Executive Summary
Frank Piechowski, is the plant manager in the company to whom the instructions is given by the
vice president to appoint forty more impermanent workers. As in this case Frank is handling the
ethical dilemmas of the Somali workers so that work will be done smoothly. In this report it is
discussed that the Frank is the manager of middle level as he is receiving instructions from the
person who is at the top level in the organization that is vice president. In this the components of
the external environment is also examine to know the impact of elements in the company. The
elements are cultural, competitive, legal environment and stakeholders. In this report the
planning and organizing function is suggested to the company so that the company will operate
in effective and efficient manner. The recommendations is also provided to the company that is it
can make the performance standards, Maintaining records and also makes the groups of workers
for the prayers.

Introduction
Frank Piechowski is working as the plant manager in the company. He has taken the command
from the vice president to appoint forty new impermanent workers. Frank previously recognizes
from the past knowledge that the largest part of the new recruiter will be Muslim Somali
immigrant. The company appoints impermanent workers so that they can continue to exist in
extremely high competitive market. As to carry on in the highly competitive market they have to
maintain the lower production cost. Therefore Frank is troubled that the Muslim belief of these
Somali workers may be considered hard to have a smooth flow in the work. The purpose of this
report is to examine the external elements which impacted the company of the Frank Piechowski.
So that it can find out the achievement or breakdown of the company. The elements which have
affect the company as in what ways and to refer the two management functions so that the
company can operate effectively or efficiently. The plan of the report is to give the introduction
about the issue in the case study, to discuss and examine the case study by analyzing external
elements of the company. At last to provide the conclusion and recommendations based on the
analysis.

As per the case the Frank Piechowsk would be the manager of the middle level because he is
working as the plant manager in the company. As all the plant managers are on the middle level
in the organization. As in this case Frank had taken the commands from the leader which is in
the top hierarchy of the organizational chart. He is taking the instructions which he has to
perform it means he is doing the work which is formulated by the top level manager that is vice
president in this case. As the middle level managers is in the between of the organizational
hierarchy. The manager which is on the middle level is directly answerable to the managers
which are on the top level and gives duties or supervision to the managers who are in the lower
hierarchy (Daft, 2015). In this case Frank is also answerable for the work given by the vice
president to appoint forty more impermanent workers. As being a plant manager he has to
manage all plant operations every day and formulate the strategies that will increase the
efficiency, quality and security of the company (Ingley & Lockhartv, 2015). As in this case

The External environment consists of all the elements which are outside the organization but
affects the functioning of the business. The business has to take action or respond to maintain
flow of operations (Machado & Davim, 2016). It can be of two types that is micro environment
and macro environment. As micro environment deals with the elements that have direct effect to
the company. They are competitors, stakeholders, suppliers, customers and channel of
distribution (Durai, 2015). The macro environment deals with the factors which are
uncontrollable for the company. As the company finds it difficult to control and it can only leads
to success when the company is capable to adjust with the changes. The macro environment
factors are economic, social, technological, legal environment (Argenti, 2018).
As in this case there are the elements which are outside the business and have impacted the
company. Which may leads to the achievement or breakdown of the company they are:-
Competitive environment- It is considered the variable external environment under which the
business operates. The competition will be higher, if the sellers are more of the related products.
If the consumers found the similar product but of lower price he will definitely buy that product.
As in this case there is more of competition in the market place in which the whole thing is based
on keeping the price of the products low. As in this case the company manufactures the
appliance and needs to exist in a highly competitive industry. The companies are opposing
mainly on the cost of the product. So the more pressure is to keep the production cost lower. For
this Frank is focusing on increasing the impermanent employees.
Stakeholders- It is considered the party which has interest in an enterprise and can affect the
organization. These are the workers, owners of the company (Opoku & Ahmed, 2015). The
stakeholder is the member of groups which is the support system of the organization as without it
the organization would dismiss (Eskerod & Huemann, 2016). As the Frank, Plant manager is
satisfied to a certain extent with the Somali group. They are few in number and are hardworking,

manager said that they can do take 15 min in a day for their five times prayers which leads about
an hour of declining in the productivity.
Legal environment- It is considered most difficult external factor which affects the company.
There are state rules, laws that every company has to follow in order to continue in the business
(Borland, Lindgreen, Maon, Ambrosini, Palacios, & Vanhamme, 2018). As according to the title
VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964 the owners of the company has to make the rational
arrangements for his workers religious practices (Dray, 2017). As in this case frank makes the
necessary arrangements for the workers so that workers feel satisfied. It leads positive impact to
the company.

Planning is considered as the process of the organization which helps in determining the
objectives of the organization. It is the foremost activity which needs to be done so that the
company must know what, when, how, where the things to be done to achieve the goals and
objectives efficiently (Shinde, 2018). As in this case the problem of the company is to survive in
the highly competitive market by keeping the production cost low. As Frank believes that it can
achieve when impermanent workers are recruited. Frank Piechowski has to follow the planning
process to make the plans regarding redesign of the products, decrease the components cost of
the product which helps in lowering the production cost. It can also make the standards for the
performance so that the employees will work efficiently according to the pre determined

relationship. It helps in stability of work, establishing working relationship and scheduled the
work which leads smooth and effective workflow.
