Leadership Philosophy
“To lead successfully, Personal Leadership Philosophy is the Key”
Introduction
Leadership represents both good and bad in an individual. When I look up at the term
leadership, I think of the helpful people around. It is essential to have my own values and beliefs
before becoming a leader. The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon myself in terms of values,
my leadership style and principles. In the first section of this paper, the goals for organization are
identified. Further, my leadership principles are listed that would help me in decision making and
overcoming challenges.
Goals for the Organization
The goals to establish a leadership philosophy is to build a foundation so that I can take
my leadership forward with it. The three main goals of drafting leadership philosophy are:
Building a strong character, creating consistency and collaboration.
Drafting leadership philosophy will provide focus and clarity in my character. Character
shall influence my everyday decision making and communication with others. I intend to become
better at controlling my behaviour and strengthening qualities of a successful leader.
Another goal of crafting leadership philosophy is consistency. I need to create more
consistency in my behaviour and actions. My leadership philosophy is defined by sustainability
where I need to evaluate the options if it shall enhance or cause a hindrance.
Finally, leadership philosophy shall aim to create collaboration. I can’t expect the
followers to voluntarily follow me without teamwork and understanding. By defining my
leadership philosophy, I shall enhance my chance of a more meaningful collaboration.

Leadership Principles
a. Team Building- I believe in the phrase ‘One Team, One Goal’. Team building helps in
bringing the people together for future progress. Team building enhances productivity
and can keep the people motivated. I also intend to develop problem solving skills
through team building activities.
b. Creating a culture of excellence- As a leader, I shall instil into the culture of quality of
work and level of standards. I would try to drive out high standards and substandard
results shall not be acceptable. However, I shall not terminate a person under my
leadership for low efficiency.
c. Maintain tranquillity and confidence- It is important to maintain your confidence so that
the people following me can confide in me. I shall make decisions with confidence as
well as tranquillity. Tranquillity shall help in preventing non-evidence based influences
as a hindrance in my decision making.
d. Developing relationship with followers- I believe that a leader must support his
followers. I shall simply go around and check upon the ways the followers are
accomplishing the task. Being supportive shall add an additional layer of loyalty and
achieving the team objectives.
e. Resource Management- Resource management requires transparency and thorough
understanding in an organization. Resource management involves pre-planning and
allocating the resources for maximizing efficiency. I shall plan to use the resources so
that there is no over-allocation of resources. I would try to maximize efficiency by
effectively measuring Return of Interest.

f. Moral Courage- Moral courage can be defined as the strength to use ethical principles
and doing the right thing even if it includes personal loss. Moral courage is what sets an
organization and the members apart.
g. Having a long-term vision- I believe that as a leader one must satisfy his short-term
objectives while straying from the long-term objectives. I shall communicate the long-
term vision to my fellow employees so that they understand the big picture. It shall also
help them in staying loyal.
h. Be a facilitator- As a leader, I shall always be working in team environments where an
allegiance is necessary. I shall always try to be a facilitator or a solution finder who gets
to bring people together and devise solutions.
i. Follow values- I find it imperative to follow values like duty, respect, loyalty and
integrity. A selfless leader must consider the effect of every decision made by him. The
opinions and views of the fellow members shall always be appreciated and encouraged.
Summary
I believe that leadership is a privilege to inspire others and attain the goals of the
organization. I would welcome opportunities that would come in my way to pursue a career in
social work. I wish to encourage creativity and innovation among my employees so that they are
proud of their contribution. Understanding and application of leadership principles is critical as it
is directly linked with success of an organization.
