Subject: Residing in Vernon and prospective employers in the city.
Migration and relocation to a new city is not simple and the common notion that all provinces
are alike is imprudent. However, I recently moved to the Canadian city of Vernon.
The Vernon City
Vernon city is located in the Okanagan region of British Colombia. Vernon city was
incorporated in 1892 and is named after Forbes George Vernon who was a British MLA and
was responsible for the development of the British Colombian Region. According to the 2013
census, Vernon city has a total population of 40,000 (Henderson, et al. 2017). It is the largest
city in the North Okanagan Regional District. The city has 1,290 (3.3%) First Nations
individual living and the local government has strict federal rules to respect and recognize
their cultural diversity (www12.statcan.gc.ca , 2019). Therefore as a resident of Vernon city,
I am also abiding to follow the rules and respect their culture.

the city. The Vernon City is the economic corridor of the North Okanagan serving 100,000
population of the region. The city is surrounded by three lakes with a humid continental
climate; as a result, it attracts a lot of tourists and residents across the country. It is situated
between Vancouver and Calgary cities; therefore, the tourism industry is rising in the city.
However, traditionally Vernon’s economy largely depended on agriculture and related
industries but it has seen the drastic change in recent years. The gradual increase in the
construction industry, travel and tourism and manufacturing industries has seen a shift in the
economic activities (www.vernon.ca, 2019). The development of excellent air, rail and road
networks in Vernon has facilitated in the development of various industries. The Kelowna
International Airport is just 25kms away from the Vernon city which has direct flights to
major Canadian and USA airports. The city has a lot of opportunities for business and
economic development as the local government of the city is poised from the development of
the overall economic and community development.
The local Government of Vernon City encourages youths to reside in the city and help in
improving the economy by starting their careers in various sectors.
