Managing Organizations and Leading People 2
Introduction
With the changing times, the defense logistics and supply management are evolving
and incorporating new technologies and strategies to develop an effective management
system. Some of the latest trends which are emerging in the defense logistics and supply
chain management are the increasing utilization of drones, the utilization of warehouse
robotics, and the increasing utilization of the internet of things with sensor integration, which
is popularly known as Enterprise Sensor Integration. All these different trends are being
utilized to enhance the level of accuracy, convenience, and to reduce the cost. Thus, all these
different aspects will have a positive impact, but its efficiency to increase productivity,
standardization and asset visibility is still not explored. Therefore, in this assignment, the
trend of increasing utilization of the internet of things with sensor integration will be
analyzed.
Problem Statement
With the increase in digitalization and the latest inventions in the field of technology,
it is important to identify and examine the different trends which can help in transforming the
defense logistics supply management. Therefore, the main reason behind the selection of the
trend, internet of things with sensor integration is to understand a new system that can help in
better management of the defense logistics supply management. Also, sensor technology is
the future of all the activities, thus, it is important to understand the feasibility of this new
trend. Thus, the problem statement of this study paper is “evaluating the effectiveness and
feasibility of the internet of things sensor integration that is Enterprise Sensor Integration in
the defense logistics supply management (Evans & Steeger, 2018).

Analysis
According to Pat Lubinski, the Enterprise Sensor Integration will help the defense
forces to attain total asset visibility along with reducing the entire cost of the supply chain
(Lubinski, 2018). With the help of data fusion, the Enterprise Sensor Integration will help in
building a strong connection between the information and the various different processes in
the warehouse and factories, to develop a strong supply chain. With the help of “sensor-
agnostic” that is a part of the Enterprise Sensor Integration, the various challenges associated
with the interoperability that is caused due to the proliferation of proprietary of IoT devices
will be easily solved. Along with this, the different tracking devices and solutions, which
forbids the sharing of data with different sensors or even networks, will be solved with the
new Enterprise Sensor Integration. The Enterprise Sensor Integration system will connect and
work with all the data formats and brands of devices and sensors that are a huge part of the
defense logistics. This increase in connectivity to other devices and sensors will help the
defense force to capture a huge amount of data, which will further help in making more
informed and accurate decisions. Therefore, all these different aspects highlight that with the
Enterprise Sensor Integration system will help the defense sector to develop a more
sustainable supply and logistics management system (Haraburda, 2016).
The Enterprise Sensor Integration requires the integration of every supply chain
operations and also the asset management of the organization. But the aspects which are the
biggest cause of concern is that the entire functioning will be based on technology. Thus, if
one aspect fails or a problem erupts in one technology, then the entire logistics and supply
chain will be non-functional, bringing the entire system to a standstill position. During the
times of emergency, for the defense sector, this can turn out to be a massive drawback like in
the times of war (Harper, 2018).

In addition to this, it is a known fact that hacking technology is becoming easier day
by day. The defense sector will ensure that the high standard of security regulations is
followed in the incorporation of the Enterprise Sensor Integration. But with the advancement
in technology, the hackers have developed new alternatives to break-in a system. This
hacking of the logistics and supply chain system will avail the dangerous forces with
confidential information, which can lead to massive disasters (Hazen & Hill, 2017).
Apart from these two main concerns, the other aspect which can affect the defense
sector is the transformation from manual to the technology-oriented system. Thus, every
person associated with the logistics and supply chain will have to undergo training to learn
the application and operation of the new system.
But, with the different drawback, the defense sector will be able to save more than
$50 million in a year with the incorporation of the Enterprise Sensor Integration. With the
help of this technology, the defense logistics and supply chain will be able to save and track
information about more than 200,000 assets, 6,500 work process and orders, and also 30,000
parts (Zeimpekis, Kaimakamis & Daras, 2016). This automated tracking will be very
beneficial for the defense sector as it will increase their efficiency which will directly
increase their productivity. Also, through the Enterprise Sensor Integration, the defense sector
will be able to facilitate a better situational awareness in their different distribution networks
and transportation (Peltz et al., 2015).
Results
Thus, from the complete analysis, this can be formulated that Enterprise Sensor
Integration will be very beneficial for the defense sector in developing a more accurate
logistics and supply management, along with facilitating humongous cost savings. But, the
