1.0 INTRODUCTION
Managing and leading the people in the organisation means to manage all the resources
and the human capital in the organisation for the fulfilment of the target. And lead and guide
them in a way that they can effectively done their work and efficiently obtain the overall
organisational goal. This report is based on the managing and leading people in an organisation.
This will include the different functions of the mangers. And will also present role of the
managers in hiring the right people for the right job and the different recruitment process for
choosing best candidates for the organisation. Furthermore, this will also include importance of
hiring the right person for the right job.
This course is all about managing and leading the employees in the organisation and how
these managing and leading help the organisation to obtain its overall goal.
What are the main issue that you will be addressing? This report will address the issue
which occur while managing and leading the employees.
2.0 FUNCTIONS OF MANAGERS
There are various functions which is played by the managers in organisation. Manger is
responsible for all the happening in the firms and answerable to the management. There are five
main functions which regulate the different operation in the organisation and helps in fulfilment
of the given purposes of the organisation. These functions are as follow:
2.1 Planning – Planning is the basic and fundamental function of the managers. In which
managers evaluate the goals of the company and set the course of action for the success of the
company and completing the objective (Winston, 2018). In this function manger review the goal
and determine how it will be achieved and for this manager evaluate existing activity and
available resources in the company, then schedule activities which will lead to the
accomplishment of the set target. Planning helps and serve the way to measure the effectiveness
and efficiency of the organisation to complete the target. For example, as the KFC which is one
of the largest fast food chains globally. Manger of KFC develop the effective plans which is cost
effective and also satisfies each n every customer’s need internationally.
2.2 Organising – Another function of the manager is to organise, when plan has been created the
next step is to be organise all the resources and activities in the organisation. This is the process

of bringing together and create relationship among human resource and development, physical
and finance for the achievement of the organisational goal. His organising process involve the
identification of the activities, classification of the group activity, assignment of the duties to the
employees, delegation of authority and create responsibility and then coordinate the authority
and responsibility, to fulfilment the set objective. As the manager of the Tesco main function is
to organise the things in the organisation in a way that they can effectively understand the
responsibilities and organise all the task and goals according to priority to produce more goods to
fulfil the demand of the customers (Yu, Yang and Xia, 2019).
2.3 Staffing – Staffing has the great importance in any organisation to increase the size of the
business. Main purpose of the staffing function is to put right person on the right job. This
include the different recruitment and selection methods, appraisal, manpower planning, training
and development and promotion and transfer. Starbucks biggest global company has main
function is to recruit and manage the staffing in the organisation and mange recruiting right
person for the right job in the organisation. (Noe and et.al., 2017)
2.4 Directing – This is the part of the managerial function which evaluate and monitor all the
activities to work effectively or the achievement of the organisational goal. As planning,
organising and staffing is the preparation of doing work and directing directly deals with
influencing, guiding, supervision and motivating the employees that they can work efficiently to
achieve target. For example, Marks and Spencer's manger direct and guide their employees and
motivate them to work effectively in way to achieve the organisational target (Libby,
Rennekamp and Seybert, 2015).
2.5 Controlling – controlling is the last but not the least function of the managers. It is very
important function played by the mangers. Controlling is to verify whether the activities are
going as according to the set plan or not. This controlling function include, establishment of the
standard performance, measurement of the actual performance then compares the actual and set
standard performance and find if there is any deviation and then correct it, which help to obtain
the set target within the time effectively. For example, Sainsbury’s manager controlling their
staff and their performance and evaluate and monitor their activity and perfection that they can
work efficiently and provide the good cost-effective services by understand the buying behaviour
of the customers (Libby, Rennekamp and Seybert, 2015).
