INTRODUCTION
Management is the process by which organisations and their employees put their efforts
together in order to achieve the common goal. That are several activities and operations that
takes place in the organisation, in order to co-ordinate and manage that activities is management.
There are four key function of management that are planning, directing, controlling and
organising. These four function of management goes together. First organisation will plan their
activities, then they organise all the resources and allot roles and responsibilities, then managers
and leaders guide the employees and then finally actual performance is compared with standard
one in order to find the effectiveness of the planning. For this report PureGym have been taken.
The report is going to include the brief introduction about the organisation, its structure, modern
management approach and innovative strategic management objectives.
Task 1 Introduction about the organisation
PureGym Limited is a chain of no frill's fitness clubs in the United Kingdom. The
organisation have their gym in all over the world. It is the British largest gym where about more
than 450000 members have been registered. The venture have now putting large efforts to open
300 more gyms by the year 2020. In the year 2015, they have acquired the largest competitors
of the UK which is around 141 companies. In 2017, the organisation is having 172 gyms in the
UK. The biggest facilities which the organisation is serving is their gyms are opened in 24 hours
in a day. Other than that their gym have several weight losing and lifting machines. Their gym
also serve several other facilities such as r cardio equipment, fixed and free weights, and exercise
classes (Jing and Avery, 2011). The gym is linked with the real-time TV where security staff and
emergency services are monitoring on continuous basis.
PureGym is privately owned by CCMP Capital and other investors, in the year 2014, it
has been founded that the organisation was very close to acquire their biggest rival that is LA
fitness for around £60 million to £80 million. Other than that it is very low cost gym which is
being offered by the every individual in the UK and all over the world. With the venture serve
other promotional services such as there is 20% discounts for the student membership. The
reason behind giving this discount is that, gym is being mostly joined by the youngster say

Task 2 Organisational structure of the company.
Structure is very significant part of the organisation, on the basis of structure, roles and
responsibilities of the employees is being decided. If the venture is using the centralised say tall
organisation structure, then responsibilities and authorities is being less delegated whereas when
the organisation is using decentralised say flat structure that every individual have their
responsibilities and authorities, when it comes to the PureGym, the venture is using the Flat
organisation structure.
The venture is using the Flat organisation structure where top level management delegate
authorities and responsibilities to the middle and lower level management of the venture. It is
effective organisation structure as compare to the tall one. This structure serves several benefits
to the company. Such as when it is concerned about the firm perspective then it helps them to
take all the decision on time (Casolino and G.M. 2012). There is no delay in decision making
because all have their own right and responsibilities. Other than that employees of the

organisation feel that they are also key part of the business, this is because an authority have
been given to them. They moral will increase and they will able to work in more effective and
efficient manner. With that the burden on the top level management reduces. When all the
decision are taken by the top level management then they have lots of roles and responsibilities.
This creates frustration in higher authorities. Thus, the venture is using the tall organisation, then
roles and responsibilities are delegated than burden on top level management reduces.
Task 3 Modern management approach that could be used in the company.
There are three basic modern management approached that are situational, contingent or
systems. When it comes to the system management approach then it is the way where all the
activities and operation are inter-connected with each other in a particular system. It is the way
by which input have been processed by the organisation in order to produce the goods and
services to the customers. On the other hand contingency management approach is the way by
which all the problems of the venture is being solved. Managerial action depends on the
particular situation. One of the best modern management approach for the PureGym is as
follows:
Systems Approach to management: The basic assumption of this theory is that all the
activities and operations are being visualised in the system. A system is set of all the inter-
connected activities that are operated by the employees in order to achieve the common goal of
the organisation. There are four parts that are included in the system that are Input,
transformation process, output and Feedback.
Input: Input are the several resources that are required by the organisation in order to
process it into the finished goods. The resources may includes, man, material, equipment,
machinery, inventory, fund, information etc.
Transformation process: It is the way by which the raw material is process in the
machinery of other tool so that organisation can able to produce finished goods and
services (Ba and Nault, 2016). This process includes managerial and technological
abilities such as Planning, organising, directing, leading, technology, controlling etc.
Output: It is the final result of input and process which is being catered to the customers
so that their needs and wants can be satisfied. It includes product and services, employee
growth, development and satisfaction, profit and loss etc.

Feedback: It is the information which is taken by the end user of final goods and
services. This information is taken so that organisation can able to find that end users are
fully satisfies with the venture.
Task 4 Two innovative strategic management objectives of the company.
It is very important for the organisation to have strategic management, it helps the
venture to gain competitive advantages over the rivals. Other than that these strategies helps the
venture to attract and retain large number of customers. For firm, their old customers and new
one both are important, this is because customers are base for generating profits. Thus, strategic
management objectives are framed by the venture, the objectives are as follows:
Increase in Physical Resources: In the organisation like Gym, venture require proper physical
resources so that customers cab do their exercise in proper manner. Physical resources like gym
machine are very important part of the organisation by which customers are being attracted. This
will help the venture to attract and retain large customers. The key aim of the organisation is to
expand their business by opening 300 more gyms by 2020 so they will be requiring proper gym
machine where people can come and do exercise. Other than that space also plays very
significant part in the gym, the outlet should have proper space so that customer can fell
comfortable while doing the exercise.
Innovation in their business: It is significant part of every organisation, innovation helps the
venture to have creative ideas to cater the needs and wants of the customers. Other than that it
helps the company to stay ahead in the competition place (Antonakis and House 2013). Research
and developing department are the key part of the organisation which create innovation in the
product and services in the organisation. As this the services based industry the venture need to
be innovative in providing their services. With that the company can pay dividends by entering a
new and unique product or service into the marketplace. It is being founded that innovation is the
key to success and competitive advantage. As the venture want to be the number one Gym chain
in the UK. They need to keep innovation in their brand to be the number one. Other than that
innovation in their business environment is also needed so that employees can able to train their
customers in effective manner. If the venture is catering the needs and wants of the customers in
innovative way, it is for sure that they can able to be the leading organisation in the Gym chain
in UK.
