2MANAGING FOR SUSTAINABILITY Week-1 Threats- Deforestation-Deforestation is one major threat for Wesfarmers business and is a cause of climatic condition. Pollution-air pollution is considered biggest environmental health risk. Solid waste is also one more reason for the deaths occurring due to pollution and hence is a major concern for Wesfarmers. Population growth and urbanization-rapid population growth and urbanization has led to scarcity of resources and there are other problems like decrease in air quality, changes in weather conditions, subsequent foodshortage which is a concern of Wesfarmers(Chambers et al., 2019). Water scarcity-Shortage in the level of water is a matter of worry for Wesfarmers as it has led to scarcity of food, less economic development, regional water disputes. Destruction of biodiversity-Overfishing, cutting of trees has led to extinction of plants and animals and there is loss of ecosystem and economy as a whole and hence is a concern for Wesfarmers. Opportunities 1.Developmentslikenon-fossilsnaturalgas,biomasssourceslikesolarenergyare opportunities in creating a sustainable environment. 2. Solar chimney has led to no depletion of natural resources and creation of green electricity which is an opportunity to reduce pollution. 3. Creating green sustainable buildings gives an opportunity for more efficient utilization of non-renewableresources(Chen & Wu, 2019). 4.Encouragementofmoreindoorenvironmentincludingqualityofair,thermal powerprovides satisfaction in physiological aspects and is an opportunity. 5. Creating green building, where one must select material in a way that it consumes less energy on manufactureleads to effective use that it does not affect the environment.

Problems that are related to public can be social, economic or it can be political. Each sector has different sets of problems and issues and those require public policy to solve. Public policy includes legal decisions that aim at achieving rational outcomes. Therefore businesses while dealing with public problems and issues go for developing public policy to solve these issues and problems. But without intervention of government public plans and policy can be effectively implemented to solve the issues, as such these should remain under domainofgovernment.Publicpolicycanberegulatory, redistributiveordistributive depending on the problem. Businesses are created under legal laws of the government thereforeitisimportanttohavegovernmentpolicythatcanbeusedduringany circumstances. 2. In case of developingnations though there are instance of governance deficit in public policy but still these should be kept under domain of government. However, to reduce shortcoming in governance of public policies, government can ensure better quality service delivery and local accountability systems. Supermarkets get advantage with the promotions of junk food in terms of money paid by manufacturers and the increment in sales. The biggest concern is the health issue that the public is facing and it is the tobacco and alcohol consumption. Along with this, fat food and soda created 63 percent obese and overweight in Australia(Kusi-Sarpong & Sarkis, 2019).The two major areas where the companies need to take a call are threat of regulation and negative perceptions of the public. Woolworths came up with healthy lunch box in keeping view about the health issues concerning the public.
