RE: an application for Graduate Research Executive position
Dear Personnel Manager,
I am writing to seek for your recently advertised position for a Graduate Research Executive. I am
extremely interested in this opportunity with Ipsos MORI and believe that my education,
qualification and ability would make me the best fit for the role. I am currently pursuing Business
management at Roehampton University and studying in 2nd year. I also believe that knowledge and
education I learned and currently gaining by studying different modules such as accounting and
finance, marketing and sales management, will assist me in carrying my duties with efficacy.
I possess the valid passport and willing to travel for this position. I find myself good in oral and
written communication skills and ability to talk to people and coordinate with them cheerfully and
effectively. Some of my qualities are being hard-working and being the individual on whom you can
rely on. My other qualities include punctuality and enthusiasm to be trained and gain further
qualifications and also willing to work with honesty and trustfulness. I feel responsible and self-
motivated to learn and develop myself to be eligible for Business Manager in near future.
I have an experience in observing and attending people for research and also able to focus on clients
due to my current experience as a Door Supervisor. I am a permanent resident and am unrestricted
to work in the UK. I have earned achieved excellent marks in most disciplines in Iurii Gagarin High
School, Perhik Bulgaria. I own a Level 3 qualification in close protection and also possess valid
Transport of London License. Although I do not possess any concrete experience in this field, I
genuinely want to be the part of your research company as I am confident and assertive to
consistently prove myself. My active interests include exercising and swimming that are briefly
specified in my CV.
Ipsos MORI is the globally recognised organization in market research that provides stimulating as
well as the challenging environment for fresh Graduate researchers. The structured 15-month
programme will help me develop a comprehensive grounding to apply research methods in a
commercial environment. It will be prudent to mention that being the part of this iconic brand, I will
be proactive, encouraged and enthusiastic to use my skills and abilities and also energise my
interests.

footprints. Your team focuses on reducing the environmental impact and contribute to the local
communities. Your campaign in Saudi Arabia supports the prevention and treatment of Breast
Cancer. These activities encouraged me to be the part of this association and shape my future.
2. Tell us about a time you worked in a group to achieve an objective (what did you do
and what was the outcome?)
I was working as a Door supervisor at TSS (Total Security Services) Ltd; we were given the
instructions to maintain the modesty and dignity of the event to be held at the venue. We were total
9-10 individuals in the group who were responsible for maintaining the venue. During the event,
there were some 3-4 individuals who created a disturbance at the entrance as they did not have any
passes to enter the venue. We tried to make them understand that it is against the protocols of
events. They did not hear us. Despite trying to explain them, they created chaos and would pester
the other guests.
We decided to work in a team and asked 3 individuals to stand on the venue entrance and 3 others
to escort the guests safely while 4 of us took them to the office and make them stay there till all the
guests safely entered the venue. Later they understood the situation and went outside calmly. In this
way, we worked in a group to manage the activities at the venue. We were awarded through
recognition by the organisers of the group for promptly and efficiently managing the event and
maintaining the safety and security.
3. Tell us about a time when you identified a new approach to solve a problem. (What
did you do and what was the outcome?)
I work as a Driver at Uber in London, one day I went to receive a guest at the airport. When I met
him I found that he was very hesitant and confused. I started to interact with him normally and
found that he visited London for the first time. After 20 minutes conversation, he said that he is not
able to contact his relative and has an incomplete address. I asked him for the address that he had.
And I assured him to take to his desired destination. Then I navigated the address from that
incomplete information. I found the closest locations after that I called 911 that is the emergency
telephone number and explained to them the situation and also gave them the information
regarding the address.
As I got the address of his relative, I took him to the location. After reaching the location, he met
with his relative and felt comfortable and relaxed. During the entire time, I tried to maintain
continuous communication with him by assuring him to take to their respective address. He was
overwhelmed with the efforts I put to solve the problem and he thanked me for safely taking him to
the respective address.

4. Tell us about a time when you had to manage a number of different priorities and
complete a number of tasks in a short amount of time (what did you do and what was
the outcome?)
In my working as a Door Supervisor, I was responsible for collecting the passes from the guests at
the venue entrance. I had to also confirm the dress code of the Guests and also restrain the
troublemakers and individuals who might be a charge of the prosecution. There were 2 individuals
who were troubling and disturbing the people. As I was checking the people in the queue, I watched
a 7-year-old kid standing alone looking fearful. I immediately asked my colleague to manage the
queue and check the dress code. I asked other 2 colleagues to handle those 2 troublemakers and
went to the kid.
I spoke to the kid and assured to help to meet with his parents. I asked him the name and contact
number if he remembered to which he gave it to me. I called his parents and asked for their current
standing location. Then I took the kid to meet his parents. When we reached to his parents, I
immediately jumped to me his parents. I saw a feeling of relief in both parents and the kid. They
thanked for my proactive actions and my superiors appreciated my actions and critical thinking.
5. Tell us about a project you worked on that required you to persuade others to your
point of view (what did you do and what was the outcome?)
I was selected along with 3 other students in a group to carry out a project by delivering the group
presentation on the introduction of a product into the new market. The project was based to
identify the creativity and critical thinking approach. All the participants researched thoroughly to
select the product and market type. There were a lot of disagreements on the product and market
selection which constrained the communication. I observed that we all did not discuss together
regarding the product and market type to be taken for the project and resulted in a conflicting
situation. Then I interacted with each group member and persuade them to meet together and they
all agreed to meet.
Then we sat together, I again persuade them not to make chaos and express their opinions one by
one to which they agreed. They all expressed their research findings and after this, the most suitable
research finding was selected. We prepared the assignment together in one place by taking the
mutually selected product and market type into consideration. We presented the project in the class
and effectively delivered the group presentation with images and graphics. As the result, we scored
a good grade in that project.

INTERVIEW PRACTICE
I acknowledged both positive and negative aspects during my interview practices. They are:
Positive
I felt confidence in narrating the instances from previous experiences and was very
comfortable in answering the questions. I was able to effectively put my example from my
past experiences thereby demonstrating the good understanding of the questions being
asked (Challenging assumptions- Gibbs, 1988) (Kumar, 2016).
I at first found it difficult to use STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) technique to answer
the question but gradually manage to use it for answering correctly (Bangerter, et al. 2014).
I was able to provide relevant information by using professional language and expressing the
answer structured.
I felt anxiety and nervousness during my interview practice but I managed hid it in front of
interviewers.
Negative
I believe that I felt uncomfortable in maintaining eye-contact with the interviewer.
I also feel that I need to improve my body language as I feel that I was saggy.
I also observed that my voice was not clearly audible in between the practice.
While answering the questions, I lost the concentration and started talking on unrelated
matters.
I felt hostile as I do not have enough experiences to narrate to interviewers.
I got feedback from my colleagues to improve my answer delivery which I took it positively
(Johari Window, 1955) (Khatoon, 2018).

ASSESSMENT CENTRE PRACTICE
I found some of the positive and negative key points while reviewing my assessment centre practices
that were carried out in groups:
Positive
I was contented with the efforts and contributions I had put in the group exercise. I reflected
myself as confident and supportive of others in the team.
I interacted with each member of my team by responding to my views and listening to
others ideas on the team.
I was able to inspire other to undergo in-depth thinking attitude to look for the better
prospect within the stipulated time and budget.
I also found that I maintained a dependable approach and tried to concentrate on every
detail being communicated.
I will let other people speak more in order to ensure the same level of understanding among
the team member on a specific topic in case if I repeat the practices.
Negative
I observed that though some team members actively participated in the activities there was
other.
The team was unable to come to suitable answer they seem to select for easiest decision.
They indicated that I was influencing the team as an individual whereas the teamwork is
crucial to find the speedier answer.
I need to develop an ability to work in a team effectively while focusing on trying not to
subdue other team members in discussion and conversation.
