INTRODUCTION
TOPIC: Equality and diversity in the workplace- A case study on TESCO”.
The term diversity and equality are considered as one of the integral component within an
organisation. However, the aim or purpose of diversity and equality are almost similar i.e.
ensuring that everyone accessing same opportunities and also acquiring fair treatment form the
management. Yet there is a slight differences among these two concept viz. The word diversity
means comprises of different gender, culture, age, religion, language, abilities, race, caste, creed
and etc. with an aim of placing positive value on such differences for accomplishing business
goal or objective without any hindrances and differences among manpower. On the other hand,
the aspect of equality refers to ensuring that each individual at workplace obtain equal
opportunity and are not treated differently or discriminated against their characteristic or
attributes (Araten-Bergman, 2016). Hence, combination of both the term benefit establishment in
an impressive manner as it motive managers to accept and respect every personnel and also
providing equal opportunities at workplace for the enhancement of establishment and also for
individual performance among competing industry. In context of this research, Tesco company
has been considered which is one of the multinational groceries and general merchandise retailer
in UK industry. It is established in the year of 1919 and deliver broad range of commodity like
clothing, electronics, financial services and many more across the world by maintaining best
quality of product or services. In this report, it involves project aim and objectives, developing
project management plan, producing Gantt chart and work breakdown structure. Moreover,
implication of appropriate research methodology and interpreting the collected data by using
relevant tools. Finally, providing suitable recommendation for further improvement and also
providing reflection in which they share their experiences for achieving best result in a given
time duration.

Concept of diversity and equality at workplace.
In the views of Angel Sharma, 2016, In an organisation the term Diversity and equality
plays a important part as it motivate management to generate better relationship among
personnel and also to improver overall productivity of organisation in an amended way (Boehm
and Dwertmann, 2015). Hence, these terms are not similar in nature as it contain its own
features and understanding towards accomplishing company's objective in an effective way.
Additionally, diversity is a combination of race, colour, religion and other traits while equality
means rendering fair treatment and opportunities to every personnel irrespective of religion,
language, caste, culture (Managing diversity and equality in the workplace, 2016). Therefore,
adopting of both the concepts enable organisation to place their brand in a aggressive and
competitory perspective as well as can generate collaborative or extremely cooperative working
condition among employees. With the help of this, firm can attain sustainable growth and
profitability ratio among competitors in an improved manner.
Strategies that can be implied by TESCO to maintain diversity and equality and to attain
competitive advantage.
According to Louise Petty, 2016, For acquiring improved level of profit margin within
current industry, the view of diversity and equality has a significant role as it help organisation.
Along with this, it motivate manager to provide equal opportunity and enormous growth
platforms which lead them to generate healthy relationship among manpower in a better manner.

However, there are various strategies which is related to diversity and equality that act as a
guidance and direction to firm for obtaining profit maximisation in an amended mode.
Additionally, some of the strategies are providing suitable training and development program,
rewarding each manpower in equal manner, giving equal growth platforms and many more
which help organisation to create improved level of collaboration and coordination among team

Therefore, these strategies assist establishment to improve its overall productivity and
profitability ratio in an innovative or creative style.
Challenges face by TESCO to maintain diversity and equality at business premises.
AS per Mark Eltringham, 2016, An establishment undergoes various issues while
handling equality and diversity into their functional unit that directly influence its brand image
and productivity. Apart from this, some of the difficulties are gender equality, employee mental
state in accepting other opinion or ideas, differences in languages and so on. However, it may
create conflicts, disputes, misunderstanding, dissatisfaction, grievances and etc. which decrease
firm's productivity and proficiency ratio (Disabled workers continue to face barriers in the
workplace, 2016). Therefore, taking corrective course of action help administration to enrich its
market share or size in an amended way. Some of the ways are rendering equal opportunity,
recognising the effort of every personnel and many more which enrich overall sales performance

impressive manner. However, it involves various types of components such as cost, risk, size,
scope, budget and so on. Therefore, as per Tesco researcher, they make an effort to produce a
