Globalisation is the process of transferring of products, services, technology, capital,
human resources from one nation to another so as to develop the economic condition. In order to
manage business successful globalisation is the best aspect which every organisation must take
into consideration to achieve competitive advantage at global level. The company which is being
taken into consideration is John Lewis which is one of the UK based company specialised in
product like clothing, watches, gift-wares, furniture’s etc. Additionally, it was founded in 1864
by John Spedan Lewis (Wells, 2014). This assignment explains about the aims, objectives of
project as well as work break down structure and Gantt chart is also being done in this file.
Moreover, data analysis has also being done using questionnaire method as well as
recommendation is also being given at the end of this file.
Positive impact of Globalisation to the businesses in the UK.
1. Economic Impact: Overall development of John Lewis company is termed to be one of
the positive impacts of globalisation. As globalisation is the process of transferring
capital, technology, products, services etc. from developed nation to underdeveloped
nation. Thus, it can be said that globalisation plays an essential role in the overall
economic development to the business in UK.
2. Cultural impact: If the John Lewis company render product and services to different
nation taking into consideration their cultural aspect then it will help company to create
positive cultural impact of globalisation to the business in UK (Ward, 2016). So, it is very
much essential for the company to make a research analysis about the changes taking
place in the culture of the nation in which the company is globalising its business. Thus,
it will help in achieving increase in productivity and sales revenue as well.
3. Ethical Impact: If the John Lewis company will carry out its different operational
activities in an ethical manner as per the rules and laws framed by government then it will
help company in creating positive ethical impact of globalisation to the business in UK.
So it is very much essential for the firm to carry out it business in an ethical manner by
conveying the ethical norms to workforce so that they can also follow the rules while
performing there activities. Thus, it will helps in managing business successfully at a

John Lewis company is the chain of high-end department stores which operate its
business throughout the United Kingdom. Additionally, it is engaged in different types of
products and services like clothing, watches, gift-wares, furniture etc. It is also engaged in
rendering better quality services and products at a global level taking into consideration
customers’ needs and preferences because of which it is termed to be one of the successful
organisations at global level. Moreover, this research is being conducted by this company on a
theme that is to analyse the positive economic, cultural, and ethical impacts of globalisation on
different business functions within an organisation (Wahab, Faruq and Bank, 2012). Thus, the
company is planning to globalise its business so in order to operate its business at international
level company will require support from different functional department which are mentioned
below:
 Operations: It is the department which is concerned with converting the raw materials
into finished products and services as efficiently as possible so as to result in
accomplishing maximum profit of an organisation. Without the help of this department
company cannot achieve a successful growth at global level.
 Marketing: It is the department in John Lewis company which helps in marketing the
product and services of the company to its final customers. Without the help of this
department company cannot increase its sales revenue. As its the marketing manager who
possess knowledge about how the customer can be get influenced towards there services.
 HR: It is the department of John Lewis which perform the major duty is to recruit and
shortlist the best candidate. So successful achievement at global level lies upon HR
department of an organisation
 Accounting: As its the account department who must maintain and keep all the books of
account into a record. So, this department of John Lewis company plays an essential role
as this department will maintain all the record of expenses incurred while operating at
global level.

company must take into consideration as without sufficient
amount of cost company cannot market its product to at
global level (Spender,2014). So as per company point of
view the cost required to accomplish the project is 5500000
pounds, whereas a researcher aspect near about 500000
pounds needs to be incurred while carrying appropriate
research.
Scope Scope of the John Lewis company terms to be wider as it
renders better quality products and services at a global level
as per the preferences of customers (Smith, Gonin and
Besharov, 2013). Whereas scope of researcher is also term

be wider because a researcher needs to carry out its
research by using various tools and techniques which will
help the researcher to gain more knowledge and skills.
Time It is an important aspect which the John lewis company and
researcher must take into consideration while making an
best project plan (Schaper, 2016). As in order to
accomplish the task on time company need to schedule task
into different section so that each task get completed on
time period. So as per company the time required to
complete the project is 2 months, whereas as per researcher
the time required to accomplish the research is 1 month.
Quality This is another important aspect which must be taken into
consideration as customer mainly prefer quality products,
so John Lewis company must produce best quality product
so as to increase satisfaction level of customers (Kaiser and
et. al., 2015). Researcher must adopt qualitative research
method so as to get valuable and accurate data which will
be helpful in driving valid conclusion. Researcher needs to
emphasize on quality of research.
Communication John Lewis company uses different modes of
communication in order to attract large number of
customers like through social media, banners, pamphlets,
Facebook etc. (Hilton and Sohal, 2012). Whereas a
researcher uses online surveys, questionnaire etc. so as to
draw valid conclusion on research topic.
Risk It is an essential aspect which both the company and the
researcher must take into consideration as risk is uncertain
(Gustafson, 2012). So company should make proper

Whereas for researcher risk may arise in the form of
unwillingness of the respondent to fill the questionnaire. So
both the researcher and company must make strategies and
plans taking into consideration risk factor.
Resources John Lewis company must make the best use its resources
like funds, technology, human resources etc. so as to result
in increase in better quality products and services (Duffield

best use of its resources like books, journals, magazines etc.

and make an analysis using thematic interpretation techniques.
Research is the process of systematic investigation of facts and figures about the specific
research topic to draw valid conclusion from it. There are different types of research method and
they are specified below (Du, Leten and Vanhaverbeke, 2014):
Primary research: It is the type of research in which researcher collect and analyse the
data for the first time without the use of any other secondary source. Whereas researcher uses
questionnaire method in order to collect the data from respondent.
Secondary research: In this a researcher uses primary data sources in order to collect
and analyse data. Like through published books, journals, magazines etc.
Qualitative research: This research is being carried out in order to gain an
understanding of underlying opinions, reasons and motivations. Moreover, this type of research
helps the researcher to develop hypothesis and ideas for potential quantitative research. Whereas
researcher takes into consideration primary research method like questionnaire in order to collect
valid information.
Quantitative research: It is termed to be systematic empirical investigation of
observable phenomenon using different mathematical, statistical and computational tools to draw
valid and reliable conclusion.
Data collection
It is a process of collecting and measuring data or any other variables of interest in a
established and standardized manner which enables the researcher to test hypothesis and to
evaluate the result of particular collection. There are different methods of collecting data and
they are mainly, qualitative, quantitative, primary, secondary etc. Thus, the researcher here takes
into consideration qualitative research method which include primary data collecting technique.
As qualitative research method is primary known as exploratory research which helps in
providing insights into the problems as well as helps in developing ideas or hypothesis for the
research topic. Thus, qualitative data collection method used by researcher is questionnaire.
Questionnaire:

It refers to the set of question which is specifically arranged by researcher to get to
known about the viewpoints of respondents. There are two different types of questionnaire and
they are namely, close ended and open-ended questionnaire. Close ended questionnaire refers to
the set of question in which respondent must give their viewpoints by just simply marking tick
mark to the right answer. Whereas open ended questionnaire is those in which the respondent has

Secondary research
Under this research, the researcher gathered secondhand information which were already
collected by some other researcher. It provides less accuracy and reliability of data but consumes
less time and energy to conduct such kind of research. In the present research, secondary data are
collected through collecting views and opinions of different authors on the impact on
globalisation on different business functions. From the secondary data, it has been identified that
mostly of the authors are in favour of positive economic, cultural and ethical impact of
globalisation on different business functions. In the context of economic impact, they state that
growth in economy support globalisation due to having huge spending power of individuals in
expanded nation.

Sampling size: In the present research, 10 respondents has been taken as sample size who
represents the views and opinions of whole population towards the impact of globalisation on
different business functions. These respondents are employees, customers and other
stakeholders.
Analysis and interpretation
In order to analyse and interpret the above questionnaire researcher takes into
consideration thematic interpretation analysis technique. It is a widely used qualitative data
analysis methods of which the main purpose is to identify patterns of meaning across a dataset
which helps in rendering an answer to the research questions that are being addressed.

 Funds are an important aspect which drives John Leis to expand its business at global
level. For this, it must require for the management to maintain sufficient availability of
funds through raising from various sources such as banks, angel investors etc.

 Secondly, it can be recommended that John Lewis company must take into consideration
both the aspects namely customer preferences and competitors’ strategy because both the
aspect plays an important role towards the development of organisation at a global level.
 Third recommendation for John Lewis company is that proper strategic plan and policies
must be implemented taking into consideration the possibility of risk which may take
place in future, like there may arise the issue of shortage of funds. So accordingly,
company should make their strategic plan and policies.
 Fourth recommendation is that company should carry out proper research analysis so as
to known about changes taking place in political, cultural, technological and ethical
factors.
 It is also to be recommended that in order to increase in sales revenue John Lewis
company should focus on rendering appropriate training and development session to the
marketing manager so that he/she become capable of influencing and attracting large
number of customers towards their products and services.
Reflective Undertaking
Gibbs reflective cycle- According to Gibbs, “Reflection can be defined as an important
human activity in which people describe their experiences on a specific topic after feeling or
evaluating it. After this, they provide conclusions and action plans which can prove beneficial for
them in further investigations. Model is defined as under in a reflective manner:
Description- For this Project, I had to come up with a business idea, create a report and
after it I have set some objectives which are defined here such as for understanding the
globalisation concept, determining the impact of globalisation on different functions of
organisation etc. as this topic was new me but I have tried my best for gaining knowledge
regarding it.
Feelings- As I was done my research on time, but I have faced various problems while
conducting the research. Main problems which are faced by me was taking views from
respondents, mismanagement of time and money. But positive aspect which was feel by me is
effective support of my teammates. This positive aspect had motivated me the most for carrying
out the research in timely manner.
Evaluation – As the work pressure is very high and time was less for completing the
research. However, I have divided each task in my teammates as per their capabilities so that all

tasks would be completed in desired manner. These tasks were data collection, data analysis and
its interpretation in understandable manner. For overcoming the above discussed problems, for
taking views from respondents I have bring them into confidence and told them that their any
information wouldn't be leaked and for arranging money I have taken support my family
members and friends.
Conclusion- For collecting relevant data I have preferred primary data collection in
which I have prepared questionnaire so as to gaining actual views from respondents. It supports
me very much in identifying the point of view of different kind of individuals in a single time.
By done all these activities I have achieved my predetermined objectives in a specific time
period.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that globalisation plays an important role in
establishing a successful business at global level. So, in order to achieve successful business
company should first set aims and objectives so as to further implement the task accordingly. In
addition to this it can also be concluded that researcher has taken into consideration qualitative
research method like questionnaire in order to get the point of views of respondents in order to
identify the positive impact of globalisation on different functions of John Lewis company.
