Executive Summary:
The purpose of this research project is to understand the implementation of cloud computing
within the companies and deal with the challenges that exist within the company at present. The
research mainly deals with the various problems faced by the companies and it also presents the
solutions to these challenges. With the help of this research project, the learners will be able to
understand the different ways and means by which cloud computing can be implemented in a
proper and precise manner within the companies as a whole. It has also the results of the surveys
that have been performed and as a result of this; it presents a clear idea about the various
responses of the people who have participated in the research.

1. Introduction:
1.1 Outlines context:
The purpose of this assignment is to manage the existing challenges with the implementation of
cloud computing. There are many companies that generally face issues in the management of
their business. This assignment focuses on the case study of Tesco and it spheres the various
challenges that are faced by the company. Alongside this, it also outlines the ways and means by
which it helps the company to manage the challenges that are faced by the company by
implementing cloud computing. Some major issues faced by cloud computing are security of
data and its privacy, cyber attacks, quality of service, cost of bandwidth and it performance as
well as its control and governance.
1.2 Background
The companies that usually face challenges with the implementation of cloud computing have
made efforts so that they can easily overcome the challenges. However, it is also known as a
matter of fact that there are still many challenges that are faced by the companies and they are
yet to be solved. With the help of this assignment, the issues faced by the companies will be
discussed and the solution to these issues will also be provided.
1.2.1 Application of Cloud Computing:
In this section, the various applications of cloud computing has been discussed in a detailed
manner. It can be said that cloud computing usually has a very limitless application. With the
help of proper and precise middleware, the functions of a computer can easily be performed by
the accurate usage of cloud computing. It has the capacity to perform almost all the systems
associated with the processing of words upto the customized programs of the computers that are
usually designed for the betterment of a company as a whole. The various applications of cloud
computing has been discussed in a detailed manner below:
With the proper usage of cloud computing, the clients will be easily able to use all their data and
application from wherever they want and at any time. With the help of any interne linked
computer, users can easily get their access to cloud computing. This can be done because the

data is not just limited to any single computer or within a company’s personal network (Botta et
al., 2016).
With the application of cloud computing, the cost of using hardware can be easily brought down
to a great extent. With the help of this, the requirement of hardware would also go down on
behalf of the clients. As a result of this, there will no longer be any need to buy a computer that
is considerably fast or should possess the maximum memory, because with the help of cloud
computing these demands of the clients can be easily resolved. Rather the client can buy a cheap
terminal of computer and can use it to fulfill their requirements. As a result of this, the client will
not require any large sized device to use cloud computing (Bera et al., 2015).
There are many companies that use computers in order to conduct the operations of their
business and as a result of this; they need to ensure that they have equipped system in their
companies for meeting their requirements. With the help of cloud computing, the companies can
get access to the computer systems easily. The companies will not have to buy individual license
of the employees instead they can pay a legitimate sum of money to the company of cloud
computing (Ahmed et al., 2015).
In many cases, digital storage and servers usually take a lot of space. There are many companies
that usually purchase physical space in order to store these servers as they do not have the direct
access to the sites. Therefore, with the help of cloud computing, the companies can have easy
access to these sites and therefore, they will not have the need to purchase any extra physical
space.
1.2.2 Challenges associated with cloud computing:
There are many companies that are taking recourse to cloud computing due to its growing
popularity. The main reason as to why people are beginning to use cloud computing is because it
can give easy access to the companies in order to get to its information and data, without much
expenses. However, besides the positivity of cloud computing, there are various issues that exist
within the usage of cloud computing. Some of these issues have been discussed in a detailed
manner below:
 Privacy and Security of Data:

Security of data and privacy is considered to be one of the most important issues that are related
to cloud computing. There is a cloud service provider that is used in the cloud computing system
and with the help of this, the privacy and security of the user is transferred to the cloud vendor.
Therefore, there is a huge amount of risk associated with this because the user’s information and
personal data can be easily misused by the third party. Therefore, the users have to be really
careful while they are using cloud computing and sharing their personal information (Avram,
2014).
 Cyber Attacks:
The service providers of cloud computing has to deal with another major issue that is directly
related to cyber attacks. Most of the data that is stored in the cloud computing server is often
stored with a major fear of being misused and as a result it might result to cyber attack. The size
of the stored data is said to be highly vulnerable and if in case there is cyber attack; the entire
data might be lost. These attacks have increased in recent times with the help of bot malware,
virtual machines and various attacks made by brute forces. Therefore, it is of utmost importance
that the service providers should have a thorough inspection so that the security level in the cloud
computing server can be determined. Despite the strict investigation of the security measures,
attacks on cloud computing servers still have a fair enough chance (Sadiku et al., 2014).
 Quality of service:
It is known as a matter of fact that the quality of services can also be an issue as to why most of
the companies do not shift their data and information into the cloud computing server. There is
no guarantee that the data of the company will be protected and this is major reason as to why
most companies are afraid of using it (Ali et al., 2015).
1.2.3 Overcoming the challenges:
 Developing a secure strategy of cloud computing:
The service providers of cloud computing should ensure that the data or information that is
stored in the cloud computing server has to be safe and secure no matter what. Therefore, it is
important for the service providers to make sure that they establish a completely developed
strategy for the benefit of the companies that store their information in the cloud computing

server. If they are able to develop a secure cloud computing network, then the companies will be
able to store their data in the cloud computing network without any risk (Sultan, 2014).
 Choosing the exact workload:
There are many companies that prefer to keep their information in the cloud computing network.
Their ideology is not always based on ‘all or nothing’. Sometimes they have to be precise in the
type of data that they want to transfer to the cloud computing server. They have to be very
careful about the information that they transfer in the cloud computing server. If they are careful
enough, then they will not face any issue related to the security or privacy of the information
transferred.
 Understanding the Provider’s cloud architecture:
It can be said that the cloud computing server has no exact language or industry standards.
Therefore, it is of utmost importance on behalf of the companies to ensure that they have a
thorough inspection about the techniques and architectures of the provider cloud computing
server. They have to trust the service providers and at the same time verify the network so as to
ensure that the stored data are safe and secure when they are being stored in the cloud computing
network (Whaiduzzaman et al., 2014).
 Ensuring the persistence of data:
Nowadays, most of the companies have issues while storing their data due to the growth of the
infrastructure. Therefore, it can be said that the development and invention of cloud computing
network is known as a welcome situation for most of these companies in order to keep their data
and information. However, there are times when the cloud computing network fails to get the
required data or information when it is needed by the company. Therefore, it is the duty of the
companies to ensure that these stored data are mostly persistence so that they can be regained in
times of the company’s need (Bilal et al., 2014).

The main purpose of this assignment is to manage the challenges faced by the company with the
implementation of cloud computing. With the help of this assignment, the learners will be able to
understand the main issues that are faced by the companies with the usage of cloud computing.
The assignment will also help the learners to understand the ways and means by which these
issues can be dealt with or overcome.
1.4 Defines terms and sets limits of the research
There are various terms that have been used in order to successfully conduct the research. Some
of them are cloud computing, challenges in its operations and many more. Cloud computing is a
technology that helps a company to store their valuable data or information so that it can be used
for various future needs. However, there are various challenges that are related to the usage of
cloud computing. There are a lot of security issues as well as privacy issues that may take place
in cloud computing and in some cases they might be lost or can also be misused.
Time limitation: It is a matter of fact that the research had a lot of limitations of time. As a result
of this; there are a lot of things that could not be researched by the researcher. Therefore, the
shortage of time is considered as one of the major limitations that have been faced.
Cost limitation: Cost is also taken into consideration when the research was being conducted. As
a result of cost limitation, the research could not be performed the way it was supposed to be
performed.
Low availability of secondary data: There was lack of secondary data when the research was
being performed. Therefore, the research could not be performed with the help of secondary data
analysis.
1.5 Rationale
There are many companies that have recently faced issues with cloud computing. Therefore, the
topic that has been chosen based on managing issues of a certain company with the
implementation of could compute. There are many companies that have faced some serious
issues with cloud computing. This assignment spheres all the issues that are faced by the
company such as lack of security and privacy, misuse of the stored data and information, cyber

stacks and many more (Fox, 2017). Therefore, with the help of this assignment, the learners will
be able to understand the issues that are related to cloud computing and they will also be able to
analyze its impact on different companies. Alongside this, the learners will also be able to
understand the ways and means by which these issues can be dealt with in a positive manner.
Due to the growth of the issues related to cloud computing, the topic has been chosen for the
research. It also focuses on the ways in which these problems can be resolved so that the
company does not lose any data or information that are being stored in the cloud computing

2. Methodology:
2.1 Research Philosophy
It is known as a matter of fact that the research philosophy mainly deals with the development of
the entire knowledge related to the work. In a more precise manner it can be said that the
research philosophy is generally the belief that is developed in the process of collection of the
data and its analysis. There are many types of research philosophy that are used in general. Some
of them are interpretivism, positivism, pragmatism and realism. The research philosophy that is
used is positivism. It is also known as a matter of fact that the main choices of the research
philosophy are mainly based on various practical implications of the entire research
(Rittinghouse and Ransome, 2016).
Positivism: The main reason as to why this philosophy is used is because it is considered to be
highly structured. It can also gather large samples for the better understanding of the research
project. It is mainly done with the help of quantitative data analysis; however it can be used in a
qualitative way as well. In this type of philosophy, all the facts are ideally analyzed during the
course of the entire research project. The study that is made by the researcher based on
positivism is mainly independent of the entire research work.

2.2 Research Approach
There are mainly two types of research approach. They are deductive research approach and
inductive research approach. With the help of deductive research approach, the researcher can
easily test the validity of all the assumptions that has been made. However, with the help of
inductive research approach, the researcher can easily contribute to the emergence of various
new ideas and theories. With the help of deductive research approach, the set of different
theories and hypothesis can either be taken or rejected based on their validity (Yan et al., 2016).
The research approach that has been selected in this research work is deductive research
approach. It is known as a matter of fact that in most cases in a deductive research approach if in
case the premises are true, then it should be kept in mind that the conclusions are also true. With
the help of data collection, the researcher is able to evaluate various propositions. With the help
of deductive research approach, the researcher is able to make falsification of the theory as well
as its verifications.
2.3 Research Design
In most of the cases, research design is said to be selection that is made by the researcher based
on the qualitative and quantitative design that is considered to be most suited for the course of
the entire research. However, it can be said that research design is mainly divided into two major
segments. They are exploratory as well as conclusive. The research design that has been selected
in this research work is exploratory research design. With the help of exploratory research, the
researcher is able to explore various areas of the entire research that is being done. The research
design is mainly open ended and moreover it does not help the researcher with any conclusive
evidence of the research that is being done. By following the exploratory research design, the
researcher can also change the course of their entire research work. Therefore with the help of
research design, the researcher will be able to carry out the research in a successful manner (Wu
et al., 2015).

2.4 Data Collection Method
Data collection method is set of activity, which allows a researcher in getting the desired
information from the various resource of the study. This set of activity involves various stages
that allow the researcher in gathering the required information. This data collection method is
mainly of two different types and they are:
Primary: In this data collection method the source of information are the most proximate to the
study topic, which allows the researcher in receiving the best possible information to accomplish
the research. This data collection method involves two different data collection technique and
they are discussed below:
 Qualitative data collection technique: In this data collection technique the sources are
communicated either face-to-face or over various digital platform in order to receive the desired
information. This technique is executed by conducting surveys among the chosen sample of
respondents. This allows the researcher in getting perceptions from various angles, which help
the research in being developed in a unique manner. This technique of data collection in
unbiased and receives information from various level of an organization (Cyr, 2016).
 Quantitative data collection technique: This data collection technique helps the researcher in
receiving the perspective from the viewpoint of a chosen group of people showing that this
technique is biased by as it receives information from the managerial levels, it helps in
maintaining the quality of the research (Ma et al., 2017).
2.5 Sampling Techniques and Size
With the help of sampling; the researcher is able to select a specific amount of people from the
common mass that can be included in the entire study. In most of the cases it is very difficult to
analyze the entire reviews that are obtained after conducting the research. Therefore, the survey
that is conducted is mainly based on the larger response that is provided by the population. In
majority of the cases, the target population is usually large therefore; it becomes evident to
ensure that they go through all the aspects of the survey before coming to the conclusion. There
are mainly two types of sampling techniques. They are probability sampling and non- probability
sampling.

Probability Sampling: In this type of sampling technique, the entire population gets to take part
in the entire survey. This type of sampling technique is ideally every simple and it can be done
easily and in a proper and systematic manner. With the help of probability sampling, the
researcher is able to conduct the survey amongst all the members of the target population.
Non-probability Sampling: In this type of sampling techniques, the entire population is not
allowed to take part in the survey that is conducted. Only a very small number of people is
allowed to take part in the survey and the gathered information are analyzed in a systematic
manner. This sampling technique helps the researcher to conduct interview amongst the higher
authorities of the company.
Survey: The survey that was conducted by the researcher was usually conducted amongst 50
people of the target population. With the help of the response of the people, the researcher is able
to gather all the information about the topic of the research. As a result, he/she can use it for the
development of the research in a systematic manner.
Interview: The interview was conducted by the researcher amongst three managers of the
company and based on their responses the researcher could develop the research work.

To analyze the impact and the satisfy level of employees regarding cloud computing, a survey
and interview has been done. For the survey, 50 employees and for the interview 3 managers
have been chosen as a sample. All are employees of Tesco, UK.

3.2 Qualitative data collection:
For qualitative data collection 3 managers have been interviewed regarding the issue of cloud
computing.
1. Do you think the implementation of cloud computing helps the company in improving
operational efficiency?
Manger 1: “According to me, this is a very effective technology and it is helping the company
in a great way. As if it is a new technology, therefore few departments are facing some initial
issues, but hope it will be solved in sometime”.
Manger 2: “According to me, I completely feel the entire implementation of cloud computing is
a great step taken by the company.”
Manger 3: “according to me, it is a great technology but it may have some negative impact if it
is not monitored or controlled in a proper way.”

2. according to you, how the company would be able to overcome the challenges faced while
using cloud computing?
Manger 1: “According to me, there is not too much to worry as with the help of few more
training sessions, the problems will be resolved.”
Manger 2: “In my opinion, proper guidance and patience will be enough to overcome
challenges. Slowly all the employees too will get accustom with the technique and will prefer
many more techniques like this in future time.”
Manger 3: “According to me, a very close monitoring and proper employees are definitely
needed and at the same time, more training sessions are mandatory to help the employees.”
3. What are the suggestions that you what to provide as recommendation for further
improvement?
Manger 1: “In my view, it is a good technology and for further improvements just proper
monitoring is needed.”
Manger 2: “In my opinion, a great technology it is and there is not much to say about. Still
controlling and safety reasons should be kept in my mind.”
Manger 3: “According to me, a lot of things can be done to improve the technology. This
technology has few risk factors. To avoid those risk factors, proper monitoring, efficient people,
well trained trainer for employees are needed.”

4. Discussion
50 employees and 3 managers of Tesco have been chosen as sample in order to investigate the
implementation of cloud computing. This entire research is all about the implementation of
digital technology and its impact on the company as well as its advantages and disadvantages
faced by the company. In order to conduct the quantitative and qualitative research, employees of
this company have been chosen as sample. For quantitative research here survey method has
been chosen.
4.1 Quantitative analysis:
Q1. Age specification:
Finding and analysis:
On the basis of the data and graph, the age of the respondents have been shown. Among the 50
employees, 50 % were from the age group of 25 to 35, whereas 20 % each were from the age
group of 18 to 24 and 36 to 45. None the less, 10 % employees were from the age group of above
45 year group. It can be stated that, Tesco provide sufficient scope for all the group of
employees. Age is not a barrier for the employees. Company welcomes the new age group as
well as retains the senior age group too. This is a good approach from the company.
Q2. Gender specification:
Finding and analysis
From the above chart, the gender of the correspondents has been shown. Among 50 employees,
60 % were male and 40% were female. In a famous company like Tesco, it is a good ratio. It can
be said that, the company is dominated by male employees in every department. Women are
there but the male candidates are prior.
Q3. Work tenure of employees:
Finding and analysis
On the base of the above chart and data, the work tenure of the employees has been shown.
Among the 50 employees, 40% were working in the company for more than 5 to 10 years. 30%

are working in the company for more than 10 years, 20 % are working for less than a year and
10% are working here for almost 1 to 5 years. From the above percentage, it can be concluded
that, employees are definitely satisfy enough with the authority. For that, once they get accustom
with the company and work, they are not willing to leave it. Company is providing them the
facilities to retain them and at the same time, employees are finding growth. Therefore, they are
happy to stay with this company.
Q4. Advantages of cloud computing:
Finding and analysis
Cloud computing, its uses, implication; challenges are the main reason behind this research.
After surveying, from the above chart and data, advantages of cloud computing has been
described. Its intensive use is the main benefit of this technology. 50 % people agree with this.
Whereas, 20% each believe that, this cloud computing is very easy to access and consume less
time. 10% feels that it is a new innovative process and they love to enjoy this technology. At last,
it can be said that cloud computing is a technology which is now gaining quite a popularity for
its intensive use. Employees of Tesco too agree with it and they are enjoying this technology too.
Q5. Satisfaction level of employees regarding training:
Finding and analysis
With the help of above data and graph, satisfaction level of employees regarded the training has
been shown. After implementing, digital technologies such as cloud computing, the company has
arranged training session for the employees. After research, it is clear that, employees are not
that much satisfied with the training as 30 % were from highly and highly dissatisfied. 10 %
were from the group of neutral and satisfied. Only, 20% were satisfied with the training. It can be
said that, as cloud computing is a new technology. Therefore, a proper training should be
provided by the company. In Tesco, among employees, a lack of dissatisfaction is clearly visible.
With some more training sessions, the company can meet the satisfaction level of the employees.
Q6. Issues faced among employees for cloud computing:

Issues faced by the employees regarding cloud computing has been shown from the graph. After
research, it is evident that, employees in Tesco, have faced some serious issues regarding cloud
computing. Among many problems, 30% people believe that managing cost of cloud computing
is way too high to bear. Whereas 20% each believes that lack of expertise and control are among
the other problems. Except these, 10% each believes security, complexity, and managing of other
cloud services caused problems too. Every technology has its positive and negative impacts and
cloud computing is also not the exception. This technology too has some negatives and
employees of are trying to cope up with it.

With the help of the above data and chart, frequency level of training provided for employees has
been shown. In Tesco, after the implementation of cloud computing, a basic training had been
provided initially by the company. After that, further training was also provided for the
employees. 30% each said training was provided after the interval of 3 months, 3 to 6 months,

Tesco; therefore, it is not possible to provide all the employees at the same time. This can be the
reason behind this training duration tenure.
Q8. Frequency of up gradation for cloud computing
Finding and analysis
With the help of the above chart and data, frequency of up gradation for cloud computing in
Tesco, UK has been shown. Cloud computing is a technology which, is being used by Tesco on a
large scale. After implementing the technology, the company focuses on upgrading of this
system as well. Research shows that, 30% said, frequently the up gradation has been done
whereas, 10% feels the ratio is very frequent.20 % were from neutral group. Percentage of likely
and not likely is also 20%. Being large company, it is sometimes not possible for a frequent up
gradation for any technology. Same issue is faced by Tesco as well. In order to maintain a good
service, it is a necessary thing to upgrade because up gradation will make the technology much
better. A lack of effort is visible here which is not good for company.

Q9. Acceptance level of employees and their views:
With the help of the above data and chart, employees view has been shown. The entire research
is all about the implementation and challenges faced by cloud computing. Therefore, employees
view is important. After surveying 40 % among them believed this technology will not help the
company in future and completely disagree with its future use. 20% highly disagree too but at the
same time, 10% believes to be in neutral state and 20% agrees it will help the company. In
Tesco, many employees are not satisfied with the technology and reason can be the lack of
training. Therefore, the acceptance level is different among employees

4.2 Qualitative analysis:
According to the Manager 1, there is not much issues regarding this cloud computing and its
implementation in Tesco, UK. After interviewing him, it can be concluded that, the only concern
is the lack of training and with the help of proper and systematic training, the problems among
employees can be solved. Other than that no such big issues are there to worry about.
After interviewing Manager 2, it is evident that nothing to worry regarding the implementation
of this technology as with the help of training and monitoring, it will be easy for the employees
to get accustom with this. Proper training, monitoring and time will solve all the issues. Safety is
the thing that has to be kept in mind. Other than that, soon employees will enjoy this service.
After interviewing Manager 3, it is evident that, the technology cloud computing does have
some risks regarding safety. If it is not monitored in a proper way, it can be harmful. Efficient
people are needed to be there always to manage and handle this in a proper way.

5. Conclusion
The entire research was all about managing the challenges through implementing new
technology such as cloud computing. Tesco, UK has been chosen as a case study and 50
employees, 3 managers were chosen as sample. After conducting the entire research, it can be
concluded that, every technology has its advantages and disadvantages. Cloud computing has
been the focus and it too has some good and bad effects. Cloud computing has been implemented
in Tesco; therefore employees faced some adverse issues regarding this too. Main concern issue
is the managing cost. Except that, employees were concerned about the controlling, monitoring
and safety issues too. A good number of employees believe that cloud computing will not help
the company in the future time and it will not a great step taken by the company. On the other
hand, employees are there who believes that, the intensive use of cloud computing, faster time,
innovative technique will help the company in future time. Lack of training is the other concern
issue for the company. Sufficient training is not provided to the employees and that is why they
are facing a great deal to handle this technology. After interviewing the managers, it can be
stated that, the authority is very much satisfied and happy with this technology. The authority
feels that whatever challenges the employees are facing it will be resolved with the help of
proper training and time.

6. Recommendations:
Based on the entire research, many problems were found regarding cloud computing and after its
implementation in organization. Lastly some recommendations have been suggested to overcome
the challenges faced by the organization after implementing cloud computing.
Proper training is the first thing that needed to be done by the company after implementing any
digital technology. In Tesco, sufficient training was not provided by the company which is not a
good factor for employees and due to this lack of training, employees is suffering now. To
overcome the challenge, company should organize proper training sessions and to help the
employees, a good quality trainer will be needed to hire.
A good communication must be a key because due to lack of communication the company may
not be able to know what the issues are being faced by the employees. A good HR team should
be there to monitor the activities and quarries of employees.
Close monitoring is another solution by which the issues faced by organization can be resolved.
Cloud computing is a new technology and many people are not really know much about this
technology. After implantation of this technology, a close monitoring must be there always to
look after the issues. As soon as the issues will be recognized, the solution will be there too.
Safety is another key factor, which has to be kept in mind. The entire system is all about
regarding a close look and control by trained people. Therefore, well trained people are needed
in the organization to meet the challenges.
