INTRODUCTION
Talent management is one of the important aspect with regard to every company including M&S.
it will lead to attracting and retaining employees in the organization. Being a wide concept its
main elements include the attraction and retention of employees in the organization. This project
will discuss about the various aspect of research including primary and secondary research.
Likewise, a detailed section of research methodology and data analysis and its interpretation is
also a part of this research.
Organizational Overview:
M&S is one of the famous retailing company of UK. It was founded in 1884. Its
headquarter is in London. It is famous for clothing and food products and other related products
too. Its main mission of to ensure best and quality delivery to every individual and person. It is a
British retailer that bring quality, great value food, clothing, homeware and various other
products among customers across the world.
Overview of research project:
This research project will focus over the concept of best talent management strategies that
can be adopted by M&S in its business operation that could assist the company to grab success.
This research project also covers a detailed project management plan which will outline the
various aspect of project including cost, resources and various others. A detailed explanation
regarding research mythology is also a part of this research which is further supported by
primary research. Lastly, on the basis of observation a detailed conclusion and recommendations
are also presented with respect to topic.
Background:
Talent management is an important aspect with respect to organization. It will enable the
company to make attraction and retention of employees. In order to implement and execute this
concept it is important that adequate strategies in the form of enabling career advancement
opportunities, training and development will be provided so that the employees will retrain in the

and Slana., 2018). Researcher is focusing on lots of talent management activities that could be
helpful in improvement of business. It will provide enough strategies to bring skilful employees
for the organisation to bring skilful employees for the organisation and they will able to take
competitive advantages. The reason behind selection of topic on talent management is to identify

Importance of talent management
According to the Pandita, and Ray (2018) Talent management is one of the most important part
of organisations that is helpful in attracting and retaining employees and also provide
competitive advantages to the organisation. It is not just a key term of human resource
management but it also committed to retain, develop, attract and hire most talented employees
who can help organisations to achieve success in their business. it can be helpful in attracting top
talent, motivate employees, continuously coverage of critical role, improvement in performance
of employees, helpful in employee engagement and also retain the top talent or the organisation
and also improve companies performance as well.
However, talent management is an long term process and it is necessary for the leaders and
managers of the organisation to take decision if they want to implement these strategies or not. it
is necessary for the human resource department to implement these strategies effectively and
they should have a knowledge about talent management so they can use strategies effectively.
Talent management strategies to attract and retain employees
As per the view of Rawashdeh, (2018) There are various strategies that could be used by the
human resource department would react and retain skilful employees and make their workplace
more effective and productive. smart hiring strategies could be adopted by the organisations to
attract and retain employees and it could be to identifying the jobroles, type of work and skills
needed and many more other strategies. involving employees in recruiting can also be effective

showing the best potential hires that they also could be happy at the business.
However, it is necessary for the human resource management team to have a good knowledge of
recruitment and selection strategies so they can attract and retain employees. if they are just
using the simply recruiting without knowing the skills and job role of the particular job. then the
employees will not able to perform and they will be not that effective or productive.
Kravariti and Johnston, (2020) also states that in order to implement TM in organization a focus
over the concept of attracting human resource need to be considered. This means that in order to
attract the best employees for the organization, wider approach in the form of broadening the
scope through social media and digital mode will be used. Likewise, building a positive and
employee’s friendly work culture will lead to have better retention of employees. in the same
way enabling career opportunities, work towards the direction of raising motivation among
employees will also assist the organization to increase their retention ratio and percentage.
Challenges from talent management strategies implementation
According to the Whysall, Owtram, and Brittain, (2019) There are various challenges from the
talent management implementation. One of the biggest challenge is lack of leadership , to have
attractive and Effective implies it is necessary for the organisation to have a effective leaders
otherwise it can be challenges to implement talent management strategies and it can demotivate
the employees. lack of knowledge about talent management strategies could also be lead in
failure of implementation.
Tafti, Mahmoudsalehi and Amiri, (2017) also states that along with these challenges
inexperience with technology, high turnover rate, inadequate hiring strategies are also act and
occur as major challenges with regard to talent management. An existence of these challenges
will outcome as major barrier in the direction of implementing talent management.
However, on a critical note Whysall, Owtram and Brittain, (2019) said that adoption of
corrective actions and best strategies in the form of enabling employee’s devoted work culture
and formulation of policies as per employee’s benefits and betterment will lead to overcoming of
the challenges. Enabling training will also plays an important role in overcoming the challenges.
However, There are some strategies that could be helpful for human resource department to
overcome the challenges from talent management implementation. leaders and managers should

It is an important aspect with regard to project management and research. It includes the essential
aspect with regard to project that are needed to be considered while performing and proceeding
research. It includes the following aspects:

It is an important aspect with regard to the current research in association with talent
management. Allocation of funds in an appropriate manner and its efficient utilization is all
included in this element. It is also important that the project will be accomplished within the
assigned cost. With respect to this research on strategies of talent management strategies an
estimated cost would be £1500.

Like cost time, is again an important aspect with regard to project management. It is important
that the project will be accomplished within the allotted time. Being a crucial aspect it is

overcome by inculcating secondary research so that the cost and the time will be saved. This will
also lead to make this project to be more efficient.

Research philosophy:
It refers to the belief of a researcher towards the conduction and the data collection with
its analysis and use. It is of two types including interpretivism and positivism. As per the
interpretivism philosophy researcher will plays an important role. This means that here
interpretation is made on the basis of belief of perspective of researcher. In this philosophy
researcher indulge itself in the research and make evaluation (Alharahsheh and Pius, 2020).
However, positivism philosophy works on the principle of objectives and events that are being
scientifically observed and experienced (Žukauskas, Vveinhardt and Andriukaitienė, 2018). With
respect to this research interpretivism philosophy is being adopted so that better justification will
be made with regard to qualitative study.
Data collection:
It is a process under which data regarding the research is collected. It is an important
element and part of the research. As there are usually two types of data including primary and
secondary. In this primary data refers to the first hand data. It is the data which is being collected
from the source and is concerned with the most valid and accurate form of data. Secondary data

includes all those information and data which is already being collected by some other researcher
(Johnston, 2017). It is easy to available and contain the real fact and figures. With regard to this
research a combination of both the primary and secondary data is being chosen so that better
outcome with regard to the main aim of the research will be evaluated and found.
Sampling:
It refers to a process in which sample is collected from the population. A sample refers to a
group of people that possess the exact same characteristics which is being present by the entire
population (Wu and et.al., 2017). It is one of the best method of analysis the data. It will save the
time and cost of the researcher. It can be of various types but with regard to this research simple
random sampling is being chosen so that every individual will get an equal chance of selection
and the research will be performed in an adequate manner. A sample of 30 employees of the
M&S are being chosen for the conduction of research.

useful information that could be helpful for them to conduct research and make it successful.
There are some research data analysis methods like thematic analysis, SPSS and many more
other. to make this study successful researcher of this report will use thematic analysis to
interpret the data effectively.

Ethical consideration is the form that is fulfilled by the researcher and other participants.
Researchers fulfilled this form to work in a ethical manner and conducting research processes. on
the other side it is also about if researcher want to participate without having any faults from

From the above data and graph it is analysed that out of a sample of 30 employees,
majority of them including 15 said that they usually adopt every single practice by which they
can bring suitable and most talented employees within the organization. As 7 of them said that
they engage social media, while 5 said that they use campus placement in order to recruit
employees. However, as majority are in favour of using almost all the methods so it would be
interpreted that M&S uses almost all the methods of recruitment in order to recruit the most
desirable talent for the company.

practices are being adopted by the companies in order to have a retention of employees in the
company for a longer period of time. As 14 employees of out of 30, said that they implement
almost every practice including enabling positive work environment, sharing of profits and
benefits and enabling learning opportunities. As retention is one of the important part of the
talent management so it is important that the company should adopt every steps and strategy in
order to retain the talent in the organization (Khandelwal and Shekhawat, 2018). Similarly, in
case of M&S also, every step are being adopted with regard to employees retention in the
organization which is again cleared and justified with the above analysis too.

From the above graph and table, it is being interpreted that M&S usually face major
challenge of raising employees turnover, high compensation payment and lack of leadership with
regard to implementation of talent management in the organization. As from a sample of 30
employees, majoring including 16 employees said that company usually face all the concerned
challenges. However, out of them an equal proportion of 5 employees said that lack of leadership
and raising turnover is a major challenge with regard to the company in terms of implementing
talent management. It is here to be noted that these challenges need to be overcome by the
company in order to have better implementation of concept otherwise company’s image as well
as its working will be greatly affected if its employees will not retain in the organization and if

Recommendation and conclusion based on findings
Recommendations:
From the above research it is being recommended to the M&S that in order to have better
performance of company and achievement of success it is very essential that additional
focus will be lied over the concept of talent management.
It is also recommended that every possible step regarding the restoring of talent
management will be incorporated by the company so that it will grab its objectives.
As the organization is facing challenges regarding the issue of raising of turnover rate, or
demand of higher compensation by the employees. Thus, it is being recommended that
M&S need to adopt and implement the strategies regarding the maintenance and raising
of employee’s satisfaction and motivation so that they should retain in the company and
the concept will be made implemented.
Likewise, it is also recommended, to the company that in order to implement the concept
of talent management it need to more broaden up its recruitment criteria so that it can
appoint the best and most suitable candidate for the organization. This will lead to brining
of talent in the company.
Likewise, it is also being recommended to M&S that like the focus over brining of talent
is essential it also have to more work towards the concept of staff retention so that more
employees will not leave the organization and talent will be restored in the company.
As the company is facing a challenge of raising turnover rate and leadership so it is being
recommended to in order to overcome this challenge, M&S need to adopt every practice
that will lead to raise retention of employees. Thus it is recommended that adoption of the
practice of involvement in decision making, enabling career opportunities, ensuring skill
development, performance appraisal and various other so that the challenges can be meet
and employees will retain in the company. in the same manner in order to raise the
leadership concept adoption of best practice in terms of democratic leadership style will
lead to have better outcome with regard to challenge overcoming.

From the above research it is concluded that TM is the essence of the organization. It is
very essential that every organization including M&S have to adopt every possible step
regarding the incorporation of this concept. This research also raise the understating regarding
the formation and the implementation of project plan by having a consideration regarding the
various aspect including cost, risk, resources and various other. Likewise a detail analysis
regarding the primary and secondary research is also made presented in the report with a better
justification regarding the objective and the concept. Time and cost elements are the major
limitation that is associated with the project but with the adequate inculcation of secondary
analysis and data it is being overcome. Concept of WBS and gantt chart also enable to have an
estimation of time framework with regard to completion of project. This research also clarify the
importance of talent management and its associated techniques by which M&S can bring and
retain talent. Lastly recommendation with regard to challenges are also presented so that better
minimization and overcoming will be executed.
Reflection
While pursuing the research I was able to enhance my various qualities and skills
concerning with the conduction of the research. Likewise, various aspects regarding the research
is also being understood during the project. As talent management is a broad concept so in order
to execute and study about this concept I face various challenges in terms of shortage of time,
cost and various other elements. However, with an inculcation of various concept including a
combination of primary and secondary enable me to overcome the concerned challenge. This is
because an inculcation of secondary research enables me to save my cost and time which is
mitigate and distribute over the primary research. this project also taught me various skills
regarding the time management, communication, analytical and various other skills too. As when
I performed the research I learn that how to complete the task and the work in a given time
period and to how make allocation of required time over the task. Likewise, this research also
taught me communication skill that I would be able to deliver my meaning regarding the concept
in a clear way. As under analytical skill a development regarding analysis of the data is
developed (Permana and et.al., 2019). Likewise, my analytical and interpretation skill also
enhance when I perform the task of data analysis and interpretation because through this I would

develop my analysis skill regarding the data. This research also enables to learn the various
research terms including philosophies, approaches, sampling and many more which could help in
performing my future research project and reports.
Likewise, through this research I would get the chance to raise and upraise my level of
knowledge regarding the analysis and research related with a specific topic. This report
completion also enables to learn regarding the performance of research and the project along
with its presentation in a unique and sequeal manner so that it can be performed and completed
in the best possible manner. In the same manner when I pursue this research I got the physical
and real world exposure regarding the working of the company and the following of the concept
in real sense. As when I make exposure with the M&S then this experience taught me that how
to make real analysis regarding the finding of concerned concept. Overall the methods and the
concepts which could either be the research plan or the methodology or collection and analysis
of data will help me in my future too when I will get a chance to perform the research and such
kind of project. This also means that this project will act as a base and standard for me regarding
my future projects and my research life.
