This report discusses the tools and techniques used to motivate employees, theories of motivation, strategies to overcome conflicts in teams, and suitable leadership approaches to overcome issues of lower job retention rates and lack of communication in the workplace. The report focuses on a fast food company in the UK, XY, which is going to merge with Z for reducing the problems of leadership and management.

INTRODUCTION
The report is based on management in which different tools and techniques are determined
in order to motivate employees and teams it also includes different theories of motivation by
applying to the organisation (Koster, 2017). In this project, the strategies are also discussed in
order to overcome the conflicts in teams and also the leadership approach which is required to
overcome the issues of lower job retention rates and lack of communication. The chosen fast
food company in UK is XY which is going to merge with Z for reducing the problems of
leadership and management.
TASK
Tools and techniques used to motivate employees and determine two theories of motivation by
applying to the organisation’s circumstances
Motivation is a process of guiding, maintaining and initiating the goal oriented behaviour. It
generally includes emotional, cognitive, emotional and biological forces that activate behaviour.
There are various tools and techniques through which XYZ can motivate their employees in
order to achieve the goals and objectives of business such as promoting employees, offering
bonus, career growth, ask for employee input, scheduling team building activities, showing
appreciation and celebrating results. Through these tools and techniques, XYZ can increase the
motivation level of its employees due to which they can give productive outcomes in achieving
the business goals and objectives.
Promoting employees is one of the tool and technique through which organisation can
increase the morale and motivation level of staff. It is important for company to focus on
promoting their staff on the basis of their work and performance so that they can achieve their
target in effective and efficient manner.
Showing appreciation is also a tool and technique of motivation through which XYZ can
enhance the motivation level of their staff. Organisation must focus on showing appreciation to
their staff in order to improve their performance and efficiency (Taheri, Motealleh and Younesi,
2021). Employees generally get motivated when manager show appreciation towards the work of
employees.
Performance bonus is also a tool which can be used by XYZ in order to increase the
motivation and morale of employees. XYZ must focus on offering bonus to their employees on

the basis of their performance. It also helps in increasing the productivity of staff due to which
they can meet their overall objective. Through performance bonus, company can raise their
performance to meet the business goals.
Motivation theory helps in understanding what drives employees to work towards
particular goals. The theories of motivation which can be applied by XYZ in order to motivate
the employees are Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs and Herzberg’s two factors theory.
Maslow’s Hierarchy Theory
Maslow’s Hierarchy theory is one of the motivational theories which represent the need
through pyramid. Employees can move on to addressing the higher level needs when their basic
needs are fulfilled.
Physiological needs:
Physiological needs are a basic need which generally includes things that are important
for survival such as food, shelter, water and breathing. While working in XYZ, employees
generally requires access to various services and opportunities that makes them feel that their
basic needs are fulfilled. It is the responsibility of XYZ company to provide drinking water
facility, comfortable working environment and breaks to eat meals.
Safety needs:
It is another need of employees that influence the overall satisfaction within workplace.
In safety and security needs, employees generally demand safety of their job due to they can
contribute their bets efforts in accomplishing the goals and objective of business. XYZ must
offer safe working environment by providing ergonomic office furniture that reduces the risk of
injury.
Love and belonging needs:
It is important for XYZ organisation to create sense of belongings in order to engage
workers in work and make them motivated to succeed in achieving the task. XYZ must focus on
organising social activities that helps in building relationship between employees and managers.
Esteem needs:
Esteem needs generally represents the beliefs that employees are contributing their best
level in order to achieve higher goals (Reizer, Brender-Ilan and Sheaffer, 2019). It is necessary
for XYZ organisation to make their employees feel that they are growing, achieving results and
advancing due to which they recognize the outcome.

Self actualization needs:
In self actualization needs, employees feel that they are doing their best in their position
due to which they feel motivated while working in organisation.
Herzberg’s two factors theory
Herzberg theory generally includes two categories such as motivation factors and hygiene
factors. The hygiene factors in organization generally includes pay, benefits job security and
work conditions. Through these elements, XYZ Company can improve the motivation level of
employees and also helps in reducing conflicts among staff. The motivational factor of theory
mainly includes recognition, autonomy and meaningful work (Ozyilmaz, Erdogan and
Karaeminogullari, 2018). These factors also help in boosting the motivation level of staff and
solving the issues within workplace. In order to boost the motivational level of employees it is
important for XYZ company to gives employees more autonomy, provide feedback and take
macro view of employee welfare.
Strategies to overcome the conflicts in teams
Conflicts within team create a negative working environment due to which employees
cannot work with dedication and concentration. It also influences the profitability and growth of
business. Conflicts also decrease the productivity of employees that reduces their performance
and efficiency level. If there is conflict in workplace, it makes difficult for employees to achieve
the common goals and objectives of business which influence the profitability and growth of
XYZ. Thus, it is important for XYZ to focus on reducing the conflicts and develop positive
working environment that satisfies the needs and demand of staff (Volk, 2016). There are various
strategies to overcome the conflicts in teams that help in maintaining the positive and healthy
working environment in XYZ Company.
Focus on the behaviour of employees:
It is important for XYZ organisation to focus on the behaviour of employees while
interacting and talking. Through understanding the behaviour of staff, manager can analyze the
real situation and work on resolving the issues (Deschamps and et. al., 2016).
Listen actively:
It is the responsibility of manager to listen the perspective of both the parties in order to
take appropriate solution. Manager must focus on hearing the arguments of employees so that
they can analyze the conflict and take corrective action in order to solve the conflict.

Provide guidance:
It is another strategy which must be used by XYZ in order to reduce the conflicts within
workplace. Manager is responsible to provide guidance to employees so that they can resolve the
issues and focus on working in effective and efficient manner. Conflict in organisation creates
negative environment due to which employees don’t contribute their bets efforts in
accomplishing the business goals and objectives (Suwanphiched and Phusavat, 2021).
Continue to monitor and follow-up on conflict:
Manager of XYZ must focus on continuing to monitor the negative environment within
workplace so that they can identify the conflict and work on resolving the issues in order to
maintain the decorum of organization and create positive working environment.
Suitable leadership approach to overcome the issues of lower job retention rates and lack of
communication
The suitable leadership approach which must be implemented by XYZ in order to overcome
the issues of lower job retention rates and lack of communication is participative leadership
approach. By implementing participative leadership approach, company encourages their
employees to participate in overall business activities and give their contribution for improving
the business performance and efficiency. Participation leadership approach helps in improving
the morale and motivation level of employees due to which they give productive outcomes in
achieving the business goals and objectives. It is one of the effective leadership approaches that
continues to flow effective communication within employees due to which no conflicts arises in
workplace (Ryu and Moon, 2019). Employees also feel valuable in organisation which lowers
the job retention rates and also reduces the lack of communication. Participative leadership
approach also helps in encouraging collaboration which reduces lack of communication and
facilitates free flow of ideas. It helps in improving the morale of employees due to which they
contribute productive results. The team members also feel valuable and in control which makes
them to perform better and committed towards achieving the goals and objectives of XYZ.
The other leadership approach which must be implemented by XYZ in its workplace is
transformational leadership approach. By implementing this approach, company encourages,
motivates and inspires their employees to create change and bring innovation that helps in
shaping the future and growth of business. Transformational leadership approach helps in
lowering staff turnover by making them feel included and engaged in workplace. This approach

also has an ability to spot the gaps and problems in a vision and focus on making the changes in
order to solve the issues quickly (Van Yperen, 2017).
CONCLUSION
It is being concluded from the above information that motivation plays a vital role in
improving the performance and efficiency of employees. It is the responsibility of organisation to
boost the morale and motivation level of their employees in order to enhance the productivity
and growth of business. There are mainly two types of motivation such as extrinsic motivation
and intrinsic motivation. Motivation generally helps in improving the efficiency of people as
they work towards the goals and also it encourage people to engage in health oriented behaviors.
