidelines as this is very important to monitor and handle whole management. If it is not done in proper manner than it create monotonous and tense situation kind of feeling in the organisation. To ensure effective leadership some required strategies need to adopt, so that leader able to perform as per the needs. It will know about what need to be done and what not. It will also help in developing good environment and he also know how to treat the employees so that they will perform better. Some strategies involve such as- ï‚·Effective listening-Having effective communication skills are very necessary part in every organisation. So, listening is also important skills that comes under this. Being a effective leader they should listen what employee is talking about and understand their situation(Prakash, 2018). Through this only they able to give proper feedback and give suggestion to them. This can be done though eye contact and positive gesture, body language towards them(Heath, 2018). This will reduce the problem of employees that exist in firm because leader is listening to its employees passionately. ï‚·Motivating the employees-A leader required to pump up the confidence and able to influence the employees and give them courage to do that they can do everything. True leader will empower their employees and make them realise in their capabilities that they required a lot. This strategies is most powerful one,as it gives amazing outcomes and most of leaders in this world are using this tool to improve their skills. This quality 3
required in every organisation, where leader know needs and wants of employees and according cater to them. Problem solving-This skills or strategies is very necessary and at the same time helpful. In an organisation leader has a responsibilities of handling many issues and sometime, situation has come where they have to take decision which should be prompt and clear. So, every company needs one leader who has great decision making ability which will aids the firm in formulating plan and policies(Jones and et.al., 2017).Nowadays this skills is very mandatory to have as, in this evolving environment this quality assist in taking fast decision that will improve the efficiency and productivity of management. Manager has also need some strategies to improve their skills so that they can effectively able mange whole management. Some are as follows- Clear goals and objective-It is very necessary to know about the goals and sired objective to achieve otherwise how he will be able to deliver this to its subordinate. So if that were clear about their organisation's vision and mission, it will be easier for them to implement plan and rules in company. Building the trust-If subordinate has a trust over manger then it improve the Working environment in organisation(Radujković and Sjekavica, 2017). As, they will do work effectivelyandaidsinmaintaininggoodrelationinthefirm.Thisincreasethe performance and quality in the employees and better output to the company. Steps to motivate employees in organisation Its important to build confidence among employees as they are asset for company , so they should be treated nicely and make them feel important. It will boost their self confidence and enhance the performance. There are some Steps to improve the performance and efficiency in following way- Effective Communication-To develop the confidence in employees the must be treated fairly and nicely by employer. It means giving a compliment about their work it will boost their capabilities and they will put more hard work to make it better and more appreciable. Balancing the thing-It refers to balancing out the negative and positive traits of employees by avoiding its weakness and highlight their positive characteristics. on enhancing the good thing about the employees increase the productivity and they will come out with better version of themselves. ï‚·Recognizing and rewarding-Employees get motivation from monetary terms as well. Employeeswhowereconstantlydoingtheirworkandgivinggreatoutputneed recognition and reward in the form of raises, bonus and incentives, promotions, paid days off, gift cards and appreciation through performance certificate(Keeling, 2018).It develop and increase the believe in themselves and motivated in doing job at their workplace. ï‚·Know the requirement-It concern with developing the good relations with employee through proper communication, by asking them about their personal and professional issue if they have any. Reassure that they have everything that they want and try to fulfilling their needs. This could be done if manger has sincere attitude towards them and do not make them feel that they just doing their job. ï‚·Increasing the participation-Through this employees feel attached create participative environment, it develop the exchange of ideas and thoughts and that able to give it more effectively as they working on the ground level. It increase the more ways and options to the company. They feel their decision is somewhere going to help the organisation, this will boost the confidence and decision making capabilities in the employees. In this situation this step is necessary to adopt as they were unaware about what is the situation in company. ï‚·Receive the feedback-This is important thing that must be done by manger for asking the feedback, as it will ensure that all the function in company is happening as per the set goals and objective of organisation(Money and Garber, 2018).If required manager might take some steps to improve the situation after consulting the employees. CONCLUSION It is to be concluded that Management includes all the managerial activities and function that involve planning, organising, controlling, directing whole management process and it exist almost the operational strategies and plan. In this study it has shown that in which way management skills and lead skills could be done together according to the case study. Apart from that best leadership style that suitable in case study, strategies to improving management skills and leadership quality and steps to motivate the employees in the organisation has been studied. 5
