MANAGEMENT INFROMATION SYSTEM
Chapter 6. Databases and Information Management
a. The set-up of the database for recording the business operations for the small auto
service centre would be done as per the relational
VEHICLE (VehicleID, Maker, Model, Year, VehicleType)
CUSTOMER (CustomerID, CustomerName, CustomerContact, Customer Address)
SERVICE ( ServiceID, ServiceDate, CustomerID, VehicleID)
b. VEHICLE (VehicleID, RegistrationNumber, Maker, Model, Year, VehicleType,
CustomerID)
c. After updating the database with the SERVICE_DETAILS the relation schema would
as per the description provided below:
VEHICLE (VehicleID, Maker, Model, Year, VehicleType)
CUSTOMER (CustomerID, CustomerName, CustomerContact, Customer Address)
SERVICE (ServiceID, ServiceDate, CustomerID, VehicleID)
SERVICE_DETAILS (ServiceDetailsID, ServiceID, ServiceType, ServiceStatus,
Payment, PaymentMode)
Chapter 7. Telecommunications
a. Packet switching is used as an advanced process of communication with data in the
network, “information of next and previous parts of packets and other controlled
information are included in packets” which are of different lengths and size. Packet
switching provides an advantage of circuit switching by efficiently making use of the
network. They can easily get among the broken bits of the packets and use the
network more efficiently than the circuit switching technique. The nodes in the
network would be able to communicate with each without making any reservations in
packet switching. However, this is not allowed in the Circuit Switching technique. On

the other hand, Circuit switching is used only for the communication path, which
takes place in the physical form in between the different stations within the network
and this results in bandwidth and wastage of network space in the system. The path is
generally maintained and terminated with the two different nodes in the network.
The three phases of the transmission process-taking place in the network are
establishment of the connection, transferring of data and closing the connection.
Afyer the establishment of the connection in the data transfer layer the connection
which is established provides a constant data flow rate and the nodes in the network
are required to operate at this rate only. Hence, the voice communication takes place
very efficiently in the circuit-switching network.
b. The wireless sensor network consists of various type of sensors in the network that
helps in the interconnection in the network and retrieval of the data that is to be
monitored. Whenever an event is detected in the network, the data related to the event
is sent to the data collection node in the network. This node is known as the
bottleneck in the network and congestion in the network takes place due to the
repeated request and network. Due to this congestion in the network, there might be
events of data loss in the system. Hence, as a remedy two approaches are suggested
for the congestion, control. They are Neutral network Congestion controller and
Traffic Aware Dynamic Routing.
Neural network Congestion controller: The process have three main activities among
which the most important one is the detection of the congestion in the network and the
level of congestion that is taking place in the network. The next activity is detecting
the rate of traffic that is currently flowing through the network. After the first two-
step, the algorithm automatically adjusts the upstream traffic of the network to avoid

the congestions. Finally, the QoS is used in the network to activate the proposed
approach, which would simplify the network largely.
Traffic Aware Dynamic Routing: The TADR algorithm would routing the packets in
and around the network that is congested. The excessive packets are scattered in the
network communication medium along the multiple paths that are idle in the network.
The algorithm makes use of the concept of the constructing a mixed potential field by
making use of the normalized queue length and filed depth so that packets in the
system can be easily steered away from the obstacles created in the network.
Chapter 12. Enhancing Decision Making
Metrics for Business Processes:
Risk management: The risk management process involves the identifications of the
risks in the system and managing them with proper risk mitigation methods identified
that would reducing the risks in the business of the organization. In addition to this,
the mitigation planning is to be made and scheduled so the risk mitigation is
performed appropriately.
Business Monitoring: The organization should be implementing a business
monitoring system for their business that would be checking the defects in the system
continuously and mitigating the defects with an immediate effect.
Metrics for Customers:
Customer engagement: The organization is to develop an efficient communication
plan that would be helpful for the customers to reach out to the organization and
provided feedbacks regarding the business policies.
Target Customers: The organization is required to realise the potential customers for
their products and influence them into buying their products.

Metrics for Employees:
Employee Satisfaction: The organisation should look to satisfy the employees in their
organization by making timely payments and satisfactory appraisal programs.
Employee Payroll processing: The payroll process in the organization would be
structured aptly so that there would be no errors in the payment process.
Chapter 14. Building Information System
a. The United States (US) program management office has nominated two different
prime contracts for successfully developing new army wireless information system.
The Information System (IS) would help to improve the overall application efficiency
with a reduced cost and time. Among the two prime contracts one company is
assigned for software development, tactical vehicle development and the other
contracted company is assigned to design and develop a database management system
to store huge set of information. The authorized users would be able to access
necessary information regardless of time and location through running queries. In
terms of organizational dimension the list of ideas that can be used for resolving the
issues are as follows:
Static organizational norms and regulations: The Army PMO should develop
strategic norms and regulations and all the associates are needed to follow that
regulations and rule. It would help to avoid both inter organizational and intra
organizational conflicts.
Technical training and development: The Company needs to arrange technical
training and development program and all the associates should attend the training
class while required.

Implementation of proper communication: Open communication is referred to as the
best way that can be used for sharing information among all the project associates. It
would help both the company associates to realize project requirements, scope and
other specifications.
Developing proper project timeline and budget: Before initiating the project the
Army PMO needs to estimate and project budget and time. If the time is estimated
primarily, then within a shorter time period database infrastructure development and
project development both is not possible.
Developing proper project quality management plan: Quality management plan is
referred to as the other aspect that is needed to implement the information system
following all data management requirements.
b. It has been determine that database access is one of the core characteristics for current
applications. It seems that at least 80% of all applications are simple database
performance which helps to speed up significant project applications. The software
development company was not interested to use the database system implemented by
the smaller company. Due to this conflict the entire application is halted. In order to
resolve this situation the necessary actions that are to be taken are as follows:
Discussion on resource availability: The Army PMO needs to share information
regarding resource availability to both the companies. It has been identified that, the
large company does not have sufficient resources such as disk space, CPU, memory
etc that are needed to design and develop the database however the smaller company
has all the resources. Therefore, the Army PMO should make the large company
realize that they are not at all prepared to develop the database within the assigned
timeline and budget.

Sharing information about the database infrastructure: The Army PMO needs to
share detail information regarding the database development infrastructure with both
the companies. It would help the large company associates to realize that they do not
possess a supporting database development environment.
Lack of technical experts in the large company: The Army PMO should let both
the companies realize that the numbers technical experts available in the smaller
company are much experienced than the other large company. It would help the large
company to realize the importance of having technical experts for developing the
database system.
Discussion about excessive cost investment: The Army PMO should make the other
companies realize that, if the large company wills to build their own database instead
of using the smaller company’s database them it will require additional time and
money as investment. In order to resolve the issues of over allocation of cost and time
while implementing the wireless information system the large company is suggested
to use the database developed by the smaller company.
