INTRODUCTION
Management and operations is a process or working that used by the every organisation
to increase the performance of work by initiate various tools, techniques and new strategies. The
company focus on resources utilization in effective manner. This report is based on Tesco
company, it is British multinational groceries retailer based in Welwyn Garden city, United
kingdom. This company founded in 1919 and they provide provide services and products in
different cities and countries. Tesco is public limited company and they have various outlets suc
as; super market, hyper market, super store and convenience shop. The below report include;
characteristics and roles of leader and a manager, observe example of leader's role and manager's
function apply in various situations, apple different theories and models of approach, include the
system leadership, contingency and situational leadership. Key approaches of operations
management and roles that managers and leaders play in Tesco. Explain the importance and
value of operations management in achieving objectives in organisation. Elements within
business environment that impact on operations management and decision making by managers
and leaders (Al Ghani, 2018).

P1.Explain and compare the various roles and characteristics of leader and a manager
Leader: A leaders lead the team in organisation in right direction and give command to
team. Leaders in company improve the performance of employees in effective manner and they
helps in achieving organisation goals and objectives. In Tesco context, the leaders of company
use various leadership styles that is based on demand of any condition and it is important to
ensure that company achieve goals and objectives in effective manner. Leaders communicate
with each employees for better coordination in work (Alam and Raut-Roy, 2019).
Manager: A manager manage every situation in organisation. They control various
departments and functions at workplace and provide guidance to employees who work in their
company. They leading group of people and managers also plan strategies, maintain work, make
planning about production process, make policies and promote the best performance of its
employees and resources within organisation. In Tesco context, managers in this company, they
have various roles and responsibilities and they help to employees in complete work in effective
way. Managers provide training to employees for better improvement.
