1MANAGEMENT Perspectives on global leadership Leadership can be viewed from multiple perspectives when placed in a global context. Amongst a good number of approaches three major approaches used for analysing global leadership, namely the universal approach, contingency approach and Normative approach associated with global leadership have been discussed bellow. According to the universal approach of leadership, efficient global leader possess similar traits, skills as well as behaviour irrespectiveoftheirworkplace(BirdandMendenhall2016).Howeveraccordingtothe contingency approach of leadership, leader should not demonstrate similar leadership tactics and skills in different scenarios since what works for one situation may not work for the other. The situational theory of leadership emphasis the fact that leaders needs to adjust their style on the basis of the nature of their task as well as the needs of their followers (Rosenbach 2018). When it comes to the Normative approach of leadership, this perspective suggest that leaders providing leadership in the global contexts requires to learn specific set of skill that differ from traditional leadership. According to the theory, the fluidity, complexity as well as ambiguity of the international business impose specific pressure on leaders and for overcoming the same unique skills, attitude, mindset and knowledge is needed. In the organization, I have worked in, the manager of the organization used to follow situational leadership. I had evidenced how different situations can be tackled by implementing different types of techniques. For instance for minimizing conflict within the organization he used to implement transformational leadership. However, during emergency situation, he used to practice autocratic leadership.
