Introduction
Management of operation is the practice of administration with the highest level of
competence in a company. It is the maximum utilization of the materials, labour, equipments and
technology. It is the best use of human power to maximize the growth of the company. Creation
of the highest level of efficiency is the best exercise of operation management. Top management
of any organisation or company try to balance between the cost and revenue to increase the Net
Operating Profit. The success of an organization is in the hands of a successful manager who can
combine the coordination and understanding of a company. This is why a company needs a mix
of good leaders and great managers (Kanat-Maymon and et.al.,2020).

Sainsbury is one of the leading food retailers in UK who has 16% of market shares of
supermarket industry in UK. The company is the oldest food chain retailers in UK. It was
established in 1869 by J.J Sainsbury. The company owns around 800 stores including
supermarkets and convenience stores currently. Sainsbury is not just selling groceries , it is the
UK’s largest food retailer and an e-commerce offering company too. Sainsbury sells clothing,

home appliances, and also electronics. The Sainsbury’s standalone stores sell its consumer goods
with the name of “Argos” brand. Sainsbury is also in consumer banking through Sainsbury's
Bank. The company provides insurance and banking products.
The report will focus on the roles and responsibility of leaders and manager and their
significance in Sainsbury. An analysis will also be shown of the different roles of management
and leadership in application to different organisational situations, supported by theories and
concept. Different approaches of leadership and managements are also used in the report to
evaluate the strength and weakness of the organisation. At the end of the report it is shown that
how managers and leaders have a great impact on the organisation and can contribute towards
the success.
