2 INTRODUCTION
The report aims to research how companies use different types of MIS (Management
Information Systems) to perform their routine business operations effectively and efficiently
and to achieve competitive advantages. This report is about Fast Truck Food (FTF) that has
been utilized as a restaurant selling fast food. As FTF is a new business, the organization does
not appropriate premises. In this report, Management Information System which has been
utilized by large and small business organizations have been investigated in order to find out
the best one that can be deployed and utilized by FTF organization.

3.1 MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS)
MIS is a kind of information system which has been utilized by organizations for the
analysis, coordination, visualization, and control of information that can be used for decision
making. In this section, Domino’s (large organization) and “Le Cafe” (small organization)
have been selected in order to investigate how they have been used MIS to perform their
routine business operations.
3.2 HOW DATA IS USED WITHIN ORGANIZATIONS
Domino’s is used customer’s and ordered product data (e.g. pizza ingredients, toppings,
delivery location, side orders, pizza crust, etc.) in order to perform routine operations. From
product order to product delivery process, data has been used by the management. The
organization is used big data-driven MIS to understand their customer’s requirements and
business performance. The management of the organization has processed collected data for
forecasting the demand, calculate order quantity, order period, suggestions of safety stock,
etc. Domino’s has been used PULSE (Franchise office system) for accurate and timely
reporting across all stores (TouchBistro, 2019).
On the other hand, In Le Café organization, data has been recorded, processed and stored by
the staff members when serving customers on a daily basis. Along with this, the organization
also uses data to identify trends, modify current food menu that will suit their changing needs
of customers.

3.4 LEGAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MIS
3.4.1 Legal requirements
FTF organization must maintain the security and privacy of its customers when using
MIS.
The organization should comply with the Federal Privacy Act of 1974 when dealing
with sensitive information of consumers to run business.
The organization should comply with ISO/IEC 27001:2013 for establishing,
maintaining, implementing and continually improving an ISMS.
The organization must comply with the data protection act.
3.4.2 Organizational requirements
Proper alignment with corporate strategy and MIS strategy (Bojmaeh, 2015).
The staff members should be qualified and technical expertise so that they can
perform operations of FTF organization by using the proposed system.
3.5 THE LINKAGE BETWEEN MIS AND COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Management Information System will allow FTF organization to gain a competitive
advantage in eight ways as listed below:

4.1 CHOSEN ORGANIZATION ATHE
ATHE is one of the famous educational institutions which works with 200 recognized
training centers in thirty-five countries (ATHE, 2019). It offers a broad range of internationally
and vocationally oriented qualifications such as healthcare, law, computing, business, and
management, etc. Currently, ATHE organization is using an online portal (Online Learning
Management System) providing exceptional learning services. Students can submit their
registrations forms easily by entering email and password in the online portal. Students,
faculty members, administration staff are the main users of the LMS.

credentials. The Information system allows them to track their scores, registrations,
account details and documents.
The system has been integrated with the website of ATHE organization. The system
users i.e. students, faculty members, and admin can gain access to the system via the
website.
Faculty members are able to perform their routine operations efficiently and quickly
with limited paperwork through MIS (ATHE, 2019).
The faculty members provide grades to the students on the basis of learning outcomes
instead of marks.
In the portal, the links of videos have been included to provide hits to end users about
its functionality.
Students can easily upload assignments from anywhere through the portal via the
internet.
The Management Information System of ATHE is working well as it has the ability to
fulfill key requirements of both organization and learners.
It has the ability to automatically record and convert the data into monthly, weekly
and daily reports.
Students and learners can access study material anytime by using the LMS.
It has been integrated with social media which increases its effectiveness.
4.2.1 Weaknesses of the information system
The existing LMS does not support the complaint management module which results
in students and faculty members have to waste time complaining about a particular
matter.
The existing LMS of ATHE organization is focusing on information delivery instead
of learner engagement and experience.
4.3 RECOMMENDATIONS
It has been recommended to ATHE organization to include complaint management
module in the LMS.
The organization should include more engaging features in LMS such as personal
coaching and support, gamification and personalized learning for offering excellent
educational services to its learners.
