INTRODUCTION
Management can be defined as a system which is related to coordination in the
organisation and establishing the function in an appropriate manner so that the resources can be
used in accordance with the goals and objectives of the firm. In context of current business
scenario management and operation include different activities such as planning decision making
controlling and coordinates in order to achieve the business objectives (Benzaid and Taleb,
2020). In context of the current report, it is identified that management is the part of organisation
which help in utilisation of resources and performing the function according to the requirements.
Relation to the report it is based on the case study of Uber. Uber is an application based
transportation network which provides taxi services and rental cars to the customers. It is an
American company which offer cab facility food delivery and various other businesses in order
to provide facilities to the customers (Blanding, 2020). The report consist discussion about the
role of leader and manager within the organisation as well as the role of leader of manager which
is applied to different situation according to the theories of leadership and approaches. There is
also a discussion about operation which are required to be performed in order to bring quality
services within the organisation. Along with this there is discussion about various operation in
management and factor affecting the business environment in context of operation management
and decision making.

P1 Characteristics and roles of manager and leader
Operation can be defined as a function within the organisation which is related to using
the business practices in accordance with the organisational needs. It help the management in
achieving the goals and objectives as well as utilising the resources in an efficient manner so that
organisation can maintain productivity level as well as increased profitability within the market
according to its status. In context of this manager and leader within the organisation play
important roles in for achieving the objectives in an efficient manner. Some of these roles and
responsibilities played by manager and leader within the organisation are discussed below.
Manager: a manager can be defined as a person within the organisation who is responsible for
controlling and administrative different functions as well as performing this function in
accordance with the organisational goals. In context of the current scenario of over the

management team within the organisation use to plan the strategies in order to achieve the goals
as well as mark the strategies according to the requirements. A manager is a person who exercise
different function as in order to achieve the objectives as well as help in managing responsible
environment according to the requirements (Budd and Ison, 2020).
Leader: a leader is a person within the organisation which helps in motivating the
employees as well as providing a vision in accordance with the organisational objectives. It can
influence the other employees and their activity by maximizing their efforts in order to achieve
the goals and objectives. In context of the current business environment of Uber leader play
important role within the organisation by performing different functions roles and characteristics
which are discussed below:
Roles of leader:
Leader play important role within the organisation in order to set the objectives as well as
motivating the employees so that organisation can achieve its goals and objectives and perform
the function in an effective way. In context of over the leader within the organisation plays an
important role which is mentioned underneath:
Innovative vision: prime role which is played by the leader within the organisation where it
guides different individuals toward the innovative vision. This is because leader are the
innovative person within the organisation where the follow a lead which can bring innovation
within the organisation. In context of leader within Uber they also used to match the innovation
visionary so that they can perform the functions as well as captured the market by improving
organisational performance (Cook and Anderson, 2020).
Provide guidance and training: the organisation used to provide guidance to different
employees in order to make them effective as well as work according to the requirements of
business environment. It is also evaluated that leader are those person who used to provide
training to different individual where they can increase their capacities and perform in an
effective manner. In context of Uber leader try to train employees as well as provide them
guidance so that they can perform the functions according to the requirements.
Characteristics of leader
Charismatic: this is that character of a leader which is related to influence of the leader
within the organisation. Here it is identified that leader has a vision within the firm which help in
creating an appropriate system as well as performing the functions according to the requirements.
