Introduction
The increase in the impact of globalisation and the technology has revolutionised the scenario of
the business market. The business market is now emphasising in the world of competition where
one organisation is trying to become superior to another. The following assignment focuses on
the management o human resource in the organisation namely Virgin Media. It comprises of the
several strategies and theories that are to be taken up by the organisation so that the employee
satisfaction and employee motivation could be formulated in the organisation. It further deals
with the recruitment process that would help the organisation in recruiting the best possible
employees so that the organisation could be benefitted from the work that would be done by the
employees in the work sector. Along with that, it further concentrates on the differences between
the personal management and the human resource management (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014).
It is witnessed in the assignment that the organisation runs in a successful manner with the help
of its human resources. Therefore, it could be said that human resources plays the major role in
running the business of the organisation. Hence, proper management practices are required to be
adopted by the organisation so that proper management of the human resource is formulated in
the respected organisation. Together with that, detailed description regarding the cessation of the
employment is also taken into consideration that would help the organisation in retaining its
employees in the organisation by providing them with proper training to match the quality
working of the other employees (Storey, 2014).

Understanding the difference between the personal and human resource management
1.1 Differentiating between personnel management and human resource management
Human resource management refers to the management that is concerned with the working of the
employees in the organisation. It is believed that the organisation could work in a successful
manner with the help of the loyal employees. They put their potential effort on their task
therefore, it is very necessary to keep up with the employees in the organisation so that the
employees would work in an effective manner thereby providing a good source of income for the
respected organisation. Thus, it could be said that the management of the employees in the
organisation thereby providing a support to the working of the employees and taking care of their
needs. It is with this manner the employees would be satisfied with the organisation and would
help the organisation in gaining the success in its business (Sparrow, Brewster and Chung,
2016).
On the other hand, it is believed that human resource management is regarded as the function of
every manager of the respected organisation. It is because, the planning, the taking care of the
employees and their wants thereby making them feel comfortable are the deeds of the managers.
Thus, the managers play the core responsibility in the management of the human resource in the
respected firm. The personal management refers to the management that is concerned with the
system of maximising the number of employees in the organisation. Thereby analysing the job
that is performed by the employees, recruitment of the employees in the organisation. The
planning of the personnel needs follows that, determine the salaries and the wages of the
employees working in the organisation. The amount of compensation and the incentives that are
provided to the workers working in the firm (Jackson, Schuler and Jiang, 2014).
Therefore, it could be said that the management of the human resource further helps in the
building of the business. It is due to this fact the organisation tends to adopt several policies and
schemes that would help the company to keep their management at a top level to satisfy the
employees who are working with the organisations. On the other hand, the employees further

gain the opportunity to build a better growth in the future. For example, in the virgin media the
organisation tends to manage their human resource by providing the employees with the basic
needs and keeping them satisfied to work in an effective manner. On the other hand, in Harrods,
the management strictly follows the discrimination act, the equal pay act, and data protection act.
This further enables the organisation in keeping their employees satisfied to build up a good
relation with the employees of the organisation (Budhwar and Debrah, 2013).
1.2. Assessing human resource management functions help virgin media
When considering the human resource management, the HRM contributes several functions that
help the respected organisation in gaining the functional capability to work in a potential manner.
Therefore, functions like recruitment, training, development and improving the performance of
the employees are some of the functions that are carried on by the organisation. In the
recruitment and selection process, the description of the job along with the responsibilities that
the employee needs to perform in the job sector, the role of the job all is discussed. It is with
proper analysis and selection procedure the selection of the candidates are taken into
consideration by the respected organisation namely virgin Media (Alfes, Shantz, Truss and
Soane, 2013).
On the other hand, the training process further helps to build the confidence among the
employees of the firm that would initiate the organisation in obtaining the quality result of
outcome. Moreover, the employees would get the opportunity to train their ability and would
build the capability to work in a more effective manner. This would further help the organisation
in receiving a good work from the workers of the organisation. Along with that, the organisation
would also be benefited with the skilled and creative employees such that proper decisions would
be easy to take in the job sector. This would further enable the organisation in the development
of the appropriate employee having skilled ability to work with more potential such that the
organisation could be benefitted with the maximisation of competitive advantages. On the other
hand, this would also curtail the organisation in receiving the brand name in the market thereby
building a food reputation in the market (Renwick, Redman and Maguire, 2013).

followed in an appropriate manner it would cause the organisation in maintaining the employees
in the correct manner and obtains a quality work function from the workers of the organisation.
Thus, it is witnessed that the respected organisation has a very fair and good recruitment policy
for the employees thereby preferring skilled and talented employees without keeping any
discrimination about their religion and other actions. On the other hand, the organisation further
posses’ good trainers in the premises that enables to provide effective training to the employees
in the work place (Kehoe and Wright, 2013).
1.3. Evaluating the role and responsibilities of line managers in virgin media
The roles and the responsibility of the line managers of an organisation matters the most for the
organisation to get access to a successful business. Therefore, it is with the appropriate
maintenance of the role and the responsibility of the line managers the organisation is benefitted
with the maximum competitive advantage. Moreover, there are certain responsibilities that are
carried on by the line managers such as in the management of the employees and the working of
the departments in the organisation. Thus, it is clear from this, that the line mangers needs to be
sincere, dutiful having the appropriate knowledge to deal with the problems and the issues that
arises in the workplace and be honest towards the work that is performed by them (Kramar,
2014).
In the organisation virgin Media proper management system is practiced it is due to this reason
the organisation has a good name in the market. Therefore, the brand name of the service along
with the quality service that it provides to its customers has helped the organisation to gain the
reputation in the market. Together with this, the proper management and the appropriate roles
and the responsibility that is performed by the line manager of the organisation further cause the
organisation to gain the respect in the market. It is seen that the line managers carry out their
duty in an appropriate manner thereby supervising its subordinates in a proper manners. This
further enables the organisation to work in an effective manner and obtain the best result possible
for the growth opportunity of its future. On the other hand, the line managers are very
responsible and are capable enough to solve the problems that arise in the organisation. This

The regulatory framework plays the major role in letting the business organisation gains its
capability to attain the ladder of success in the market. It is witnessed that the respected
organisation virgin media is very sensitive in relation to the legal framework. The organisation
operates its duty and the functions abide by the rules and the regulations that the law permit it to
follow. The organisation keeps a check on the acts that are perfectly followed by the organisation
so that there is no problem to occur in the future (Knowles, 2014).
Moreover, the organisation keeps a note on the legal and the ethical factors that are followed by
the organisation regarding the act of labour discrimination, the relation of the labours, the rights
of the labours and so on. Moreover, it also sees to the work environment of the employees. It

Human resource planning is regarded as the main factor that helps the organisation in gaining the
possible opportunity to increase its liability in the market. Along with that, a good planning
further postulates the organisation in achieving the growth opportunity for the future. Therefore,
it could be said that the appropriate planning is required to be accessed by the organisation in
their management processes so that it could build the success in the business that is operated by
the organisation. On the other hand, without proper planning any activities could be performed at
its best. It is witnessed that due to the lack of planning being facilitated by the respected
organisation it is experiencing the problem of employee retention (Knowles, 2014).
The employees are not properly interviewed during their recruitment therefore; the organisation
is reluctant to get hold of skilled and capable employees to work in the job sector. Therefore, it is
very necessary for an organisation to have a good planning so that it could benefit the working of
the organisation and help the organisation in getting an access to the maximum competitive
advantage. Thus, the human resource planning would help the respected organisation virgin
media to manage its human resource in an effective manner. Hence, the organisation is required
to exhibit proper planning process that would help the organisation in gaining the benefit of its
working and get access to the future opportunity in very less time (Ariss, Cascio and Paauwe,
2014).
2.2 Outlining the stages involved in planning human resource requirements
The planning that is required in the human resource requirements is the appropriate method of
recruitment and training the employees. It is with the appropriate requirement process being
followed by the organisation, the organisation would be able to recruit the skilled and qualified
employees. On the other hand, the organisation also needs to keep it a check that the capability
of the employees is tested so that in the right department the recruitment could be made. On the

organisation. Along with that, the organisation would also be benefited with the skilled and
creative employees such that proper decisions would be easy to take in the job sector. Moreover,
it could b further be said that it is with the correct recruitment and training of the employees in
the organisation the organisation would be benefitted with the maximisation of the competitive
advantage that would further add to the reputation of the firm in the market. The more the firm
build its status in the market, the value of outcome and getting access to the reliable customers
would be in the hands of the organisation. It is witnessed that the organisation has a good name
in the market therefore to keep up the status, the organisation needs to adopt proper steps in the
recruitment process so that it is able to select the capable employees for its working in the office.
Virgin media follows two steps in the recruitment of its employees that is by selecting the
employee through their resume and then that is followed by the interview (Nickson, 2013).
2.3 Comparing the current recruitment and selection process in the organisation
Different organisation follows different methods of recruitment and selection of the employees.
It is the appropriate method of selection of the employees that helps the organisation in gaining
the success in the market for its future growth to be attained. It is witnessed that the respected
organisation virgin media tends to follow the recruitment procedure in two steps. The first is the
selection of the resume of the candidate and later making a call to the candidate to attain the
interview. Secondly, the interview session is conducted between the employees who are selected
and the managers of the organisation (Holsapple, 2013).
On the other hand, in the Harrods it is seen that the recruitment is followed in three steps. Firstly,
the selection of the employees is done through the interview and the selection of their resume.
The first two steps of the organisation are same as the Virgin media. However, in the third step
the organisation after the selection of the employees is made, the organization provides a training
of one month to the employees so that their skills and creativity could be polished. It is with this

To experience a better quality work being processed in the organisation it is required to know the
process to recruit employees that would provide a good outcome for the organisation. Therefore,
proper and appropriate selection of the employee’s would further help the organisation in
retaining their employees. Along with that, the organisation further benefitted with maximise
competitive advantage that helps the organisation in gaining a good status in the market. Along
with that, the organisation further enables to get hold of the possible liability to attain its success
in the market. On the other hand, it is further witnessed that the training process of the
organisation acts as a jackpot for the organisation. It is because; this would further help the
organisation in receiving a good work from the workers of the organisation. Along with that, the
organisation would also be benefited with the skilled and creative employees such that proper
decisions would be easy to take in the job sector (Pierre, 2016).

It is seen that there is a connected relation that exhibits between the motivation o the employees
with the reward that is provided to them. It could be said that the motivation of the employees
would help the organisation in gaining the satisfaction of the employees to work with their fuller
potential in the work sector. Along with that, it would further cause the organisation to carry out
their effective working in an appropriate manner thereby benefitting the organisation to gain
their growth opportunity for the future (Hoque, 2013).
It is believed that if the Maslow’s motivational theory is taken into consideration by the
respected organisation then the organisation would be successful in providing its employees with
their self actualization to work in a effective manner. There are several basic needs that the
organisation needs to fulfill to let the employees get the satisfaction; the employees could be
satisfied with the work environment in the organisation. Along with that, the safety needs being
maintained in the organisation for the employees would help the organisation in building the
good relation with the employees (Dries, 2013).

3.2 Evaluating the process of job evaluation and other factors determining pay at Virgin
Media
Thus, it could be said that the employee motivation is a key root to retain the employees.
Therefore, it causes the firm to make a successful build in the business in order to maintain a
good status in the market. The good status of the organisation would cause the organisation to
upgrade the brand value and exhibit more and more customers to purchase the services and the
products that are provided by the respected organisation. It is further witnessed that there is a
connected relation that exhibits between the payment that is made by the organisation and the
performance of the employee’s in the organisation. It is seen that in the organisation virgin
media the ranking method is used where the ranking of the employees are done according to their
job post. It is based on the post of the jobs the payment is made in the organisation to their

fully satisfied with the work environment and the pay role that they receive from the
organisation. It further helps the employees to work in a potential manner and thereby
performing the effective work in the organisation. This, further promotes the motivation of the
employees in the organisation to work in an effective manner and help the organisation to reach
its goal easily. Therefore, the motivation could further be established in the organisation if the
organisation provides rewards to the employees such that their confidence for work would
further be accelerated. It is with the proper motivation being provided to the employees in the
organisation would help the organisation to obtain the quality work from the workers working in

The methods that are followed by the organisation in monitoring the performances of the

4.1 Identifying the reasons for termination of Faisal’s employment contract with The
Chicken Master and generally explaining the other reasons for cessation of employment.
It is witnessed from the case study that Faisal was terminated from employment due to the
violation of the company policy. Not only that, the performance of the respected person was also
not up to the mark. As the owner of the organisation encountered that, the employee was
performing unethically in the organisation. Moreover, he nor he did not do the cleabning
properly would properly supervise the workers who would work in the company. Even after
having an experience of 15 years, the employee was not working at the norms of the
organisation. He would rather waste his time helping his wife and daughter with the work and
would frame his own restaurant plan. On the other hand, even after providing training to the
employee there was no improvement shown by him. These factors caused the owner of the
organisation to terminate Faisal from his employment (Hoque, 2013).
4.2 Describing the employment exit procedures used by The Chicken Master and another
organisation of your choice
Every organisation exhibits certain rules and regulations that are to be followed by the
employees. Therefore, even the organisation namely Chicken Master had certain rules and
regulation. It was made clear to the employees of the organisation that if the rules are not
followed by the employees then it could cause the employee to be terminated from their job.
Thus, the organisation should have rules and regulation such as no discrimination being followed
in the organisation, there would be equal pay for both men and women, and the rights of the
employees would be permitted to them. Along with that, the violation of the company norms and
the culture would caused the organisation to take steps against that employee (Schaufeli and
Taris, 2014).

4.3 Consider the impact of the legal and regulatory framework on employment cessation
arrangements with an organisation such as The Chicken Master if Faisal’s claim was
proven true.
The regulatory framework plays the major role in letting the business organisation gains its
capability to attain the ladder of success in the market. There are certain ethical consideration
that is followed by the organisations such as the following of the labour act, the discrimination
act and salary act. Therefore, if Faisal was proven true then the organisation would be
answerable to the law and it would have to go through the legal procedure. It is because Faisal
had claimed the complain that it was his age that caused him to get sacked from the company
(Hoque, 2013).

Employee retention is one of the major factors that help the organisation in bringing up the status
and making a good success in the business. It is because; it is with the help of the employees

would help the organisation in motivating the employees in a correct manner. It is with the
proper motivation being provided to the employees in the organisation would help the
organisation to obtain the quality work from the workers working in the organisation. Along with
that, the assignment further accounts for the detailed description of the need for the employee
motivation in the organisation. Thus, to experience a better quality work being processed in the
organisation it is required to know the process to recruit employees that would provide a good
