Introduction
Before an individual applies for a particular job in a specific company or an institution,
there is a need of the person to research the location of that industry, what the industry does and
he or she has to find out the motto that drives the workers of that particular industry. (Acemoglu
& Restrepo, 2018). Research on a specific institution is vital since during an interview an
individual will be asked a lot of question concerning that particular institution as described in the
British Columbia Labour Market Outlook the 2018 edition. Also in this work different emerging
themes will be discussed and ways by which an individual will respond to the themes in the
development of a personal approach to job search. The themes to be addressed include
Automation of work, demand for skills and competencies and meaning of work.
Automation of work
New technology creeping into the current market has brought a lot of changes to the
personal and professional lives of different people for decades. Also, the latest technology has
the potential to make the life of people to be more comfortable and increase the efficiency of a
country’s economy. Automation is the application of technology to replace or even to boost work
which is usually done by human beings. (Nedelkoska & Quintini, 2018). Automation of work
has made manual work appear so effortless. Online banking, smartphones and self-serve kiosk
have become part of people’s life; people can do their transaction without visiting the bank. On
the other hand, automation of work comes with an underlying fear that machines can replace
human beings and hence leading to unemployment: a lot of people will lose their jobs due to the
automation of work. Also, it leads to an increase in the productivity of workers since individuals
