MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONS IN A GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTThe world is flat and the Globalization erasAccording to Friedman, the globalization can be dived into three eras depending on theirindividual characteristics. He identified first phase of globalization as the nations’ interactingwith each other in the period of 1400 to 1800 (Thomas Friedman’s Three Eras of Globalization,2008). He explained that the second phase experienced the higher level of globalization during1800 to 2000. In this period the companies around the world globalised with each other. Hebelieves that these two eras were successful in the globalization as they successfully broughtpeople closer and enhanced the economic activity. However the globalization mostly occurredamong the nations, organizations and groups. In the third phase of globalization, individual’spower increased as they engaged in individual globalizing. The individuals control it by theirown wish only their own interest focused, so it is dangerous (Thomas Friedman’s Three Eras ofGlobalization, 2008). Through this explanation of the third phase of globalization he concluded that the world is nowflat. The people from all over the world interact without any limits and so easily and thesocieties, religious lives, politics, economy and geographical time frame integrated in such a waythat the world has become flat (What Thomas Friedman means when he says “The World isFlat”, 2008). Pankaj Ghemawat presented a different perspective by stating that the world might not be soglobalized as proposed by Friedman. The dynamics that each country offers is different from other countriesso Hofstede suggested parameters cannot be applied to determine a nation’s culture even thoughthe socialization, economy and changed cultural dimensions and peoples’ minds (Ghemawat,2016). Every country has tried to retain their own culture and tradition based dynamics, at thesame time the people are experiencing the globalization creating a mutual space of inetrset andrespect (Piketty & Goldhammer, n.d.). Therefore the wave of globalization could not hamper thenational culture and identity. Indirectly globalization led to increase the value of national cultureby the explosion of norms and cultural values that the globalization caused. However culturalconflicts can arise but globalization is capable of minimizing it through the individual interactionand participates actively in creating a globalized world with more harmony.
