IntroductionManagement of operation is considered as essential part of business unit that concentrateson producing quality output. The main objective of applying operation management inworkplace is to utilize resources well and develop such products that can meet with consumer’sneeds (Blum, 2015). Current report is based on Marks and Spencer which is the leading fashionbrand, operates its business across the world. Company aims to offer quality products toconsumers so that they feel satisfied and retain in the organization for longer duration. Presentstudy will discuss role of leader and function of managers in the workplace. It will explaindifferent theories and models of leadership such as situational, system leadership. Furthermore,assignment will explain factors that affect business environment and impact on working of firm.Task 1P1 Compare role and characteristic of leaders and managerLeaders and managers contribute well in achieving organizational goal. Managers areresponsible persons those coordinate with employees and manage them. On other hand leadersare the leading people those who lead workers so that they can perform their duties well. Bothplay different role in Marks and Spencer (Bolton and Thompson, 2015). Leaders concentrates oninnovation whereas managers pays attention on pre-determined rules and regulation. Differencebetween both are explained as below:RoleLeadersManagersCharacteristicLeaders of M&S have characterof innovator, individual bringsinnovative ideas to performwork effectively.Managers have character ofadministrator, individual has tofollow pre-determined rules ofhigher authorities. SO managerbelieves in completing work byfollowing set process.FocusAttention of leaders are onleading people.Attention of managers of citedfirm is on management ofemployees.VisionLeaders have long term vision,they bring ideas that can fulfilllong term goal of company(Brimhall Lizano andManagers think for short termvision.

Barak,2014).TargetsLeaders give target toemployees by consideringfuture goal. They work in suchmanner so that overall long-term goal of company can beachieved.Managers targets on currentresponsibilities and fulfilling ofcurrent allotted work.ValuesLeaders treat employees asassets and motivate them sothat they can work withenthusiasm.Managers just manages people,they control on them so thattheir mistakes can be minimized(Cherrafi and et.al., 2016).RoleLeaders plays role of motivator,innovator in the organization.Managers paly role ofadministrator and planner in theM&S.P2 Role of leader and function of managerLeaders and managers are important part of business unit, they work well then companycan achieve their goal easily.
