INTRODUCTION
Management and operations is related to various business practises which are related to
having a administration which can lead to very high efficiency in the company. This is concerned
with production process to take place with maximum effectiveness as resources are always
limited and those have to be used in a manner which can provide maximum benefit to company.
This report is based on Corus which is a steel making company and their headquarters are
present in UK and Netherlands. this report is based on various aspects related with operations
and management (Tayfur, 2017). Key approaches of operation's management and role played by
leaders and manages, part from that significance of operations management is discussed from
pointy of organisation. Lastly various factors of business environment which have a impact on
operations of a company are discussed.

P4- Explain Key approaches to operations management and role that leader and manager play
There are various methods which have a impact on overall growth of a business
organisation in a market. In context with Corus, there are various approaches Such as Six sigma,
lean principle which are necessary for conducting business activities in an effective manner.
Below discussed are some of approaches:
TQM: This is a took which is emphasizing on maintenance of quality of various
products. In present scenario various strategies are used to provide services so as to attract
maximum number of customers. In corus, company is focusing on creation of a good brand
image which can help them in surviving in market in long run. It is the overall respobility of
various managers and leaders in Corus to focus on providing training to their staff members so
that execution of business activities take place in an effective manner (Stein, Walter and Flath,
2019).
Lean management: this is also a tool which is helping in reduction of wastage and
having better quality of goods & service sin which organisation is dealing. These tools are

followed so that there is a organized process and no wastage is taking place. In Corus, company
is willing to follow a tool of lean management so that execution of activities is taking place in an
appropriate manner. The managers & all leaders posses to make sure that they are able to plan all
strategies to modify their existing products or to launch a new product.
Six Sigma: This is a method which is helping in reduction of wastage in services up to a
certain extent. This is a based on on statistical data so that there is removal of any defects in the
product. Six sigma is very helpful to companies so that they are able to enhance customer
loyalty. There is a tool commonly called as DMAIC approach which consists of aspects such as
define, measure, analyse, improve and control so that product is good in terms of quality. Six
sigma tool is basically used in solving various issues which are related with operations in overall
working culture of company. In Corus, managers have to ensure that company is using tools to
correct defects and prevent them from occurring in future. Leaders here have the role that they
have to ensure that their team members are using the DMIAC approach in their whole
functioning.
From above discussed points it is identified that upper authorities in Corus is playing a
very crucial role in maintaining high quality in their services and products. The managers
identifies position of market so that adequate information can be collected. This helps in taking
feedback from various customers so that overall quality can be improved accordance with
requirement of customer to keep their level of satisfaction high. This will help in increasing
profitability of Corus (Saha, 2018).
P5- Explain the significance & value of operations management in order to attain business
objectives
Operations management is a business practise which is helpful in creating high
profitability level and effectiveness in the organisation. This is generally concerned with a
process of converting of raw materials into finished goods which can help in enhancing
satisfaction level of customers. Mangers will be able to to make goods which are high in quality
so that there are positive outcomes the significance of operations management is discussed
below:
Enhancement of overall productivity: To create elements which are positive in a organisation
which is helpful in growth and sustain of company is the competitive market. In Corsu leaders &

managers are willing to develop plans and then execute them with the help of various strategies
so that coverall productivity can be enhanced (Mahmood, Ullah and Ning, 2018). There are
many steps which can b e taken to improve overall productivity of companies such as
improvement of working conditions, having positive environment, having right tools available at
right place all such steps will ensure that productivity of employees will increase which will have
a positive impact on enhancing productivity of organisation as a whole.
Cost effectiveness: Managers and leaders are very important for every organisation in
Corus this is a tool which helps in identification of various alternatives and solutions so that cost
can be managed with the help of developing various strategies which can help the management
team of Corus in development of strategies so that overall cost can be managed and minimized
at same time. There are many different types of cost which are present in every business such as
procurement of raw materials, storing them in warehouses, using them in manufacturing process
of company and finally distributing the finished products so that they are offered to the ultimate
consumer in market. In this process there are many different cost which occur with every step
and mangers make sure that such type of cost are being minimized. This will help in ensuring
effectiveness in different functions of company (Jacob, and Kottayam, K).
TQM is a tool that helps in operational management in Corus in terms of high quality
maintenance so that they are having a competitive advantage compared to other competitors how
is offering similar kind of products. Just in Time inventory is very important for achievement of
cost effectiveness and ensuring a smooth functioning without any shortage of raw materials.
Lastly, contours improvement will help Corus in making sure that all products and services are
according to the set standards by various leaders & managers during the beginning of the
production process.

and decision-making by leaders and managers
Business environment considers various elements so that they are able to create a
significant impact on ability of organisation to maintain and build a positive and long term
relationship between customers. In organisations there are some factors which Create a positive

impact on decision making process of leaders and management which is done by mangers
belonging to various functional units. This function takes place in Corus as discussed below:
Social factors: There are some factors which have to be consider by business
organisations which at mainly related to various social beliefs and overall social
behaviour of individuals. In Corus the company is willing to conduct additional research
with time so that they are able to effectively study various factors which are related to
social behaviour of individuals and different trends and changes which are taking place in
social environment of this company (Idrees, 2015). Such social trends lead to change in
the existing products or services that are being offered Corus and have to be done by
leaders & mangers.
Culture: Culture of Organisation is related to a system which is concerned with beliefs
and values which are in relation with assumptions of company which is used for
governing of employees in the organisation. It is necessary that a requirement that
employees are having a feeling of security. This is a necessary aspect which is required
so that employees are able to contribute up to their full potential. Culture of a
organisation has a great impact on their overall functioning such as when there us a
complete working culture then it leads to decision making that has to be more in favour
of employees who are contributing more and they have to motivated enough to maximize
their contribution towards objectives of the organisation.
Corporate Social Responsibility: This includes responsibility and duties which are
related to various stakeholders in company. There are many different stakeholders such
as customers, employees, government, investors, shareholders etc. Operations
management is related to function related to decision making done by leaders and
managers which is having affect on corporate social responsibility as a function of
organisation. Management and operations as a function related to decision making by
mangers and leaders has a very high impact on overall function of social responsibility in
company. Mangers posses responsibility that in all different types of decision that are
being made in their organisation there must be complete focus that has to be done
towards implementation of CSR practises in their organisation.
Stakeholders: These are referred as group of persons who posses a direct or indirect
impact of functioning of any organisation. They posses a high impact on implementation

of various functions, operations, plans and policies which play a very crucial role in
implementation of various decision in the company. In Corus, leaders and managers are
mainly responsible for all the important decision which are taken after consideration of
various stakeholders. Customers are main stakeholders for Corus and all different
decision that has to be taken in the organisation must be according to the demands and
expectations of various customers.
All the stakeholders in Corus such as Customers, government, employees, suppliers and
investors are managed by leaders and managers of this company. Corus is a company who has to
make various important decision for which they always consider views of such stakeholders who
are responsible for efficient and effective functioning of this company (Gauhar and Haris, 2016).
From above discussed factors it can be said that they are having a very high impact on
overall management of operations in company. It is also being concluded that decision mkai8ng
lies on hands of Mangers and leaders which is affected by changing policies and changing
environment both internal and external in a company. This is one of very essential steps which
have to be considered to achieve various business objectives.
