Case Study: Sam’s Termination
The reasons why the company lost the case are as follows:
The company had no proper way to record Sam’s performance and the reviews were not
put into official documents.
The company was unable to provide original documents of the interaction between Sam
and the Human Resource Department.
There was no investigation carried out to find out the actual problems.
There were no records of written warnings against Sam (Davidov & Eshet, 2015). The
company did not have any documents against her.
The company did not keep any track of their training plans or meetings.
The company did not approach Sam formally before terminating her.
There was no documented evidence against Sam for her misbehavior with her supervisor.
The senior managers were absent from the meetings when she was provided feedbacks
for her poor performance thus there were no witnesses.
The company had no written documents to support their case leading to Sam winning the
case of unfair dismissal.
The following steps could have ensured the company winning the case:
The company should have had a written system of performance review and for the
cases related with misbehavior of the employees, proper steps to follow to address
these issues.
During the performance review meetings senior managers should also be present
so that the meetings are supervised and there are witnesses present, so that if such

unfortunate incidents occur then the company can defend itself by providing
written evidence.
The company should have sent written warnings to Sam; these documents would
have proven helpful during the case (Southey, 2015).
A proper investigation of the matter should have been a part of the protocol,
before terminating Sam the company should also have had a proper meeting to
point out the reasons of firing her.
The following steps could have been used to ensure proper termination of Sam:
Written feedbacks provided for her poor performance, if she was still
unable to meet the standards then warning should have been given
(Thompson, 2017).
The next step was to hold a meeting and discuss the problems, and after
then send termination notice formally.
Case Study: Coaching and Mentoring
Coaches and mentors are professionals who provide guidance to the individuals who
require help to sort out their future goals (Serrat, 2017). Mentoring is important for the
individuals to gain insight about the employment opportunities and the ways in which it can help
the individuals to find future prospective. The following are the steps followed by the mentors:
Setting of Goals- Setting goals helps the individuals to develop objectives and to work
towards achieving that (Garvey et al., 2017. Mentors help the individuals to set realistic
