It is true that managers play an essential role in the organisation. Good manager always
discover the five functions of management that is planning, organising, leading, staffing as
well as controlling. The first function that a manager has to adopt is planning. It means
mapping out what an organisation wants to achieve. In this, manager also decides what steps
are required to follow in order to achieve those goals. When the plans made by manager will
be effective, it will become easy for the managers to achieve the better results. After ensuring
the effective planning, managers are also required to organise the members as well as
material according to the plan. It will bring the consistency in the work of organisational
members. In the organisation, granting of authority and assigning the work are two essential
elements. After deciding the area of concern, it is required to decide the staffing by
recruitment, selection and further training and development of employees. Managers in every
organisation also work with the department of human resource in order to accomplish the
goals. There are times when organisations are not able to achieve goals in spite of the
effective working. It is because several times external environment conditions affect the
organisational activities. Manager is also required to lead the team members by planning,
staffing, as well as organising the team for achieving the common goal. For ensuring all these
things in effective manner, a manager is also required to lead the organisation members
toward the common path. Leading therefore involves communicating, motivating, guiding, as
well as encouraging. For these, manager is required to assist, coach as well as solve the
problem with employees. Manager do not always helps in the similar results that are expected
by him. At the end, controlling is the last function of manager. At this stage, manager
regularly check the results against the set goals. If any deviation is found, manager again

recent time, it is quite essential to work on the deviation so that productivity gets increase.
In this way, manager tends to carry out several responsibilities. It means that manager has to

planner, coach, cheerleader, decision maker, and problem solver. Even if a manager is busy,
it always finds out the time to work in varied areas. All managers have the role of leadership.
Under the role of leadership, manager tends to coordinate the work of team members as well
as leads the subordinates. As a leader in the organisation, manager is also required to perform
the function of communication, motivation, encouraging the team spirit. It is also required by
the manager in interacting with some of the other manager besides organisation. This helps in
improving the productivity of the organisation.
Challenges and risks that are attached in the today’s changing organisations
In the recent time, managers have to face the several risks and challenges. The first challenge
is the competition. Due to the competition, complexities as well as uncertainty have
increased. In the recent time, competition has increased to a great extent that requires the
manager to bring such as policies which will help the organisation in effective manner.
Quality and productivity is also one such challenge because companies are required to
compete with the international competitors. There are successful companies who are able to
enhance as well as maintain the quality of goods and services. Due to this, managers are also
required to put emphasis on the enhancement of goods and services. Environment is also
changing at the faster phase. The changing government policies and the Due to this,
organisations are also required to change with the environment in order to satisfy the
customers. Due to this, managers are also required to develop the proper understanding of the
external as well as internal environment. Due to the increasing completion, risks are also

accepted by the society. Due to this, it becomes a challenge for the manager in defining the
relationship with the society. At the same time, organisations that tends to violate the social
expectation have several risks such as loss in the goodwill, legal interference as well as loss
of the business. due to the increasing diversity too, members differ in terms of the caste, race,
nationality and gender. In the recent time, firms are therefore required to employ the people
from diverse social, cultural, economic and ethical background (Johansen, Olsen, Solstad and
Torsteinsen, 2015). At the same time, it becomes a challenge for the manager to employ the
people with competent skills and knowledge. It is also true that diversity offers the
competitive advantage in terms of cost, marketing, resource acquisition, creativity, problem
solving and systems flexibility. It is also one such challenge in front of the manager. It is
because; diversity has also becomes a source of conflict in many organisations. People native
to the organisation may not readily accept to work with people of other cultural backgrounds.
In this way, managers in every organisation go through the several challenges and risks
(Baker, 2012).

Ethics, values and diversity in the organization
Ethics defines the moral principles that govern person behaviour. The organization
implements the ethical theories at the workplace to build a positive environment. Four ethical
theories are followed by companies such as deontology, utilitarianism, rights, and virtues.
This theory defines the different meaning that an organization has to follow or implement at
the workplace to maintain a healthy environment. It is essential for organizations to ensure
that the values and ethics related policies are implementing at the workplace in an appropriate
manner. The ethical and valuable step taken by the organization helps to maintain the brand
image in the market by covering the basic concepts such as honesty, loyalty, integrity, caring,
and professionalism.

environmental and social practices. The company ensures the values and ethics regularly with

theories or approaches at the workplace to manage the employees (Kakabadse & Bank,
2018).
