INTRODUCTION
Operations management refers to that area of business where management focus on the
activities of designing and controlling the process of production of goods and services. This
process is responsible for ensuring that all the available resources are efficiently used in order to
meet the objective of business and customers on time (Alderton and Saieva, 2013). The role of
operational manager is to formulate and develop the strategies and tactics to ensure the smooth
implementation of operations within the organisation. The actions of operations management has
impact on the customer service, product and service quality, technological up-gradation and
profitability margins. The organisation chosen for this report is Barclays plc. Barclays plc is
multinational investment bank established in year 1690. Along with investment company is also
providing financial services and dealing in four type of businesses that are personal banking,
corporate banking, wealth management and investment management (Ahmadi, and Rezaei,
2020). The topic covered in this report are the different roles and characteristics of a leader and a
manager, role of a leader and the function of a manager in different situational contexts and
evaluate different theories and models of approach.
TASK1
P1 Different roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager.
Leader is that important asset in the business who has the ability to look at different
actions and how they can be improved and ensure that employees move towards the better
vision.
Role of leader
Strategist: Leader's role in organisation is to develop the plans and strategies for the
business operations and ensure the proper implementation of strateies and mointors the
work of its team member (Kato and NEC Corp, 2012). In context of Barclays plc leader
performs the role of outlining specific goals according to the prevailing situations and
guide the employees to achieve them.
Communication: Communication is very important for all organizational leaders as they
need to communicate their ideas and methods to the employees in order to make sure that
operations are carried in effective manner. In context of Barclays, leaders have
established good communication with the employees and their team members to ensure
