INTRODUCTION
Management and leadership skill refers to the concept of guiding people in the
organization along with motivating them. The current study is based on the concept of
management and leadership skill. The report will perform the reflection of own management and
leadership skills. Furthermore, the report will highlight the major management and leadership
skills that should use by organization in order to achieve higher success in context of TESCO.
MAIN BODY
1) Reflection
Management and leadership skills plays crucial role in shaping personal and professional
character. These skills add glory in the behaviour and working pattern of an individual. Thus, It
is important to acquire and adopt effective management and leadership skills. I have faced
numerous experience that has provided me opportunities of showing my own management and
leadership skill. Often, many-times due to less skills in this context I have faced large number of
difficulties and when I faced all those barriers then I realized that, it is highly important to adopt
skills related to management and leadership. Management and leadership skills itself is a
collection of numerous skills, Thus, in my higher studies I got the various opportunities where I
can develop my these skills. For reflecting upon my own management of management and
leadership skills the Gibb's reflective cycle has used by me as it has been considered one of the
best reflective cycle and with the help of this, positive and negative experience can be evaluated
in easily manner. This reflective cycle is consists of six main stage and that is, Description,
feeling, evaluation, Analysation, conclusion and action plan (Adeani, Febriani and Syafryadin,
2020).
Description phase in relation of reflecting my experience related to management and
leadership skill is concerned with the experience of group task that has been assigned to me and
my mates. In that group task I got the opportunity to show my management and leadership skills.
Also, I got to know that still there are major area of improvement that are required for
developing in the context gaining leadership skills. Although, manager and leader perform
different roles however, their skills are same that makes the contribution in completion of any
task in effective manner. In same manner, I got the chance to show my skills. In the group task
we are total number of four members that has assigned the task. I got the opportunity to lead the
group members. Coming towards the feeling stage of cycle, I had experience numerous feelings

while acting as a leader for the group. One of the member in the group was not punctual and
always having issues regarding all the things. However, it was creating disturbance to other
group member as well. Two of the members was highly punctual and conscious about their
work. The coordination among the group members was missing. Often, I try to communicate
with the member who was not being punctual. My conversation with him has changed into
conflict. He was not listening to me and making complain about every thing. This has made me
feel low as I had a thought in my mind that I cannot become a good leader. However, when I
communicated with the other members they felt good. Also, they got the source of motivation
from me. At that time, my confidence level has been increased.
So, the feeling throughout the experience was the mixture of positive and negative
experience. As I have to complete my group task and responsibility was on me. Therefore, I
made again communication with all members this time I try to listen to that member of group
with whom I had conflict. When I listened to him then, I got to know from his point of view that,
he is right as he is not able to prepare diagrams and I assigned this task to him. This time, I teach
him how to perform his work and this results in establishing effective understanding among us.
In the evaluation, it has been found out that, it is important to understand perspective of each
member. For a moment it seems that the member is completely wrong. However, there are large
number of reason behind this that makes the person to behave in such manner. Thus, I realised,
that being a leader is not easy it requires high amount of courage in terms of listening and
understanding the problems of the members of group.
Tuckman's model of group development that is comprises with five stages that is
Forming, storming, norming, performing and Adjourning is comprised with developing the team
with maturity and ability and creating effective interaction among member within adopting
effective leadership style (Donald and Carter, 2020). Thus, in similar manner, while analysing
the experience I had a thought that it is highly important to adopt and effective leadership style
that makes contribution in management and leadership skills. So, the effective understanding
among the group members can be established and motivation to the members can be assured.
Transactional leadership theory is based on the concept that involves members in decision-
making as well and assure them motivation. I decided to adopt this particular style in terms of
gaining the effective skills of leadership and management. Often, the final conclusion that has
been arrived from my experience is taking me towards learning all management and leader

mandatory skills that makes contribution in becoming effective leader. So, I can become
effective leader in-future. As it will provide impact over my personal and professional
development as well. Thus, I decided to create effective action plan on the basis of my
experience. My action plan is consist of focusing over the major area of improvements that are
required in order to become effective leader as my experience has made me aware about the
importance of being calm while leading the group so, the conflicts can be managed. Thus, I have
decided to change my weaknesses into strengths and more of the learning has to be made my me
in context of becoming an effective leader in-future. The major skills that I decided to adopt in
my action plan are mentioned in my personal development plan that is mentioned below:

Supportive communication
Supportive communication refers to the support given to the communication in form of
verbal and non-verbal communication in the organization. Supportive communication skill has
been considered as transferable skill that can be used in numerous roles and occupations. The
major motive of this skill is to increase interaction with employees in organization. Verbal form
of communication refers to the form of communication that is concerned with having discussion
with employees. On the other hand, non-verbal form of communication refers to the form of

communication that is consists with using effective gesture and posture while interacting with
employees and workers (Van der Molen and Gramsbergen-Hoogland, 2018). It is highly
mandatory that a leader must have this sill in order to establish effective interaction with the
employees. TESCO is one of the leading firm that perform its operations in retail sector. It has
been found from various studies that, TESCO has large number of employees that are
contributing in the success of company.
For gaining more success and ensuring effective relationship with the employees the
company must adopt supportive communication skill. The Shannon Weaver model of
communication states that, human communication can be parted in six ways in terms of
establishing effective communication and that is, sender, encoder, channel, noise, decoder and
receiver (Aslam and et.al., 2018). TESCO must implement this model in order to perform
effective supportive communication skill. Within apply this the company performs the concept
that involves in sending phase, the message that has to sent to employees has been decided and
then, the message has been encoded to hem within selecting appropriate channel that can include
face to face communication or other form. Afterwards, any barriers that are coming in the
process of communication has been solved with mitigating the noise in communication. This is
the duty of manager and leader that have to identify the issues. Finally, after mitigating barriers
the message has been decoded and receive by the receiver. Here, receiver is referred to the
employees. Thus, within adopting this way, TESCO can implement the effective flow of verbal
and non-verbal communication in company. As a result, the organization efficiently achieve their
goals as the discussion among employees takes place in effective manner.
Motivation
Motivation is the key source that drives the performance level of employees in
organization. Therefore, it is highly important, that organization must perform the techniques of
motivation as this has been determined as that transferable skills that can be use any time in
company and assures effective outcomes as well. TESCO must implement the effective strategy
of motivation within adopting the Theory of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. This has been
considered as one of the best concept for assuring motivation to the employees and full-filling
their need. It involves focusing over the five major needs of employees and that is, Physiological
needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs and self-actualization needs. Assuring all these

needs to employees results in adopting effective motivation skills (Schulte, 2018). In
Physiological needs, TESCO must assure focus over the necessities of employees such as, house,
clothing and so on. This can be done by providing job security to employees. In context of safety
needs, organization has to create a sense of belongingness in employees that they are part of
organization. This can be done by giving all employees equal opportunities.
Subordinates and workers has a desire in terms of having effective interaction with the
members at the workplace. Thus, in term of maintaining this need of employees TESCO should
focus over organizing parties and get together where employees get opportunity for making
interaction with each other. Esteem need refers to having higher self-confidence. Employees
must get chance to show their talent and creativity often training session has to be organized for
employees where they can learn new things. TESCO must assure opportunities to employees for
showing their creativity within providing training. Last need is the mixture of all needs. When all
needs have been full-fill it automatically leads to complete the need of self-actualization in
employees. Thus, in this way TESCO can perform motivation skill and ensure higher motivation
to the employees.
Empowerment
Empowerment refers to controlling the pattern of work in working environment and
empowerment skill refers to having effective approaches of controlling work procedure in work
environment so, the employees doubts can be solved and effective working environment can be
established. Empowerment is directly linked with the self-strength concept. It enables the
employees to have a sense of self-strength that boost them up to perform in effective manner.
Empowerment Theory that has been developed by Julian Rappaport in 1981 suggest that,
empowerment in concerned with the ways or methods that has been used for assuring guidance
to people in order to achieve sense of control (Jocelyne and Kariuki, 2020). In similar manner,
empowerment in organization leads to direct employees the ways in which they can achieve
higher sense of control. Achieving self-control leads to assure higher self-strength. Therefore, it
is highly mandatory to take employees in that particular direction where they can have self-
control.
TESCO can perform empowerment skill within providing mandatory information
regarding increasing self-efficiency of working so, employees can increase their productivity.

Furthermore, all the employees must involve in decision-making process as this leads to create
their confidence. Motivation is directly linked with empowerment. The major attributes of
motivation often support in empowering employees in company (Kharadze, N., 2021).
Therefore, TESCO must focus on reward system and appreciation should be given to the
employees. As a result, workers and employees feels highly motivated and sense of higher self-
strength has been developed in them. Also, the employees focus on making effective
contribution in their working pattern. Thus, using effective empowerment skills leads to
empowering employees in organization and develop their inner strength of working. Also, the
working pattern of TESCO can be shaped in effective manner within adopting empowerment
transferable skills.
Conflict management
Conflict management refers to the ways of reducing conflicts and crisis in organization.
As TESCO has large number of employees working in organization. At a point of time all of
these employees has different set of thinking that leads to create number of conflicts among
employees. Thus, it is highly important to manage the conflict among employees as this affects
the relationship among members in organization. Modern theory of conflict management is
concerned with the social system that guides that organization has been developed with the
combination of interaction that has been established among members (LUTSENKO and et.al.,
2018). Therefore, it is mandatory to make a focus over enhancing organizational structure. This
can be assured within performing concept of conflict management.
TESCO must focus over four parameters in terms of performing conflict management
and that is creating effective working environment that can be adopted by everyone in
organization, guiding members to attain goals, maintaining entity and managing motivational
culture in organization. These are major attributes that leads to decrease level of conflicts in
organization (Al-Omari Alomari, and Aljawarneh, 2020). Also, mentoring and counselling of
employees also plays vital role in management of issues and conflicts in organization. Thus,
TESCO must makes major focus over enhancing organizational culture that helps in establishing
effective understanding among employees and assures less or no conflicts in organization.

Team effectiveness refers to development of team working scenario in organization. In
TESCO, there are large number of employees working in different department however, the
main goal of all the members is same and that is assuring higher benefit to organization.
Therefore, it is highly important to establish a team working criteria in organization that can
develop effective coordination among all members in the company and assures higher growth to
organization. TESCO can ensure team management development in company within adopting
Tuckman's team development theory. This concept has been considered as one of the best
concept in developing team effectiveness in organization. This theory has been parted in five
steps and that is, Forming, storming, norming, performing and adjouring (Peralta and et.al.,
2018). In forming stage TESCO must focus over forming the major goals and communicating it
with all the members in the team so, they can understand the major gaols.
In storming stage the most appropriate leader who is consists of numerous transferable
skills has to be appointed as a group leader. So, the effective guidance to the group members can
be assured. In norming stage, roles and responsibilities needs to be assigned to employees on the
basis of their talent, skill and creativity. The clearance in roles and responsibilities helps in
reducing number of conflicts. Performing stage tends to develop motivation and confidence in
employees as here, the major work has been performed and leader should make consistent
discussion regarding the doubts of employees. Last stage that is Adjouring is concerned with the
mutual beliefs and faith of employees as after the completion of task the team gets abandoned.
However, during the task the interaction has been made among group members as a result, this
leads to create s sense in them in term of working again in team (Ryu and Shim, 2020). Thus,
within applying this team development technique TESCO can perform effective group skills and
the efficient team management that takes towards the completion of final goal can be established
in organization.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that, management and leadership skills plays
vital role in encouraging personal and professional development. Also, the report has highlighted
the major transferable skills that assures the growth and success in organization.
