Tesco is large size private sector company which based in UK and it is multinational
organisation. It mainly deals in groceries & general merchandise and it's headquarter in Welwyn
Garden City, United Kingdom. Tesco founded by Hackney in 1919 and it's founder is Jack
Cohnen. It is the third largest retail sector entity in the world.
2 Explain departments including role of operations
In the Tesco company there are various department run for the effective work and they
perform their operational functions. It include finance, operations, outbound logistic, HR, IT etc.
Operations: Tesco provide services to their customers, company not producing any
product so in this case Tesco provide their services in term of operational functions for the
business. Such as maintain their stores, provide proper shelves to store goods and maintain shop
opening time. For the expansion of their business they need to identify potential area where
metro and express stores requires.
Outbound logistic: This department have responsibility to deliver products on time to
the consumers. Tesco recently add the home deliver options to enhance their service among the
competitors. Company also improve the other services such as make space for trolley stand,
parking facilities etc. for addition competitive advantage.
HRM (Human Resource Management): This department manage the whole work from

In the Tesco company there are various department run for the effective work and they
