Task 1:
Defining and discussing concepts about the general environment of an organization
It can be mentioned that the general environment of an organization is a set of factors
or the forces outside the organization which influence the performance and operation of the
business. Rice (2013) mentioned that the general environment is compared to organization’s
task environment, the effect of these dimension could be less; this means there are some other
key dimension of the environment that remain upon the institution includes economic
context, technology, political, economic and other global context . When it comes to political
and legal forces, Babatunde and Adebisi (2012) mentioned that political and legal forces are
the outcome of the change in law and regulations. So, it can be stated that political processes
could shape society’s law and this must contain the activities of organization. Consequently,
this could create the opportunities and threats.
Authors of the study have also given an example that throughout much of the
industrialized world about last 20 years, notably a strong trend toward deregulation of
industries as well as privatization of organization has been observed which is owned by state.
Another significant scenario found in a journal article performed by Haan (2013), which
indicates that the airline sector in 1979 enabled 29 new airlines to get into the industry
between 1979 and 1993. Consequently, the increase in passenger carrying after deregulation
led to excess capacity on several routes, intense competition as well as fare wars. So, here the
interplay between political as well as legal forces and the sector competitive forces is a two
way technique in which the government of the nation can set the regulation to influence the
competitive structure (Rice 2013). The organization in an industry often make attempts to
influence regulations that government passes. Thus, Ibrahim and Primiana (2015) mentioned
that managers of the organization should consider all elements of general environment as per

the strategy which could lead and control all operation. On the other side, Baker (2012) added
the fact that particularly in the economic dimension, organizational analysis must focus on
economic system which certainly influences the type of project which is being considered to
be undertaken. It should be noted that economic dimension tends to consist of some factors
which could influence the purchasing power as well as spending patterns of customers and it
could reflect global financial conditions. When this factor is studied precisely, some
particular variables in the economy have come into the consideration and awareness of
marketers. For example, some major concern of the organization are variables including the
rate of interest, inflation, unemployment, internal regulation, bureaucracy and the rate of
exchange (Horbach, Rammer and Rennings 2012). So, when it comes to the general
environment of an organization, it must be considered that changes in the major economic
might have a long and depth impact on marketplace and enhanced economic conditions could
usually create an increased demand for products and services, which could simulate
additional opportunities for the organizational growth.
Analyzing and evaluating the impact of technology on the general environment of
Scentre Group
There is no doubt that over the last century, undoubtedly, the pace of technology has
excelled rapidly and this has unleashed a technique which has been known as gale of creative
destruction. Thus, it can be added that technology spearheads Scentre Group’s retail
transformation. Volberda et al. (2012) mentioned that when it come to the impact of the
technology on firm’s operation, it is noted that Scentre Group’s decision to merge the finance
and technology leadership function into a single role certainly brought IT little closure to the
wider business and makes sure that Information technology is more effectively aligned to the
state of the firm. Firm has developed its long-term goal in which Scentre Group has to
provide its employees with instant, anytime-anywhere access to information and tool to
