Introduction
This project is related to make project and management of operational cost on
Heathrow Airport, and its highly congested terminal of number five. It have lots of
completion, and they have to make effective approaches for improving the image of airport in
front of public. As London Heathrow airport is the largest airport in UK and it is second
busiest airport in the world. Heathrow will manage more international airport than any other
airport and has the cost passenger traffic in European Union. They serve more than 65 million
passenger through 90 airlines having main four strained terminals (Al-Mazrouie and et.al.,
2020). This report will include about issues which are face by Heathrow Airport in project
management, Operations shortcoming, risk management plan and providing relevant quality
framework which work as a TQM and help in improving quality of the airport. This is all
related to a case study and discuss about the failure and strategies to overcome that in an
organised manner.

3 main Project Management Flaws in the Heathrow Terminal Five Project
There are several challenges which are related to project manager in order to
managing the mega project of terminal five. This make tend to affect its productivity and able
to delivery affected procedure with the great extent. These issues and challenges are more
related to project management and implementation of the plan which are needed to be work
in assigned time period. Main three issues are explained below:
Risk of uncertainty: The uncertainty is related to biggest challenge in the project
management which may affect the projects and make great extent to it. However there
are lots of issues related to complexity, uncertainty, and value creation are used to
enhance the chance and able to make project uncertainty. Here uncertainty and risk
both are linked and make a threat to the project for the time of implementation of the
construction projects. The main reason to having this issues in project management
team is to have improper communication with different stakeholders and team
members. As it can be said that the proper interaction with the projects member and
stakeholders lead to reduce the risk of uncertainties (Baccelli, 2020). Further this can
be said that the risk and opportunities are helpful for the project to minimize the risk
of uncertainty. At the time of construction of airport in 1990, Heathrow terminal five
face the major problem that may be related to environmental change which are

following by the Scottish government, The British library and Jubilee line extension.
As a result the construction time was increased by three years and budget increased up
to 80% in the comparison to expected value of the project. This shown the uncertainty
risk which was work towards the success and make completed project through
selected life of span.
Material handling and logistic issues: Another issue which is measure by the
construction of different mega projects as it is associated with the flow of production.
This is the issue which is directly related to usage of resources and able to service
level and make transection as per the time of transections. Moreover, the smooth
transection of the transportation of material is very helpful in minimizing the time and
manage cost of the construction project. Further it is said that logistic activities are
related to construction site, and free flow of material which seems critical for
sometimes. This is related to maximization of cost and would be related to 12% to
40%. As material handling is basically related to critical problem in many of the
construction sites which actually have the busiest way of the country (Brozynski and
Leibowicz, 2020). As Heathrow airport are dealing with some of the major logistic
problem and not able to complete their work in the durable time period in 2006. This
has been become an issue of material handling as it has the single main entrance.
Further this can be said that there are more than 8000 workers are managing their
daily work as it is the busiest airport. Terminal 5 had very limited space, so it become
difficult there to make flow of the material thus it become the foremost issue in
Heathrow Airport. For solving this issue they can able to make more space and work
on the construction site with more opening and closing entrance. Further the
management system of the airport needed to be upgraded as they can be work more
effectively than before.
