INTRODUCTIONManaging the operational functions of the organisation on which it has been estimatedthat there will be appropriate planning and decision making which help organisation to achievethe adequate goals. Influences of various operational practices which in turn will be effective asper making suitable changes in the operations. The differences in operational practices of aleader or a manager has impacts over operational activities in firm. In the present report therewill be discussion based on a role and characteristics of leader and manager in relation withhandling and operating various business activities. Study will be based on suggesting theappropriate changes to Intercontinental Hotel Group as per implicating various techniques andanalysing efficiency of firm in making operational decisions.LO1P1 Analysing the differences in characteristics and role of a leader and managerDifferences in the operational functioning of leaders and managers which are based onvarious characteristics and individual behaviour. Therefore, importance of both the individual inthe operational functions and workforce management will be required and that will be helpful inenhancing the viabilities of operations held in the premises. Moreover, the differences in role andcharacteristics of a leader and manager will be ascertained as follows:Leader:This is a person who intends to make suitable practices in terms of encouragingthe employees in making qualitative efforts. Therefore, the management of various operationswill be adequate and helpful as per meeting the goals in the right time as well as managingoperations of firm (Cressey, 2017). It will be assistive in achieving the goals and motivating staffin relation with bringing the innovative changes in the operations as well as allows them toimplicate the changes in operational practices. They act as a representative of organisation andacts as per improving business as well as individual efficiencies.Manager:These are the people who have quality of handling the operations in relationwith making managing the operational activities as well as assigning the duties to thoseindividual who have skills and talent to operate the functions (Haksever and Render, 2018). Theyaimed at fulfilling the targeted aims of business by analysing the availability of all the resourcesfor operations. Considering various roles of a manager in the organisation such as controlling,coordinating, staffing, directing, communicating as well as administrating the operations. The1
