Introduction
In past decades, business and social sectors have evolved on the fairly separate tracks.
However, this boundary has now become more porous, because the organizations have been
increasingly expecting to generate not only financial but also the social value. While over
past century, there is accumulation of large body of the knowledge in management field
regarding the way to maximize one dimension that is profit, however, the questions regarding
how organization can jointly pursue social and financial goals has received less attention.
Although, there are still some of the organizations, who have been long involved in such dual
quest and pursuing social commitments, while engaging in the commercial activities for
generating all or the part of revenue for sustaining their business operations. Further, it is
difficult for the companies for keeping faith with the two equally significant goals. Balancing
social goals with the financial goals has now become need of an hour (Defourny and Nyssens
2017). Hence, this paper aims to discuss that whether it is possible for the public companies
with the distributed ownership to achieve both financial and social goals at same time.
Literature Review
Achieving Financial Goals and Social Goals by Company at the Same time
The primary responsibilities of organizations are articulating financial objectives as
their tangible focus for its business strategy and mission. In the theory, these objectives and
goals are imposed by the shareholders through responses of stock market to the performance
of company. However, the current scenario of business organizations is entirely changed, as
apart from fulfilling their financial objective, they are obliged to focus on their commitments
towards social goals. Some of the largest corporations of world are leading the way with the
significant organizational and financial commitments to the social, economic and
environmental issues. As organizations search for the ways for improving their performance
